  1. Wazzas done it again. Remember fishing the lake in the late 70s onward it was awesome then, still take the family down to this day. As for the Fortesque got tagged by one I caught fishing for yakkas at Port Kembla thought i would unhook it rather than re rig, regretted that idea for many painful hours. Can also remember Nock and Kirbys also Downes hardware stores bought fishing gear there including a Diawa black and gold reel circa early 80s cost me more than a weeks wages still going strong though it has been retired will never part with it though, Purchased a few rifles at Downes and the local Big W to.
  2. Great work again Wazza. Can relate to the knife story watched a mate try and dispatch one with a knife and to his shock the large occy ripped it out, it was decided that the occy was too tough for us and we let it escape. Pulled a large weight to shore once wondering what I had hooked up, was a large occy clinging to a long neck beer bottle full of mud would not give the bottle up for anyone.
  3. Another top yarn thanks mate. The missus rang me once while away at tweed heads she said you should of come some guy just caught a baby marlin of the beach. She sent me a photo of the biggest long tom ever. I read a story once about a guy who had one stab him in the chest whilst wading in the shallows attracted to his gold necklace apparently. Never caught one myself but have seen plenty.
  4. Ive fished the Nepean for good bass at nearby Maldon, so cant accurately help. In saying that i know what Cataract dam contains including murray cod. I imagine the fishing in the river would be okay. Check the regulations though as to where you fish and good luck.
  5. Thanks Wazza brought back a lot of memories from childhood. Used to make the long trek there with my mates from school over 40 years ago great times. Got the shock of my life one day not to mention cut up hands, landed a great blue groper at the zoo on a handline and humble prawn used to buy them at a shop at circular quay (milk run money). That zoo wharf educated a lot of kids how to fish with the old timers happy to coach us. Mores the pity kids these days miss out on these times for various reasons.
  6. Plenty of monster carp around Camden target them myself they love corn kernels dont forgot to berley. They are good sport up to 1m long so good luck.
  7. Little Flatty's comments spot on. A big shout out to the Swordies, Scratchy and everyone else involved in Fishraider. Its the only Social Media i have or ever will indulge in, all due to the great work and unselfishness of all. Many thanks.
  8. Only option for me would be Bass in the fresh which is my favourite but i leave them alone in closed season.
  9. Thanks for sharing a great report. Awesome photos of a very special place. You have successfully added a to do list location for me. The Togas are very cool indeed well done.

Been in this situation a few times and found throwing a handful of fresh prawns out every 5 mins then carefully rig one up on lighter gear unweighted, let it drift down naturally. Ive found it successful in so far as the hook up, landing them then on the light gear is when the work really starts im talking quality 6kg mono straight to the hook. Any heavier and they shy away. Its awesome when it comes together though landed them up to 1m using this method when more conventional tactics draw a blank. Good luck.
  11. Outstanding fish well done, I reckon the kids will remember it for a long time.
  12. Just had the pleasure of 3 days at Wyangala with 3 like minded fishos. Fishing was tough to say the least. Trolled and spun all manner of lures all over the lake and river arms. bait fished worms and yabbies even tried some Big Neil inspired cheese fishing. We landed one small cod lost a carp boat side hooked on a stump jumper. Whilst the guys headed into town for supplies thought i would try my go to estuary tactic. Soft plastic on the 3kg gear straight out from our accomadation spinning a pretty flat bank with a bit of weed growth and landed a nice golden perch of about 40cm who put up a good fight on the light gear, first native on a soft plastic so i was pretty happy. Lack of fish aside a great trip in an awesome waterway the scenery and wildlife alone is worth the effort and cant wait to have another crack. Cant add any photos as my phones camera chose a fine time to crash on me. Happy Easter tight lines.
  13. Hey Little Flatty love a beer myself and since the advent of Carlton Zero etc, I havent had a real one in over 12mths. Also found health and general energy levels have improved which motivated a healthier diet and regular exercise. IMO they are a real game changer all round.
  14. Hi ive seen trout up at Camden in the Nepean after big rains and Warragamba spills. They were in poor condition i might add.
  15. Know a guy up the central coast uses fresh salmon for jew bait particurlarly the head section. He swears buy it.
  16. Well done keep at it its a proven technique.
  17. Give the wire keeper a net a go used them all the time of Jetties they will do the job with no fuss, Yakkas stay in prime condition.
  18. Done the night fishing fair bit with the kids its a big deal to them a real adventure. The pre made rigs and cut baits great idea. Float fishing unless you add a glow stick sort of defeats the object of a float being a visual aid but if it saves constant snagging it is an option. As Noelm said bream will be the big go we have most success with them, Tailor as well. Not much of a squid fisherman so not my area. The kids will love head torches but in my opinion a lantern is a must as well to light the general area for safety also pick a safe level area with minimum trip hazards make sure no hooks or knives lying around, these are pretty much a given for fishing with kids but all the more important at night. Make sure they are well fed and have somewhere to sit as kids wind down and get tired at night. One big thing is insect repellant nothing worse than having kids getting smashed with mozie bites. Good luck hope you all catch and have fun.
  19. I know a guy who swears by salmon heads as great Jewie baits, Have to be freshly caught though. He gets impressive results.
  20. Very cool indeed. Time to raid the young blokes lego. Sure a lot of people have tried some offbeat tactics. Cheese, Bacon rind, hot chips and a jelly baby have all caught for me. Hit the canals on the gold coast one night with BBQ chicken skin and scraps on light jigheads the bream went beserk.
  21. Thanks for the great tutorial. Squidding something i really struggle with ive practically put it in the too hard basket. After reading and watching im ready to go again.
  22. Awesome advice from Derek and Co ive done the electric motor side and rear mount on my Yak not worth the drama, time, cost and extra weight. Spend the $ on a better yak in my opinion. Good luck whatever way you go.
  23. I must be spoilt i get encouraged to buy gear .
  24. Well done mate, the bigger ones will come just keep persisting. Youll have your work cut out for you on the 2-4kg gear though not sure how big they get in Manly dam, where i fish ive tangled with them up to a metre long. Berley with the corn sporadically use the minimum weight sinker, the bite can be very subtle even from the biggest fish so be on your toes and never leave your rod unattended i learnt that lesson the hard way losing a brand new baitcast outfit to a hungry carp. Lately ive been using circle hooks i reckon there the go. Good luck on the big one.
