Hey All, Decided to head down to one of my favourite spots this morning. The family is having a BBQ this afternoon so o thought I would try and catch some fish for the BBQ. got down to the spot around 6am and the wind was blowing. Rigged up a squid jig and in two casts had a squid. So I quickly rigged up the big rod and threw the squid out live. Tried for a few more squid but could not manage any. I decided to try and get some live yakkers and while I was rigging up for that the big rod bends over and the line is peeling off. I run over and strike and nothing is there. I bring in the bait and the head and half the body is gone. I was looking at the bait thinking how dos I not hook the fish. I made what was left over of the squid presentable and threw it out again. About 30min pass and I finally have my first yakka. As I'm taking it off the hook and putting it in the bucket the rest of the squid is taken. The rod bent over and the line was screaming again and when I got to the rod the fish was gone. It was turning out not to be my morning. I have now lost two fish. All I was thinking was that they had to be kingfish. I re rigged to cast out the live yakka. The bait must of been in the water two minutes and the rod buckled over and peeling line again. This time I got the rod and set the hook. Finally I was onto a fish. The fish ran straight to the mored boat and I just managed to turn the fish before it busted me off. I was only using 15lb line so I knew I had a good fight ahead. The fish took some more runs and each run was as powerful as the last. By the third run I was convinced it was a King. I had the fish near the wharf and it ran straight under it. I got on my knees with half the rod on the water and some how got the fish out and finally surfaced. It was such a good sight to see this nice kingfish come up. I walked him around to an area where I could net him and he had one more run under the wharf and again I got him back out. I have him on the surface and he is not doing much. I go to scoop him up and he runs again this time he busts me off. I fall and sit on the wharf and just think to my self what do I have to do. I was angry and upset. I tried to catch some more live bait but for an hour I could not get a single bit of live bait. I thought to myself I need to catch something for the BBQ. I had a few prawns so tried for some leather jackets and in half an hour I had four. After that I decided to pack up and head home. On the way home I was trying to think of the Positives. The one I came up with is that it has been about 6 years since I last caught a kingfish and made it my goal this year to do my best to learn how to catch kingfish constantly off the shore. So after today I'm on my way to achieve this but right I'm still shattered and the events of today will be going around my head all week with what ifs Cheers Martin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hey mate, I have only been down there a few times now and have had not had a bad session. Either catching big tailor, bream and trevally or leather jackets. I have seen some kings swimming around the wharf and then swim out to the moorings so I always make sure I have a live bait out now. With the jackets you just have to strike at the right time. I find they don't have a normal bite but more of a suck and pull. Normally I have a little slack in the line and as soon as I see the slightest movement in the line I strike I always seem to miss the first few then after a couple of misses I seem to figure out the bite and catch a few quickly. Hey guys, Late report only had time to write it up. I was able to get out for a fish Saturday morning and even if the wind looked like it was going to be strong. Got to the ferry wharf just after first light. I started the morning throwing some squid jigs around and in about 5 minutes I had two squid. I quickly put one out holding for a kingfish around the mored boats. I then decided to try for a few yakkers and in no time I had 5. So I quickly put of a live yakker. So by 6:30 I had a live squid and yakker out hoeing for a kingfish or something so come by. While I was waiting I caught two more squid and was thinking maybe this might be my day because normally i struggle to catch squid. After a few hours and still no pelagic fish I changed the rig on my little rod and tried for some leather jackets. Took a few minutes until I finally hooked a fish after continually missing the bite. I hooked the first fish and it ran straight under the wharf. Somehow I managed to get it out and was bringing it to the surface and then it decided to have another run. Again I just managed to stop it from busting me off and I got it to the surface. To my surprise it was a juvenile grouper and the first omens have ever caught. I let him go and he swam off. The next hour or so was fun. On that time I caught 7 leather jackets. Five of them I kept for a feed. A few little snapper, bream and wrase. After that I hooked on to something big under the wharf. Just like the grouper I managed to stop it once and I saw a big brown shape start to come up. Then it had one more run and this time the fish won. After this the wind really started to pick up and decided to call it a day and go home with a feed of leather jackets. Martin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hey mate, I have not fished Woy Woy for a while but when I use to I always started at the the T wharf that the ferry goes to. Which you can see at the right of the screen shot below Also you can fish off the enclosed swimming area which is just down from the T wharf . You will catch most species like bream, flathead, whiting and if you have the right bait blackfish but I mostly fish for leather jackets around this area. I use a small long shank hook with a a little bit of peeled prawn and that normally dose the trick. Hope this helps Martin Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi All, I'm currently fishing in neutral bay off one of the ferry wharfs. Just caught this fish while after leather jackets. I think it's a little brown grouper (if it is will be my first) It gave me on hell of a fight on the 4lb line and leader I was using. Hi All, Spending the weekend up at at Forster in my holiday van. Huge storms up here last night and was thinking maybe I would not get a chance to fish this morning. I woke up around 5:30 looked outside and the weather looked ok. Got my rod and plastics and headed down to the wharf. Not many people around and the water was very dirty for Forster after all the rain up here. Rigged up a #3 black and gold squidgey to hope to get a flathead. A few casts in and bang got my first flathead. I didn't have a ruler with me but would not have been legal. Put him back and the very next cast I was on again. This time the fish felt a little better. Put it back in the water and was pretty happy with two fish. A few casts later I was on to another fish about the same size Over the moon with three fish in about 6 casts I put the fish back and the very next cast I was on to another fish. This one was the best of the day After this a school of kingfish can through. I put on a pooper and they followed the lure all the way to the wharf with out taking it. I went through a bunch of lures and all they did was follow it. After having enough of the kingfish teasing me I was pretty hungry so called it a morning pretty happy with four nice flathead. Hi mate I have used whole and half pillys under floats of a night at little manly cove. You will get plenty of tailor. I normally get fish in the 30 - 45cm range. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
