  1. Hi all I am in the process of buying a new sounder / chart plotter for my boat. I really want to connect the fuel flow sensor to my NMEA 2000 network but I cant really find any reviews on it. A couple of you tube videos show that the reading is a bit all over the place. Does anyone have one installed that can give me some feedback? I'd just love to know if it is accurate in terms of consumption readings. I want to believe that once it is calibrated corrected that I can trust it to calculate how much fuel I have used on a given day. I understand that this wont tell me what's in my tank but I never go out without an empty tank and I know my tank holds 180ltrs. Also whilst on the subject has anyone successfully connected their Yamaha to their sounder via the back of the command link system (Older style not the plus)? Is it worth it or do my existing command link gauges show me the same info? Thanks in advance to anyone that responds. Cheers Elliott
  2. Thanks for all the congrats, I really am over the moon. I'm still beaming about it on my way to work this morning.
  3. Headed straight out this morning to about 5miles west of browns and set the spread with a plan to hit the 500fa mark and head nth in search of tuna. Water temp was 20.8 but to my amazement about 5miles east of browns the tiagra screemed and we were on. 20 minute fight and we managed to land a yellow fin! It was big too! 54kg on the scales, this is my first yft and something have been chasing for a long time. The fish fell victim to a xrap in blue pilchard. I can't seen to post the pictures from my iPhone. I'll try to work it out
  4. Hi Brett I run a HDS5 and my sounder reads the bottom at cruising speed until about 400m. That doesnt bother me though because usuall when cruising speed I am only interested in the top 50m of water. Once at rest I can read the bottom at browns. HDS5 Gen1 1kw 50/200hz Hope this is useful. Cheers Elliott
  5. Hi mate Wouldn't give Saturday a run, weather looks shoddy to say the least. I will be out Sundat (Hopefully), at this stage running north of brown but might still go south. I'll be on chanel 21 all day listenting to everyone else catching fish . Call Sign Moonshine, happy to share any intel.
  6. Hi there Looking for some help, I am considering purchasing a custom centre console 5.6m that has a 90 4s 2009 model mercury on the back. When speaking to a friend he mentioned that he thinks it is under powered. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this and if you could explain what underpowered would mean. I want to be able to take it out to the shelf to troll for game fish. If under powered is it a big fat no no or just something I could look at upgrading in a couple of years. Thanks in advance for any comments.
  7. Hi All Just want to go for a couple of hours fishing plastics targetting bream. I was thinking about running the boat down in the georges near flower power and flicking plastics around there. Are there any bream around that area, I am aware they may not be much good for eating but I just want to get out for a couple of hours targetting these things. Thanks in advance.
  8. Yep, I 've had days like that. The worst one that frustrates me the most is this: Summers Night on Sydney Harbour and we decide to anchor up a middle head, after an hour or so of not much action mate and I decide we should move. By this time it is close to 10PM. Go to start the motor and there is nothing, no turn over, nothing! Pulled the cover and tried to rip start for about an hour, nothing. Called a more experienced boating mate, he suggests getting on the radio or a flare..... a flare with a westerly wind in front of middle head....not real keen to start a bush fire so I get on the radio. Channel 88, I finally get a response....... "suck sh%t you pommy W&nker". This enraged me as I have helped a number of people on the water. Last call, sea tow. So $250 from middle head to rose bay and the boat is back on the trailler. The next day I keep looking at the motor in disbeleif that my three year old Tohatsu has died, all I am thinking is why didn't I go the four stroke! Father In-Law comes over with the owners manual in hand, I grab it chuck in on the table and throw a tanty about how crap Tohatsu are, what do you think the manual is going to tell me etc etc. Rant over and I go to pick up the manual off the table to tell him to take it home with him, where I grabbed the book it lands on a page with a unforgettable image......the kill switch! F% No! I storm outside like a child throwing a tantrum slamming the back door and check the kill switch.... what do you know. Push it in fully and the motor turns over first go! B%st%rd! One more boating lesson learnt, I think I have about 20 other lessons the hard way and I am sure there will be many more. Owning a boat is fun though! Now I have had a bit of experience I am looking to upgrade to a boat capable of offshore runs..... I am sure that will be a whole new frustrating and fun learning curve! Cheers
  9. Under the pill box where the Hawkesbury hits Pitt water. You can't miss yellow tail there and the odd squid.
  10. I've been trolling around my usuany bonny spots in Sydney for a few weeks now with only one caught..... Having said that last weekend I managed a couple of kingies and then this week to my suprise managed three striped tuna. To me that was a shock but the water temp at the surface was around 20c, I would imagine by the end of November we wont be able to troll 500 metres without hooking a bonny!
  11. Hi mate I install all of my electrics, its not too difficult more time consuming than anything. You think this will take an hour or so and before you know it the whole day is gone. The most expensive parts are the control panels. Make sure you get decent marine grade wiring, anything else will corode and 12 months later you'll be doing it all over again. Plan everything before you start, lay out the lights and switches and cables before you start. I even drew a diagram for myself to make sure everything made sense before I started. Take your time, do it right, do it once.
  12. I was there on Sunday & the jetty / wharf is closed, you can still put the boat in but you dont have access to the wharf or jetty......unless you jump the fence..... The notice said that the whole thing was going to be knocked down & a flotting jetty put in place. Shceduled to be completed by mid July. Cheers
