  1. Awesome post mate! Good use of the site to hone your knowledge and put it into action! I've learnt so much from just reading the forums! Good work! You'll land a Jew soon enough
  2. I think Frank means that if there is some smell of bait on the line, then there is a chance that the hairtail will snip the line. I think it's similar with leather jackets?
  3. Hey fellow raiders! With work slowing down over winter I am offering my services as a boat hand available most wed-Friday's and Sunday's. I'll have to let the boss know I'm working from home so 12 hours notice is all I'd need but apart from that I'd be happy to share costs, jokes and a good laugh! I'm 29, live in berowra, happy to drive, have all the gear (unless we chase Marlin, in which case I will almost certainly get busted off) I'm also half Fijian which is good luck when it comes to fishing Lines tight Will
  4. I'd probably look for any newly formed lake openings onto a beach. I think terrigal lagoon would have over flowed into the beach. You could try there? Otherwise upstream could be worth a shot
  5. This makes me so mad!!! I'll be sure to keep my eyes open
  6. I fish a baitrunner 6500 with a snyderglas from the beach however I don't use it for spinning. I use it with either a ganged pillie, whole squid or slab of salmon/mullet. I haven't used it for live bait as yet but I am keen to try. In terms of the reel, I haven't had any problems with it, I have caught soapies with it with no fuss. I really like the feel of the reel also.
  7. I saw a video of some guy fishing from his balcony, on the second story near the Narra I am pretty sure. He actually hooked up a little bream
  8. Do you have a warm couch? Or at least did you enjoy sleeping on it for a week?
  9. A mediocre day fishing will always be better then a great day at work!
  10. Maintenance??? ... I once didn't trim my nose hairs for about a month... But seriously, my maintenance involves washing all my surf gear with fresh water after a trip. Is there something more I'm meant to be doing :S
  11. I don't have kids yet but I can tell you that my grandad would take me out fishing while I was in a pram. He would let me hold a little rod and sit me at the edge of a wharf still in my pram. Sometimes he would just stick the rod in the pram. It's one of my earliest memories. Him jumping up from his seat to grab my pram as a big bream almost dragged me off the wharf.
  12. I'm More amazed at how over 40 years you haven't lost enough line to warrant a re spool... That's amazing... I'm sure people will say that they have a life span but if it's working for you then keep it up I guess
  13. Awesome sesh Tara! I've started organising my workshop with various rod holders made from rubber and reel holders and so on. When I'm walking from the garage to the house, I find myself in the workshop spending a few hours just tying rigs... It's how I get by haha...
  14. Ah.... There is just so many things to consider. I have been reading a lot on it. I think the transporting and storing of it might be a bit tough but it seems that there are often a lot of hidden costs. I think I will first have a trial on some kayaks (I think a bunch of shops let you take them out on the water a bit) and then decide. I also have a shoulder injury from playing footy for 10 years and am not sure how it will handle the cold + long trips I definitely intend on getting one though!
  15. Just asking raiders out there the pros and cons of each assuming the same size reel?
  16. They didn't even dominate... We out played them in almost all aspects of the game. such a poor loss
  17. But then it would really depend on the trip right?
  18. You hear stories of people using frozen pillies and catching so really how fussy can fish be... Although I understand that it's all about increasing the odds of catching haha
  19. I fish most Sunday's, some Saturday nights... I fish everywhere from lakes and wharves to beaches. A lot of these places would be hard to get to without a car I think though
  20. When I was like 15-16 the only thing I would get is mullet from the George's near Liverpool station. I couldn't drive so I could walk down under the bridge. I also didn't have money so I would use a hand line... The rig would be... A little piece of lead at the tag end of the line, 50 cm up would be a hook (not a long shank) then about a meter above would be a float. I would use stale bread and bread crumbs with flour and water and knees it into a dough. I found on over cast days, I would land 40 cm mullet quite often. I haven't been to the same place in about 13 years so not sure if it's still there
  21. This is awesome work... Blackfishing is an art form it would seem
  22. I need to learn how to do this... I need a teacher. Awesome work man
  23. So managed a single flathead in 4-5 hours from hargraves beach. Filleted it. Wrapped it in foil with some garlic lemon and shallots! Oven baked for about 15 mins Had it with sweet potato mash and stir fried veg
