  1. always wanted to try them.... are they any good? what do you fish there with (setup, baits etc) and what do u catch ? Bombo is alright, but be prepared for snags. High tide is the best time to go but be sure its not too rough or you will get wet
  2. Haha unfortunately this Ross is computer illiterate... but do pass on a cheery hello to "your" Ross from me! Ta
  3. After a massive lay off due to work and other commitments i finally dusted off the gear and ventured out again.. oh what a feeling i was again being guide to a newby to fishing, my mate Ross. We left a little later than planned but after a nice drive and a awesome maccas breakfast we arrived on the rock platform at 8am... He was christening a new rod which he had won in a raffle a few weeks ago... It was quite an interesting experience teaching and explaining the concept of the basic fishing skills most of us can do in our sleep! Anyways i rigged him up gave him a brief casting lesson and set him off, i then rigged up my light stick to chase some bream or trevally all the time while listening to him get excited and calling out happily " I FELT A BITE".. I tried to explain the concept of setting the hook when you felt you were on ( it was the only thing he never mastered) he asked why his rod was much bulkier than mine and i was explaining that i was taking the risk by going for the smaller species and hoped that something bigger wouldnt hit me...sure enough on my 4lb light gear i get absolutely smashed by a nice salmon, after a short fight and a nice aerial leap i hear the dreaded PING and i am left to laugh at my luck... hoping for a repeat performance i beefed up my mainline with a 15lb leader but to no avail, the fish i guess were smarter than me.. We moved around the headland to another spot after continuously being stripped of our baits by annoying pickers... I'd never fished there before so i didnt know what to expect, 1st cast and within seconds i was on to a nice 27cm bream.. whilst i was in the process of setting him free i hear " I GOT ONE!" and Ross has a long tom flapping around on the rocks, both were released and then the snags came... I gave up and we headed to a spot C which was between A and B and within minutes we had some nice bites... I hooked another salmon on my mainline again and fared much better getting him all the way to the rocks but then lost him trying to pull him up to our platform... all i could do was laugh and bear it.. the rest of the session was pretty non eventful, plenty of bites and close calls but not much action... All in all though the weather was absolutely perfect and it set the tone nicely for the weekend, Ross caught the bug and wants to go again soon so we no doubt will have Round 2 in the near future.. And i was just stoked to be able to wet a line again after a lengthy lay off, hopefully i wont have to wait so long for the next trip ... Cheers all and tight lines
  4. Hey guys, dusting off the gear and heading out to Bombo (near Kiama) tomorrow morning, aim to get there around 6:30am and will prob stay there till around lunch (depending on conditions) If anyone is in the area or is keen to tag along i'll be more than happy to have a convoy.. Its off a very safe rock platform, conditions are predicted to be very sweet indeed and i will be targetting salmon, bream, trevally and whatever else is around! PM me for more info cheers, Ian

I can get to anywhere in sydney at any time.. would be most greatful Dont have a great range of gear but have basic necessities PM me if your interested, Cheers. Ian
  6. Mate you're too good to be true, that info is more than helpful. Thanks heaps for your help on that, much appreciated!
  7. Gday Folks, i've been out of action for a long time now for differing reasons but finally have 2 days up my sleeve.... going camping at Norah Head and want to take the fishing gear because it haunts me in the small hours of the night... Is there any good beach/rock fishing options in the general area ? I mainly target bream, trevally, tailor and salmon but wouldnt knock back some nice whiting or flathead if i can get it.... If anyone has some good knowledge on rigs, baits and spots etc i would be most gracious Also prepared to try the lake at Budgewoi if conditons are not suitable.... Thanks guys, Ian
  8. Just got home from my end of season soccer trip away with the boys..... we were at copacabana on the central coast near Avoca, arrived on thursday looking something a bit like this due to the poor weather and impending weekend spoilt by it,but wake up friday and what do u know its clered up nicely... as young guys do we drank all day and night singing and carrying on....enjoying the beach and a bit more ... Having been busy for a very long time the fishing bug got the better of me, so before i left i had hastily packed the rod and a few necessitys just in case... come sat arvo i sussed out the rocky headland doing all the right things like watching prospective platforms from elevated ground for 10 mins etc... eventually settled on 2 spots which were safe..... so i raced back to our house and sobered up completely before going on a sharp 3 hour session in the late arvo/dusk..... when i returned our neighbour was there and i felt much better having someone to talk to and fish safely with.... unfortunately i wasnt well prepared with my tackle as the current wouldnt help me out so my nice new friend lent me a float and we were able to fish away from it by going long and deep... karma kicked in about a minute later when his rod is bending and he is smiling from ear to ear he brought in a solid trev , next cast i brought in his mate and what a ball i had on my light gear... took a quick photo as evidence for my doubtful teammates and then really got stuck into the fishing, we must of released at least 6 trevs each whilst keeping only the first 2 caught, needless to say my photo wasnt necessary as unexpectedly some of the team decided to come have a stickybeak , almost as expected the trevs went off the bite and the guys got bored and went walking further along the headland... when they returned about 45 mins later our fortunes changed once more when a school of sambo's came through and we entertained the boys who had a great laugh watching me struggle on my light bream stick (unfortunately the boys were not willing to do any camera work ) .....we called it a day and the neighbour came over and we cooked our fish on the bbq and had a few beers ..... top feed and top bloke. The next afternoon i went again for the same thing, unfortunately the wind had picked up and the water was very rough .... i was greeted by 2 south african tourists and there 2 very attractive travel companions who were watching them fish ( they looked rather bored ) .... well the fishing was hard and i lucked out , the other guys were consistently catching marine creatures of all kinds due to their heavier gear and i was the unfortunate and luckless guide , they caught 4 trevs, a few eels, some rock garbage and a tailor ...to my big fat bag of NIX...... it was fun to watch their excitement though and their company was good. I bade them farewell as it was too cold and windy for me and im walking back along the rocks quietly loving life to have got a chance to fish when all of a sudden a massive plank of wood and a couple of largish rocks crashed without lie a foot or 2 beside me , they had fallen off the cliff face and i remembered seeing a sign earlier about falling rocks..... Well i can honestly say i absolutely SHAT myself and the 15 min walk back to the beach only took me about 5 ... i could not believe my near miss and still shudder to think they may of been intentionally dumped from a person above ( not aiming for me, just dumping in general) Im using this experience to warn other raiders about this danger and i hope all the rockhoppers excersise great caution whilst out there.... attached is the pic of the 2 trevs which i thought were quite big and fat... Cheers, Ian
