  1. Been taking friends out that 'virgins' in the kingfish department and molli point has always produced everytime I've been out so I just stick to the point. Tried the drums a couple of times and only managed a couple of rats! Yeah I can't wait till my son is a little bit older so I can show him the joys of fishing. You can always count on Scotty to show u some great grounds, I learned a lot from him when I went out with him last year, so anyone wanting to learn how to fish the bay, definitely book in a session with Scotty. Not too sure who the pink noodle is? Sure you can follow the quintrex 480, give me a holla and i'll definitely try to pass on my limited knowledge on landing kings. I am always in my 'lucky' black shimano cap hehehe
  2. yeah that was me near the corner. We ended up with 8 rats and 1 keeper, started a bit late yesterday, took the wife and mother-in-law out and there was no way they were going to get up at the usual 4am.
  3. Nice one!! Think i might have give the harbour a go! The bay is plauge with rats! And you are right that no line pulling does be come a bit boring now.
  4. AWESOME KING MATE!!! how big she go? went to the Bay today, mostly rats but landed one to 70cm so can't complain.
  5. Great work buddy! I was out there also today, wasn't that fog that came in from the south some eerie stuff!!! You get them all on plastics? I got all mine on yakkas.
  6. Decided to finally take the wife out fishing, and hopefully land some kings and hopefully she can understand why I wake up at 4am to do what we all love doing. She got her mother to tag along as well and she's a pretty keen fisherman, all good as long as I don't hear any nagging Got to the bay at 8:00 and have never seen the car park so full, but luckily the ramp was empty, so got the boat in quickly and headed to the yakka grounds, the wife and mother-in-law had a ball catching yakka's and we had about 10 in no time. Headed straight to molli point and to my amazement it was pretty empty, I wonder where everyone was! quite strange. Anyways, put the livies and down and soon after we were on our first king, came up to 60cm, took some happy snaps and went straight back in, went quiet for a little, but then the second rat was up. Said to the mrs that the next one was her's and she'll have to bring it in, and it was on, handed her the rod and it was the funniest thing, she almost went in the water!!! ahahhaha I was pissing myself laughing!! but eventually it was in the boat to 58cm, went straight back in. Had some fellas behind us yelling 'give me' 'give me' 'give me' was quite annoying! don't they understand the legal size of fish!!! Anyways, took in a couple more rats and we were down to our last yakka, and no keepers yet, prayed that the last one would go legal, so at least I can make the mother in law happy! and I hear zzzzzzzzzzzzz... normally that doesn't happen with the rats, and I knew we were onto something substantial, finally came in to 70cms WOOHHHOOO!!! what luck!!! a shame the batter on the phone went dead so couldn't take a photo. Was contemplating heading back for some more yakkas but it was getting late in the day and we had a feed for tonight, so decided to just head home. A pretty good day, hopefully now the Mrs understands why we do what we do. Attached a pic of the mrs with her first kingie, and boy was she happy!!!
  7. Sorry that was meant to say 22.1.2011. From past experience i seem to get more bites along the wall, but be careful as there is structure below and many anchors have been lost there.
  8. Got to the ramp at 6 and I couldn't believe that I was stuck at the lights turning into the ramp off foreshore road because the line of boats went back that far. But surprisingly got the boat into the water in about 20 mins, straight to yarra bay for some yakkas and for some reason it was a little tough going, think the main reason was because of how high the tide was. I couldn't make out where the kelp started, and realised when I was getting snagged on the kelp with the sabiki that I was too far in. Anyways, I was too lazy to move, ended up with about 10 in about 30 minutes, I then realised I forgot to charge the battery for the bait tank, DOH!!! So ended having to top the tank with water manually. Straight to molli point, anchored up and then I realised I forgot to put the lid on the tank and had lost 4 of my hard earned yakkas, the morning wasn't starting out too well Put down some livies and no more than a minute passed, I am on, from the weight I knew he'd be wayyyy under, got him to the surfaced and could tell he was no more than 50cm, was hoping he could spit the hook to save me the trouble, and he did. Then my cousin is on, this time from the weight and pull, he might go legal, and he does, just! at 66cm, high fives. Boat next to us with a few fellas were also getting hookups, strangely enough, we were the only 2 boats out of about 20 that were landing kings and this went on for about 30 or so minutes, 7 rats were caught and released. Not too sure what other ppl were doing or using??? then it went quiet, and my friend called to pick him up from the ramp at about 9:30am. Pulled anchored and zipped back to the ramp to pick him up, then straight back to get the yakkas, this time I anchored up right on the sweet spot, and in 10 mins, we had about 15 yakkas. Tried the drums first, nothing, then back to Molli point just in time to see my cousin in the other boat pulling up a king, went 68cm, they were quite happy! then the action went hot, they pulled up another 5 in about 10 mins. We'd forgotten to manually change the water in the tank, and within no time, all but 1 yakka was floating in the tank, I was really mad now ARRGGHHH!!! dam battery!!! waste of yakkas, thankfully, my friend loves them fried so they didn't go to waste. So again we headed back to get some more livies, ended up with 6 in about 5 mins, then zipped straight back, anchored up. Got another king to 63, went straight back in. Then my friend using his daughters 2 foot pink rod is on, from the pull, I knew it was a king, told him to take it easy as he only has 6lb line, fought it for about a minute then ping! line snaps, he was quite devasted! I get another king to 58cm, then a bonnie, friend starts pulling up a couple of breams and a few more trevallys. After 12 hours on the water, decided to head back home. Great day! can't wait for the next.
