  1. Thanks for clearing this up. Decided on the wind cast x in the end... 5 crbb and quick drag... Now the wait begins...
  2. Hi raiders I've been looking around for a new reel as I find the 6500b a bit heavy after long hours of casting of the rocks/beach. Or perhaps I'm not getting enough cement in my diet? I've narrowed down my selection to one of the following for their long cast spool: Daiwa emblem pro 5500 Daiwa wind cast X 5500 Leaning towards the wind cast because it also has quick drag system which could work like a bait runner but depending on different sites I am seeing different images of the emblem pro. One is green with a manual bail trip near the foot of the reel. The other is black and doesn't look much different to the wind cast. Anybody know which emblem pro is newer? Thanks! Frizzy
  3. Definitely sounds like squid. Especially if it looks like your float is steadily sinking under the surface as opposed to suddenly sinking. If it happens often enough (after the excitement of striking your rod repeatedly without hooking up wears off), lower your rod tip and then slowly wind in the slack. Gently lift your rod tip and you will probably feel the squid swimming off with your pilchard. If you keep winding in slowly you might find yourself in a game of tug of war with the squid. Your chances of landing him are very slim but if you can get him in close enough, a friend might be able to scoop him up with a landing net or cast another rod out with a jig attached. In some cases they will refuse to let go even when you have lifted the bait out of the water but usually let go and end up back in the drink. Every once in a while they will end up at your feet.
  4. You're right unfortunately. Dont think it was breakwall though. It was probably the rocks at Hill 60 http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/news/local/news/general/man-dies-in-surf-at-port-kembla/1793824.aspx Condolences to his family.
  5. Well done on scoring your first jew. It took me 12 years to get my first one. I'm sure it wont be your last!!

    Bombo

I agree... sounds like an awesome session even if they were just salmon... wonder if it had anything to do with the barometer climbing all the way up to 1030 yesterday...
  7. Woohoo!! Fishraider is back!! Looks terrific!!
  8. Hi Tan I've got one just like it just over a year ago. I have mine spooled with 4lb braid and 6lb mono on the spare spool however I dont think I've ever used the mono spool... Its caught many flathead and a few bream on plastics. Biggest catch on it was a 4kg shovel nose ray.
  9. Awesome report and an awesome jewie from the beach! Well worth the long drive and braving the elements!!

    Hard Body Fish?

    Looks like a box fish
  11. Hey Leo You will usually find a link to switch between a Hi-fi and Low-fi version of the site. The low-fi version is a text version of the site so you can enjoy fishraider on your smartphone while waiting for a fish to bite!! Cheers Frizzy
  12. Holy Mulloway!! what a good looking fish!! Cant wait to read the report on it.
  13. There are other games which are alot more playable. I've got the rapala fishing game and its the least played game that I have. You can makes games about racing cars, sports and shooting people, but when it comes to fishing, there's really no substitute for the real thing...
  14. Well done ASJ!!! Great report and great fish!!
  15. That would be the bioluminescent plankton in the water again. They glow when they get startled.
