A Southerly change is hitting during the night, that'll make it hard to fish up there in the morning. If you are still keen to wet a line, I'd suggest trying South Cronulla beach with nippers. Always a chance of Whiting and Bream.

Golden Perch and Murry Cod are the 2 main targets. Your best bet would be mid/large divers, spinnerbaits, lipless cranks and maybe some plastics and surface lures. There's plenty of rock walls and reed edges to cast at. Just keep casting and changing lures regularly, you'll soon work out a pattern. Even if you don't find fish, it's a beautiful area to paddle around. Good luck! Cheers, Adam.

I lived out Kurnell was I was younger and I still fish out there from time to time. If you want to fish from the groynes, I'd suggest the one in front of the post office (it's the left hand groyne of the swimming nets) or the next one along towards Captain Cook bridge. I use my dominant hand (right) to cast and manipulate lure movement, and wind with the left hand. My reason for doing it 'correctly' is casting surface lures for Bass. Sometimes a Bass will crash a lure as soon as it lands. The time it takes to change hands and start winding to engage the bail arm, the fish has already got you bricked!!

Hey mate. I have the same rod, and used it for everything you've mentioned. A decent King will give it a good bend, but it'll stop them. (Unless it's an absolute brute....) I use a 4000 Twin power on mine though. A 5000 should be ok, maybe just a little heavier. Hope this helps. Cheers, Adam.

I've heard that also. Warm water does something to the poison to lessen the pain. Gunnamatta flats are notorious for Rays. I wear either waders or an old pair of shoes when I fish there. Most of them are smallish though. I've seen some mammoth Rays up around Grays point, I reckon waders or shoes wouldn't stop those barbs!!

I have both, a solid yak and an inflatable. The inflatable I use for TINY water (very small streams and dams) chasing Bass. It's really handy for walking into these spots through the bush. Now, with that said, I would never recommend getting an inflatable yak for the fishing you want to do. Firstly, as has been said, the chances of putting a hole in it are a real concern. If you want to fish deeper areas, you'll have to swim back to shore, with a fair chance of losing all your gear. The other concern is wind. From the sound of it you'll want to be fishing more open water. Wind is an annoyance even with a solid yak, I could only imagine what a good blow would do to an inflatable!! With a solid yak, if the wind does pick up, you'll have that rigidity to keep you stable. One more thing is storage space. An inflatable doesn't have much. And it would silly to weigh it down with excess gear anyway, just in the event of putting a hole in it. Plus you'll need to carry the pump onboard, just incase of slow leaks. You said you don't have the space to store a solid yak, you could always hire a small shed at one of those storage places..... I'd think really long and hard about your decision on the inflatable, ESPECIALLY because of the water you want to fish. Getting wet, and/or something worse, is a real possibility. My local wading spot! Darook weedbeds can produce some cracking fish with the right conditions. Poppers and 'WTD' lures over the top of the weed get the job done. My Grandfather lived a few houses back from the actual park,with his boat shed on the water, so my introduction into fishing was in this area. Many a day and night was spent chasing Whiting and Bream, or just mucking around in the tinny at high tide on flats. Some of my bigger Bream and Whiting have come on poppers up there. Kilo plus Bream and 40cm plus Whiting was the norm a few seasons back, it seems to have slowed down a bit there though the last few years (maybe the fish are becoming wary of hooks?) The drop offs have produced some decent Flathead and I've caught rat Kings there at times. I havnt been up there for a few months, but reading and writing about it, I'm itching to get back up there!

Howdy folks. How's the Southern beaches fishing at the moment? I went for a Wanda (pun intended!) up the beach just now and got a few pippies, going to have a crack in the morning. The swell was up a bit, but it looks like it's going to drop, and I did find a few decent gutters that will fill nicely at the top of the tide. I have mate. Scored my pb Bass with a weedless rigged frog just a few weeks back.

I use weedless jigheads all the time for Bass. I have no issues at all at hooking up. You just have to be a little patient and not strike too fast when a fish hits your plastic.

I have a Fish Hunter,i wouldnt use it in anything that gets a bit of tide or wind. I use mine in walk-in Bass streams only. As has been said,you'd be better off with a yak mate....

Cant go past a lightly weighted weedless jighead with a curl tail grub.I use pretty much a 'standard' Bream retrieve,but a little slower (cast it into shade,let it sink a bit,couple of twitches,repeat....) If your fishing very weeded stretches of the river,go for a 3 inch minnow,cast it into open pockets but make sure you've got that drag locked!!
