  1. Thanks Luke. Mostly walking them in and out of gear. We do drift over bait schools and drop livies down deep when nescessay too. Do you use 2 different techniques for each situation?
  2. Hi all, Just wondering what techniques people are employing to allow Marlin to take a livebait without feeling any drag. We simply run the line straight from the rod tip with the reel at minimum drag to stop the live bait pulling out any line. However last season we had a fair few half hearted takes which i can only attribute to the Marlin shying away from the drag pressure. This season we are experimenting with release clips attached to the back of the boat and a ~15m belly in the line. In theory, it should give the fish enough time to inhale the bait naturally and the circle hook should find its way into the corner of the mouth. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated as i am relatively new to fishing for Marlin. cheers
  3. Hi all, Excelent Replies regarding drag pressure, however im not sure if it is the best idea to apply massive amounts of drag to fish who are likely to go for reef or any type of structure (unless you have the gear to skull drag it). in my experiences with large Snapper, Jewfish and Kings is to put the reel into freespool when you believe they are aproaching the bottom/ pylon. the more pressure, the more pain for the fish, the more likely to bust you up. freespool until you get some angle on the line and slowly re-apply pressure, this way you tire the fish out rather than freak it out! good luck
  4. Hi all, i have never fished for marlin or tuna before, but have just purchased a boat which will allow me to start targeting a couple of these pelagics. i was just interested to know if anyone could give me some feedback on thier experiences using Skirted lures off the east coast of NSW. my questions are - what is the best brand? What head Type? What size? thanks in advance!
