1. Should loosen the drag up a bit holls, let the fish run further so they take the bait down so the circle can do it's job. Great for lazy fishing, or with kids who get distracted by crabs. They can pay as much as they like while the rod is in a holder and then when the drag kicks in they come running back to grab the rod.
2. Hi Raiders, Just thought i'd let you know that 4X4 magazine has gone totally digital and is completely free to read....forever. I use my old iPad 2 3G as a GPS when i go offroading, 10 inch screen with long battery life....can't go wrong

Phones have built in GPS nowadays which don't rely on Phone coverage (3G/4G). Sounds like you have a GPS built in phone. Not to be confused with a GPS enabled phone which will require a GPS receiver to operate as a GPS. Most will use Mobile Towers to determine your location faster (Assisted GPS) but can also lock satellites on it's own when there is no signal. So if you have an APP like navionics/navigon you can use your old/new phone as a GPS in cases where your OG GPS runs out of juice or dies.
6. Salmon during the suggested times by Tackleworld of Spring Summer and Autumn, you'll find you will be able to hook up easier than you would in Winter due to the frantic feeding times during the warmer months so they suggest you target them during those months. Winter for Wollongong targeting Salmon is more a sit on the beach freeze your butt off for a few hits here and there, slow going but less traffic congestion. So basically the Tackleworld suggestion tries to increase your hit rate on the target species and not a indication of when they are available.
7. You can solve that Peeing problem by getting an Aqua Skin 2 piece, google Aqua Skins WT80 Top + Shorts
8. Hi Kane, I'm not in the neighbourhood at present but am working towards moving back down in a few months. Hopefully i get some time between the switch to wet a line, if so i'll PM you. If not then it'll be mainly night time fishing once i get set up down there. Winter is probably the hardest time to take a kid fishing, cold temps and finicky fish makes for a grumpy kid Try Tallawarra Power Station, Mullet Creek (bit of a walk to get to the better snaggy spots) or Under Windang Bridge for Bream. They are usually fat and ready for spawning so if you find them they will give the kid some fun. Bass Point is also another spot you can take the Kid, the rocks there provide Tailor, Bream and Blackfish this time of year. If you google map with satellite view you'll see the car park and a split between the rocks. To the left is the Tailor and Bream (stick to the left of the second white wash you see in the map) spot and to the right is the Blackfish spot (in between the 2 white washes). The Tailor/Bream spot is a popular spot for Bonito and Kingfish during summer and is also a great drift for flathead if you had a boat If rock fishing is a no go for the kid you can try Windang Caravan Park, there are little breakwalls set up along the shore there that provide blackfish, bream and whiting. Also if you are fishing a run out tide during the near sunset you can try spinning for tailor (undersize but fun). Best of Luck Trung
9. Sounds like the Wild River Backpack It has built in LED's for the compartment and flap that opens up for rigging lures. Those trollies you see, my old man made one using a collapsible trolley found during council cleanup day and an old suitcase. Ingenious ideas come from those old blokes who refuse to fork out cash for commercial products Worked a charm until it fell into the wash and floated to New Zealand
10. Should really post this on the Fishing Chat area, would get more hits from members
11.
The Albackore 3 was the one i was hoping to get to, going to continue to search for it and hope to find some surplus stock somewhere in the vast world

The Albackore 5 was the latest addition to the family before they closed up shop, so i'll be searching for the 3 the 5 and the Altunative.

I'll keep you posted.

Edit : Have you taken a look at the Wild River Nomad Backpack?

