  1. Hi fellow raiders, I was wondering whether anyone has fished off the rocks at Avoca or Hill 60 receantly. Also what are the crowds like? I am wanting to target some bonnies, salmon and kings. thanks Brian
  2. Top effort mate...maybe I need to tag along one day so you can give me a few pointers
  3. Hi Ray, I have never been prawning before and was wondering when the best time to go is. Is it in a run out tide or run in? Also given the rain the last few days would this affect my chances of bagging some? Cheers Brian
  4. I just got a call from my local tackle store in regards to the servicing of my reel. He said that one of the bearings and gears need to be replaced. He said that the reels works fine and it will still handle fish. The only problem is that it will have a knotch at certain points coz of the gear. He ball parked a fee of approx $70 (depending on the price of the gear) He thinks its worth fixing but I can get the same reel for $99 at another shop. With that in mind it looks like I will be buying a new reel and maybe use the other one as spare parts.
  5. thanks for the info guys. Looks like Im gonna be fishing in the rain. Better remember to pack my raincoat
  6. Hey guys This sounds like a dumb question but how is the fishing in the rain? The reason I ask is because we hired a beach house down south for the weekend and I was planning to get the line wet but the forecast is rain all weekend. Does the beach fishing slow down or stop when it rains or just after it has rained? Cheers Brian
  7. Hi Guys I lent my Penn 760 Slammer to my brother a few months ago and have just received it back. It seems as if the reel has been dunked in salt water because it tends to seize up once in a while and especially under heavier load. Would anyone know if this will be an expensive fix or would I be better off buying a new reel. I thnk new Slammer reels go for $100 or so. If it is worth saving can someone can point me to someone who services reels around the Blacktown NSW area. I would attempt it myself but I have never serviced a reel and don't really have much time to spare (my kids usually take up all my time). thanks
  8. Thanks Finno Hopefully the weather gets better by next week. I just dont want to waste the whole weekend stuck indoors
  9. Hi Michael JB sounds very tempting but I will be taking the kids with me so that kinda crosses out rock fishing. I have heard that some of the locals aroung JB (especially the Tubes) are very territorial and don't like newcombers. I will definitely try to sneek off a quick session on the rocks. I will most likely be doing alot of beach fishing so hopefully I get something to get the kids excited Thanks for tips Brian
  10. Hahaha from the sounds of things my mate might be right. Owning a boat seems to be a lot of hassle with minimal rewards. My mate told me that the 2 best days for a boat owner are 1. when they buy the boat 2. when they sell the boat Maybe I will just look for a tinny to use on fresh water before I commit to a bigger boat with more maintenance. Thanks for the help and advice so far guys

    Buying a boat

Hi guys I was looking at purchasing a boat in the next few weeks. I have never owned a boat before and was wondering what boat will best suit the fishing I want to do. I would love to use the boat to chase king etc and will most likely be fishing around the harbour and down south. Also ate you able to advise me on what I should be looking for and what questions to be asking when buying the boat. Thanks
  12. Hey fellow raiders. I am heading to Culburra next week and was wondering how the fishing is there. I have never fished there and was hoping someone cam give me a few pointers. I will be bringing a my beach/rock gear as well as my light gear. I am hoping to target jewies, bonitos, salmon and kingies. Can anyone give me some pointers on where to fish and what baits works best. Any advice will be great Thanks
  13. Have you considered the Penn Liveliner? It's not a bad reel for the price and it's tough as nails. I have had mine for 2 years now and its still going strong. It's a full metal body and has heaps of drag. If you did want to spend more then definitely go the Shimano B series.
  14. Thanks Leo. I haven't really heard much about the Salt series. I will look into it cheers
  15. Thanks Slinky. I have been looking at the stats for the sealine bull and its pretty impressive. I just haven't come across this reel in my local tackle stores so I will do a bit more research. The reel seems to be reasonably priced. The Daiwa website also notes that it has a 15kg rating. However I did notice that the spool capacity isn't as good as the Saltist. I was hoping to put on 50lb braid on though. Thats why I was looking at the Saltist (which can hold up to 300m of 40-60lb Braid). The Sealine Bull only holds 145m of 40lb Braid thanks
