  1. Yeah, Tef1on, they do go hard. Caught a few big Salmon from the same spot using the same rig but pillies instead. Around 60cm-70cm, but I reckon the bonnie went harder, especially closer in.
  2. Dregs of society these people are, Jim. I feel your pain mate, losing that old Alvey. That's just sad. 2 Alveys of mine were taken, and an old Penn that my Uncle and I used to go fishing with when I was younger. For what? A hit of crack most likely. By the way...does anyone know what that tiny thing I caught is - in the first photo? I'm guessing it's a juvenile Mullet or a Pilly?
  3. Haven't posted in quite a while.. Unfortunately just before Christmas I had all of my rods (7 in total) and reels stolen from my "secure" storage cage in my apartment building. Every fish I've ever caught was using one of those rods, so the sentimental value pissed me off much more than the monetary loss. The only positive was the timing...being in retail I never get much fishing in over December or January anyway, and I had an easy choice for Christmas present requests! So anyway, new rods and reels in tow...I finally got a chance to hit the rocks yesterday for a full session. I was fishing in close for drummer, using Cunje and prawns. It was very slow going and neither bait was really tempting them out. I had another rod out further, using a 4 ganged hook under a float with a whole garfish on. I managed a 38cm pig, in between countless Kelpies and Wirrah cod. I even hooked my SMALLEST ever fish!! Not much action happening on the second rod for hours, but then it starts screaming. I grab it and set the hook, and immediately I think Salmon - as I'd caught plenty from this spot before, same rig but with pillies. After a shortish fight, I get it in close and was still going hard...ducking and diving down low. I finally get it up and it's a big fat Bonito! Definitely the biggest I've managed. The only others I've caught were in the mid to high 30's. It's good to be back fishing!!!
  4. Nice fish! Were you using prawns or Cunje?
  5. I like to use Schneider. ..20 - 25 pound. Hasn't let me down yet
  6. Good haul mate! Cunje always does the trick.
  7. Good stuff Roylo! Sounds like great fun
  8. Drummer...or Rock Blackfish
  9. Good luck elferoz! Give em heaps
  10. Thanks mate. Always fun, especially if they start jumping out of the water!
  11. I hit the rocks on Thursday with two rigs, one to fish in close for pigs and bream, and a second to cast out further for Salmon or Tailor. I had absolutely no luck this week with the pigs, which is unusual as the conditions seemed good and the spot is usually pretty reliable. I managed to land a decent Salmon, which are great fun of the rocks and tend to come in good numbers when it's this cold. I was just using 3 ganged 5/0 Mustads with a whole pillie under a float. The drummer were nowhere to be seen...bread burley, Cunje or prawns didnt do the trick. No bream either, just annoying bait stealing Kelpies! A couple of small leather jackets too. At least the salmon showed up for a while!
  12. Thanks mate. Yeah, Kurnell 99% of the time! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  13. Thursday was a cracking day... Great conditions and plenty of bites Landed a a good 48cm pig and a few pan size keepers. I met a nice guy on the rocks who was fishing for blackies, and he'd never tried drummer on the plate before, so I traded him one of my pigs for one of his blackies. All caught using Cunje Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  14. Hi mate, I use an Alvey 650 and 13' Beachmaster rod. Anywhere between 15 pound and 30 pound Schneider mono, depending on the conditions. Always running sinker right down to hook. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
  15. Mate they are awesome to eat. Clean the black stomach lining out when gutting. Usually I just shallow fry the fillets for a minute each side, then finish up under the grill for a few minutes more. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
  16. Haha. .bit of tiredness mixed up with looking into the sun and general ugliness! I never use a float. Just small sinker straight down to hook Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
  17. Cheers guys. I've pretty much only been fishing for drummer over the last couple of years. Caught plenty in the 35cm to 45cm mark..but only two or three around 50cm. I couldn't imagine the fight one bigger than that would take to land. Not bored of it yet! Still dreaming for that mid 50cm to 60cm model. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
  18. I normally fish off the rocks in a spot which is a bit sheltered, so even when the swell is up its not too bad. But the swell was pretty low on Thursday, so I decided to fish off a ledge which is usually a bit hairy - but I knew held some beasts. I had a bit of Cunje from my last outing, and I got to the spot around 6 am. Burleyed up with some soaked bread, and fishing with a small sinker straight down to hook. I was casting into a pretty narrow gutter to my right which was very rocky, so I was snagging up quite often but I persisted as I was getting some serious hits before I got snagged. Before long I managed to hook up, and the pulsing downward lunges told me I was on to something good! I thought I had him but as I got him close to the ledge he made one more powerful lunge and busted me off! Would've been a good pig for sure. I kept persisting and then I got hit again. This time I managed to steer him a little further away from the ledge and landed him. It was a beast...50cm and fat as a football. Gave one he'll of a fight. I managed to land another high 30cms and got busted off again before I packed it in. Great fun. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2

  20. Thanks mate. I find that the Bream I catch off the rocks always look healthier than the ones I used to catch off the piers inside the Harbour. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
  21. Great effort landing that pig. They fight hard even when your geared up for them. Well done! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
  22. Got to my spot very early yesterday morning, about an hour before sunrise. Very little swell, no wind and bang on low tide. I knew drummer fishing was going to be tough in these conditions. ..they don't like the placid water much. I had a fair bit of Cunje left from last week, and banana prawns, as well as a few pillies (for the second rod) under a float. Started burleying with bread, and for an hour or so there wasn't much action happening, as I expected. Then I noticed my second rod was twitching, so I went to check it out. There was something on...but it wasn't putting up much of a fight. When I reeled it in I was very surprised to find a fat slimey mackerel hooked onto the bottom hook of the three ganged 5/0 Mustads! Not my intended target needless to say! A fishing buddy of mine was on another ledge live baiting for kings. ..so I donated it to him. No luck though. A couple of hours pass and I'm getting bites but no real action. So I decide that I'm going to move spots and find somewhere a little "rougher". So I packed up and went exploring... I found a new spot that looked "drummerish"! Weed, cunje, whitewash and bommies left right and Centre. So off I went... Watched it for 10 to 15 minutes. Not a spot I'd fish in any kind of swell but ok for today. First cast and I was on! I pull up a decent 36cm pig. A few kelpfish, and then the bream turn up. Few in a row...Two keepers in the mid to low 30's Stayed for another hour and got another drummer for the table. Not a bad day. ..no monsters but good fun! Sent from my Galaxy Note3 using Tapatalk 2