12. A Car with a Boot, can be moved to and fro without much strain on you. If fishing from a boat park it close and remove needed plastic trays. If Land based, park it and remove needed plastic trays. Holds more trays than you will ever really need. Exterior bag comes in the form of a backpack which can be removed from the boot and has plenty of pockets on the bag and on your pants Rego plate can be changed to TKLBOX My Current Tackle Box is a RAV 4 and comes with rod holders and a bait esky Edit : But in all seriousness, I use the Shimano Blackmoon and am thinking about upgrading to the Albackore which seems to be discountinued, bugger.
13. I'd suggest targeting Tailor with lures or pilchards as they are pretty easy to catch for anyone who does not fish often. Areas in Sydney i'd suggest would be RUSHCUTTERS/DOUBLE BAYS - Pelagics, everyday table fish and Jews BRADLEYS HEAD - Tailors, Salmon, Luderick and Bream VAUCLUSE AREA - Parsley Bay jetty for John Dory, can't go wrong with a dory. CLARKES POINT - Good spot for a relaxing day out with the family. Areas near Liverpool would be CHIPPING NORTON LAKE - Plenty of topics on this place so search for it. GEORGES RIVER - Once again alot of topics. If you are really wanting to get him onto fish find a bridge in an estuary that is lit up at night. Grab some whitebait put it under a float with a long shank hook threaded through the eye and midway down it's body and drop the rig off the bridge. It'll get smashed by the undersized tailor that usually hang in this location and who knows, a Lazy Jew might take a swig at it also.
14. If you are targeting jews with hard bodied lures i suggest lures made for Barramundi, size and weight depends on method of fishing and what time of day/night. For example, lure fishing for a Jew from a breakwall/rocks i would go for a 120mm Minnow.
15. Can you provide us with what tackle you have access to? Will help with the advice you'll get in regards to locations.
16. See if you can find any beach worms and rig up one on your running ball sinker set up or on your paternoster rig. Also add on a few surf poppers to your paternoster to increase your marketing. When I'm down at Port Kembla beach and the Salmon ain't taking the pillies i throw everything else at em, beach worm, pippies, poppers and prawns. It either does the trick or i end up with bi-catches of whiting, bream and tailor.
17. Hi Twinfisher, The Tailor were there because of the bait fish that swarmed to my burley bucket and instead of wasting more pilchards to the tailors i switched to the metals. The guys on the ganged pilchards only started actively casting their floated baits out when they noticed me pulling in fish after fish (I fish on a ledge closer to the water out of sight from the guys up top on the breakwall who were just leaving floated pillies out waiting for the fish to come in but they were casting over the action i had stirred up below). Southern Port Kembla Breakwall if you are thinking of which breakwall, well lit with lights bright enough for the tankers to be lit up when they cruise by so tailors stick around for alot longer due to the visability. Hiya Sam, Yeah they need heaps of light. I spun for them at a breakwall down in Port Kembla where massive tankers enter so the lights there need to be super bright. When fishing there can see the colour of the fish well before you have it within netting/lifting/gaffing distance. Great place but limited spots and the Rats there are capable of dragging away your catch if you don't keep an eye on them. I've tried spinning for Tailor at bridges and wharfs with the lights they have there with no success even though the tailors were on the chew. Regards Trung
18. I drive a Rav4 2nd Gen and it drives better on the beach than my deceased Patrol (bottomed it and it snapped in two ) My bro-inlaw has the Forrester XT and that also handles sand, dirt and gravel with ease so yeah a Forrester can do your beach driving. As for Camping on the Beach itself, have not done it, don't plan to either Too much sand = bitch of a clean up and creating anchor points in sand is harder than malleting in a tent peg into terra firma. But i don't think there are many places besides Fraser Island that has Sand Camping or allows camping on the sand. Find a place that is remote and has no Rangers and you're set. Also leaving your truck stationary on the sand for an extended period of time that you are not familiar with usually results in a morning digging out your wheels
19. Beach driving does not require 4X4, all you need to do is reduce the psi to 16 to give you more surface contact. Anna Bay is the access point to that long beach north of Newcastle (stockton beach) and last i was there they have a tire inflation section to pump your psi back to road driving pressure. Give it a go it's hellafun. As for camping. NSW is a pain when it comes to rugged camping, it's mainly designated sites and the desirable places like beach frontage are usually paid lots. That being said the state forests are free camping spots and you can find nice little getaways from the hussle and bussle of the suburban jungle. http://www.forestrycorporation.com.au/visiting/forests?camping=Yes Change the filter to include fishing and you'll have a whopping 7 sites But there are other places you can camp for free on a beach setting down south way. Personal favourite is Mystery bay http://mysterybaycampground.com.au/ (edit : Looks like they are now charging to use this place Guess my second choice Kangaroo Valley will be my go to place from now on. http://www.sca.nsw.gov.au/water/visit/bendeela-recreational-area ) Learning how to drive your 4x4 rig is recommended and there are plenty of clubs that will mentor you in regards to the vehicle you decide on or you can go to a 4x4 driving class held by dedicated driving schools. I recommend doing atleast 1 class so you get the basics of it down, you can even find classes that provide you with a truck to drive in. Most of your offroad driving is basically uneven untarred roads, forget about the image you see of 4x4's climbing mountains and splashing through raging river crossings, you'll only do that if you wish to persue that type of driving If you do plan on getting a 4x4 for camping i suggest skipping the mods until it becomes a bi weekly exercise. The only Mod you'll need at startup will be a rooftop cargo rack where you can load your tent, luggage, comfort amenities and fishing gear while the boot takes the perishables (esky full of beer and ice).
20. Tailors will chase/take metals spun on the surface, don't need to let it sink. When they are on the chew they'll take any metal, when they are finicky you need to change up your retrieve to mimic a fleeing injured bait fish and they'll usually bite. Best spin session i have had with the choppers was at night. People were pilly ganging them and they were pop popping the surface smashing bait fish. Why waste bait i thought, so i threw on the metal and spun in fish after fish while the other peeps frantically tried to re-bait. I was pulling in 3 fish to their 1 at 10pm at night with only the breakwall light to illuminate the place. Amazing how quick a pair of long nose pliers de-hooks a fish from your lure to be cast out again into the frenzy
21. That's some seriously thick scent you using Do you coat it or inject it? I've been using a syringe and injecting my plastics with scents....seems to stay smelly for longer.
22. If the kids are fishing i highly recommend using squid as you don't have to change the bait as often.
23. Hi Matt, Welcome aboard. If you are after constant hits try targeting jetty's and wharfs. If memory serves correct Drummoyne is littered with both If you taking the kids along try Howley park at the end of Victoria Pl. Good luck.
24. Grab a beanie with LED lights that are the replacement of the Caps with LED. Keeps your head warm and lights your way and it's a PANTHER!!
25. Moved from the standard hook ranges to primarily circle hooks and haven't looked back. Baiting them is tricky sometimes but once you get the hang of it they practically hook the fish for you. Just make sure you change the way you strike when you notice a bite. With Circles lift your rod tip instead of the sharp strike to set the hook, the circle usually rolls out of the fishes throat and snags at the corner lip. However bait disappears fast when those pesky pickers find your rig.....but then again i never liked pulling in finger fish
