  1. Hi raiders, can anyone recommend a spot to catch some squid from a kayak. I will be up there for a week and need to practice flicking my jigs around while I have some spare time. I will be based at fingal bay but can take the yak anywhere in the port. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. yeah you would definitely be over 2nm to reach 60m off Syd.
  3. Hi Raiders, As I'm planning to venture out wider it's time to invest in a VHF radio. What are you guys using? If i don't have a certificate to operate it can I still log on to marine rescue? Cheers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. I'm just curious. I have some garmin navigation charts which have references to the above mentioned publication. I was wanting to look them up for my personal gain. Does the NP100 differ much from the AHP 20? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Hi everyone, I would like to know if anyone has a copy of the Australian seafarers handbook? Preferably an electronic version. I have searched for one online but have had no luck. Cheers, Dave.
  6. Hi Brett, I have the garmin gpsmap750s. Not sure if it is the same as yours. I am happy with its performance so far but I haven't been any deeper than 250m to test its limits. Could you tell me the difference between a normal transducer and a chirp one? I only have a 600w transducer so I doubt it would perform well in deeper water. Have you had yours out deep? Dave.
  7. Any luck with those Bluefin? A mate of mine went out on Wednesday but had no luck. Said they were too far east.
  8. Update; Floor done. I went with marine ply and reused the old carpet which was still in good nick. I chose this option because I only needed to replace half of the floor and I wanted it to match. I reused the old carpet as I couldn't find anywhere to buy the same colour carpet. All up it costed around $120. Took me a day to measure and cut the ply, 4 days to apply the lacquer, a day to stick the carpet and a day to refit. I coated the ply with 3 coats of lacquer and used a waterproof contact adhesive to stick the carpet down. Will have to see how long it lasts. Next up - the boat cover. 9. Those trees kept jumping out in front of me. Or was that you W4z shaking them? I'd have to agree with you trout stalker. It is a difficult stream and not too many places to access it from. Have you been there lately? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Hi Raiders, Went for my first ever trout fishing trip on Friday/Saturday. Flicking Celta,s around in the Coxs river on Friday morning and catching many snags. I see a few fish swim by and they look big. First step done - locate the fish. Now it was up to skill and technique, or maybe luck! A couple more casts of the Celta in their direction, out comes the trout and nails it right before my eyes. It thrashed and splashed around but was subdued by my 6lb fluoro and the nice fat Rainbow was brought to rest at my feet. It measured up 40cm and I was very happy with that result. A great start to the weekend. Soon after my mate pulls in a nice Brown measuring 33cm. Several more undersize were caught and as many more dropped too. Trout are definitely hard work to catch but worth the effort when it comes to the plate. Ate my first trout which we cooked on the camp fire and it is one of the best tasting fish I have ever eaten. The rest of the trip became a Celta recovery mission with both my mate and I having to wade through the chilly water to retrieve the snagged lures. Thankfully no one fell in. The one that didn't get away. Ready for the camp fire.
  11. Thanks for the info. Do you think the thread could be re open as the original purpose of this post was to get some info on diving forums so to avoid areas where they will be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. My unit was purchased in 2001 so not so new. I emailed the manufacturer in Florida USA and they gave advise on a kit number to purchase from a local supplier. I found a kit online from a mob in Victoria which costs $35 all up with delivery. A much better price than the last kit. Should come in the mail this week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I had the same thing happen once at sow and pigs reef. There was about 20 boats fishing side by side and these spearos decided to swim into the reef. 20 boat loads of anglers were shouting out abuse and they didn't care. If we have to stay 60m away from them, then they should stay 60m away from us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Hi raiders, took my young fella outside the heads for the first time on Sunday 23rd. I had a good day on kings last time I was at longy so decided to head back there for my son to have a chance at catching some. It wasn't an early start and it took some convincing to get the boy to agree to go offshore. I get to longy around midday and was disappointed when I saw 4 boats bearing the diving flag. They were anchored right where I had marked the last time I was there. I tried a few other spots but couldn't mark anything on the sounder. So now I'm wondering if there is a forum or website that might have information about when and where divers are going to be around so I can avoid the area. No hard feelings to the divers as they have the right to be there too. I just would like to plan my day around them. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. My first boat had a cable system with a drum behind the steering wheel and pulleys. This hydraulic system I have now is so much better. It's been trouble free for 13yrs until now. It's like having power steering in a car. I recommend it although I don't know what else is out there to compare. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