  9. Piers down at the rocks in Sydney Harbour, I use to fish there all the time and have lost a few rods to unattended rods there. I mainly use pilchard cubes down there.
  10. First day out after last Friday's awesome Kingie session in hope for a similar day, took out a couple of friends that have been nagging me for a while. Got out on the water at 6am and headed to our ususal spot for yakka's (Yarra Bay) and I think my 'Spot X' marking from my last post got has had some effect because when we got there, I think I counted around 10 boats all huddled up in that little corner, it brought a little smile on my face. Well in no time we had about 12 livies, unfortunately no squid this time. Headed to the 'parking yard' and anchored up. The southerly was blowing pretty hard, and I think I counted 15 boats. Put down some livies and a squid. One of my friends brought his daughters little 2 foot pink rod, and had half a pichard on it to try for trevally, and his little rod almost goes overboard, he's on, and believe or not, a little rat was on. He had a ball of fun on it, 4lb line, but managed to get it into the boat, his first King, he was rapped!!! we all had a good laugh and it was released. Then it quiet, decided to head to the drums, to see if we could change our luck and I think everyone was thinking the same thing, because the parking lot switched over there in no time. Zero there as well, and thought we'd give Mollie another go, and if nothing, we'd head home. Managed to get another King to 66cm (put back in), then packed up home. Friends had a good time, so that was all that mattered, maybe better luck next weekend.
  11. WOWSERS! that's awesome! If you ever want to mentor anyone Kelvin. I am first in line!
  12. Yep same spot, but it's been really slow of late. Think all the rain has turned them off., hopefully some clear skies for a couple of weeks can clean up the water a liitle.
  13. I was once someone who had no idea how to fish and where to go to get bait, and had heaps of help from friendly raiders, and I just wanted to do the same. Fishing should be enjoyed by everyone and I am more than happy to provide any kind of help to anyone starting out. There are plenty of yakkas down there, so yeah would be great to see everyone down there giving it a go and then chasing some Kings!!
  14. Head down to yarra bay right in the corner. There is a whole heap of kelp down there, you can't miss it if you have a pair of polaroids, you'll be able to spot the kelp. Just anchor up right where the kelp starts and you'll be onto them. I've attached a google map, red X marks the spot. Red X marks the spot. Good Luck, if you see a Quintrex480 Coastrunner around there, let me know and I can show you.
  15. Went out to the bay with my cousin in hope for some kings, 2 times we went out in the past 2 weeks for just 1 rat each session. So we were hoping for some better results today. Got into the water around 6 and headed straight to get some live yakkas, within 15 mins we had about 12 livies in the well and a couple of squid. Headed straight out to Molineax and anchored up with the other 8 or so boats. Nothing for about 30 mins so we decided to downrig and troll for a little, then bang first king on the line and went 55cm, put the little guy back. Trolled some more and we see a couple of boats start landing kings and the sounder had a good showing as well so we decided to anchor up. Threw squid in unweighted and the yakka down the bottom. Then within a minute, the baitrunner on the squid goes off, onto the second, got him in the boat to 60cm, also went back in. Then as soon he goes back in the live yakka starts running, rod bent down the back. I am on and from the fight, I knew this wasn't a rat, got him in the boat in about 10 mins and went 70cm WOOHOO!! first legal king for the year! boy was I happy. We ended up with 10 kings, 2 of them keepers. This all happened betwee 8am to 10am. Now this is the session I've been dreaming of. Makes the early starts definitely worth it, can't wait to head out again. Photos will be posted when my cousin sends them to me from his phone.
