  1. I've got a 4000 in this reel and highly rate it. \ Very smooth, Drag is slightly stickier if that makes sence in comparison to a sol. I believe the Ci4 has one more bearing? I am unsure about this though. The FI is much heavier and feels solid while the Ci4 has alot more play in everything if that makes sense? Just pull the spool up and down handle back and forth etc. It does not effect the reel at all its just down to the materials. If I understand the dribble from Shimano is a carbon injected fibreglass which from alot of work with cars would put its strength (body wise) in the same mark as steel. So dont under rate it! Shimanos 10 yr warranty is a extra bonus which you cant go past either!
  2. Nice catch mate, very impressive on super light gear!
  3. Aluminium has a great ability being able to not rust. Rare for metal in general. I wouldn't bother polishing it but I mean a sand back would do. Just finish on a 400ish paper. Sadly Aluminium stains very easily and water can even etch the hull. This is why you wouldn't bother polishing it. In regard to the bottom of new boats being bare it could be Anodised which is a process where the hull is electrified in water and a additive is added into the water which it is in. Doubt you'll find a pool big enough though Most tinnies will be bare though. Same material
  4. Hey mate, Im north side and happy to accompany you. Can only do Saturdays and wouldn't mind targeting some kings Landbased from the stones. I've got a few spots in mind and we might even hit up my local places in the harbour. If you are interested let me know. Nathaniel
  5. Holy jezus! Nice work! Maybe the current is pushing these guys through?!
  6. Fantastic capture! Nice work. I'll be more than happy if the kings piss off and we get these in the harbour
  7. Spotted a few rats today, I mean small about 60cm taking my burley trail. Wouldn't touch a 6/0 hook so had to down size leader and hook thickness. Managed a few but they made short work of the light gear. Definitely a slow season!
  8. Hey mate, I recently went though the same thing. I got a couple of options for you. I went with a 20lb rod (its actually a 17lb but yeah recommend a 20lb) and run either a sol 3000 or it for a Shimano Ci4. This will handle big trevs, rat kings and some bigger ones on the surface. Ive also got a Lox 7kg which I use for lighter lures. Both of these rods will take kings but I recommend the 20lb rod. 7 foot - 8foot is good. Ive also got a Spheros (Shimano) in the 8000 size. 15kg of drag and a very nice mid price reel, $200ish. The rod is a 10-15kg Tcurve Offshore. If you need to throw anything in the 30g-100g area including 9inch sluggos, 19cm lures or big poppers this is worth the money. Retails now at about $170. Its a machine and will take anything. This combo brought up a king - landbased on a pier within 60 seconds. The king was 85ish cm. Id put my money into this. It runs 30lb (more than enough) and will cast over 150-200m. Its the 7,6 model from memory (two peice.) The 20lb rod will be fun, the 15kg gear will stop a freight train as long as you can hold onto it. I would also look at the Triajelo(SP?) if you are landbased mostly.
