  5. Just spent a week in soldiers point and really can't speak highly enough of the area great location, scenery, wildlife and there are some great fish about. My teenage son stuck mainly to bait and left me behind early with keeper bream and flatties.I have amassed a heap of lures in the last two years and have sworn of bait for life,I wanted to really crack the soft plastic code and flatties were the target.3rd day in whilst wading the flats solo with my new shimano rig and an eco-gear grass minnow I landed a nice fish in the high forties(measured against rod) only issue was racing back for the camera would jeopardise a healthy release put the fish first and away he swam.Found out later the missus had been watching from the veranda and zoomed for a shot of the release and fluffed it.Was impressed with fight of the flatty on the flats on light gear and my confidence with plastics grew after that had more luck on smaller fish after that. Two days later wading the flats solo with just a rod and lure would come back to haunt me in a way I wasn't ready for. From our veranda spotted a bit of surface activity a fair way out and thought maybe a big surface lure might get me somewhere close.Tied on a river2sea rover128 raced out and started working it.10 minutes in when I'm thinking of going back for a lure change bang I'm on and this fish went hard.Got it into the shallows and got a look at the biggest whiting you could imagine, with the adrenalin going mad I led it to shore and using the rod indicator took in around 45cm of awesome Aussie sportfish. He swam away strongly,I really need to sort out some photography for this form of fishing but the basic nature of it is really exciting just yourself up to your waist in pristine water stalking great fish I'll never forget that whiting. Was a great trip the local fishos were friendly and keen for a chat, the dolphins entertaining daily especially the two that launched up the beach virtually at the feet of my too young fellas. Thanks to fish raider scratchie for the high tide heads up it made a big difference.Already planning a return foray.

Hi all, treated with a week off work finally I can spend some quality time with the fishing gear at the above location for a week. Will be land based mostly with one day in a tinny also thinking of taking the yak.Not looking for spots just thought a few raiders might know what's worth throwing some plastic and metal at from what I can tell on Google looks good for flattys. Thanks in advance for any tips.
  8. Launched at the ramp once and headed out for a couple of very quite hours so decided to head in approaching Bellambi ramp there was a massive ray and school of rat kings chasing baitfish in the little harbour there,I know a local who catches some great fish at night at Bellambi ramp.
  9. thanx guys wasn't sure how far up gives me plenty of scope on my quest as far as the rocks go ive fished them a lot LBG and safety the number one priority when I go.Just gotta keep casting now.
  10. Now that bass season is closed decided to spend winter chasing luderick on fly.Got all the gear was thinking of trying the georges as its close to home and the less travelling time more time fishing which im going to need if im to achieve my target.Just wondering roughly how far the blackies venture up river, not looking for anyones spots just a general idea.Any help greatly appreciated.
  11. Hey caught a fair few Dory use to target them all the time deep clear water near structure and baitfish, trim the fins on your small yakkas or I found small live sweep to be dynamite on the dory.Handlines are ok or a soft action rod but don't strike too early or hard the rigs mentioned above are spot on although I found hooking up your livies behind the head better.Best of all great tucker.Good luck hope u post up some success soon mate.
  12. Only last year a dead platypus was found dead in an opera house trap in the upper georges river also two others tangled in set lines pretty sure these traps are banned there are definitely platypus there ive seen them fishing in the yak.The above incidents caused a lot of negative press towards fishos in the local papers.
  13. For some reason I really enjoyed that clip makes me want to rush out and buy the side loader, thanks made it look too easy.
  14. Just bought the rhinos mate they are outstanding good range of accessories as well. Now have them on the ute and family SUV.Shop around when I bought mine I rang every local retailer and saved nearly 80$ bucks in total by doing so.
  15. Reggie glad you did well didn't take worms as I thought it was corn only.Had some Berkley earth worms in the jars on me but got out of there as my location became impossibly crowded.Never tried these berkley worms has anyone found them any good they look very life like.
  16. I think they have one at Camden every year as well at the farm I believe.
  17. Had a crack myself couldn't raise a scale in between untangling my gear due to some wild casting from others using massive sinkers.Pulled the pin at 8.30am did see some interesting bi-catch such as nike runners, complete skateboard and a tv ariel.Good to see some raiders get amongst it though must have worked hard for the fish with so many lines in the water.
  18. Top read that about a pretty tough way to earn a crust.
  19. awesome well done, a mate of mine swears by salmon as a jewie bait hes based up that way too he reckons the head of the salmon works best for him he catches hes fair share that's for sure.
  20. Used to target John Dory with Sweep and they worked better than Yakkas. Why not give them a go the Bi-catch could be mouth watering.
  21. just bought two of these yaks and they are top value very stable craft. Some great ideas above for the fit out as I too have a watersnake and lowrance x4 ready to go.thanks guys.

    Myna birds

Had the exact problem with Mynas in the roof and the mites too a pest controller advised me to let off a couple of aerosol pest bombs in the roof the ones you turn on upright and get out of the way in a hurry.Problem solved.
  23. Them smiling jacks!the missus went shopping one day and asked if needed anything I replied go and buy me a new lure,I wouldn't know what to buy she said.My reply was just surprise me and she came home with a bright pink smiling jack lure(same as front left of above picture)of course I acted very greatful.Couple of days later after a couple of fruitless hours bank bashing for bass I threw out this pink thing and about six casts later whack a nice mid 30's the only one for the trip.Who knows what our target species think as we swim our lumps of metal and plastic at them.Steve Starling has recently published some interesting stuff on how fish vision works through the water layers and light spectrums sort of leads me to believe that colour is not that important.I strongly believe that if the lure is practical for the target species and your confident in its use and likely success your more likely to come up trumps then using a lure your scared of losing for financial reasons.
  24. Cheers Krause great easy solution to my question, very pedantic to keeping my gear sheltered from the sun.tight lines.
  25. thanks guys elite x4 im sold
