  1. Sounds like a pretty successful session this morning. I have experienced the same thing with the salmon not being interested in a variety of lures. Have had more success on them just outside of port.
  2. depends on what sort of fishing your doing. if you look closely at the cheaper ones you will notice they are spot welded, and therefore not as strong as the more expensive holders that are welded the full way around. the thickness of the stainless also comes into play and is worth taking into consideration. And the quality of stainless steel. You dont necessarily need 316 as they wont be getting submerged. Another thing to consider, especially with the aluminium boat is a rubber or plastic 'washer' around the holder. If your fishing with heavy tackle the spot welded cheaper rod holders may not stand up to the task. however if its estuary fishing with generally lighter tackle they would be fine
  3. Good stuff would have been a great morning on the water today. Do you eat the tailor or are they for baits? I have smoked them before and are quite nice but haven't found a good way to pan fry them and havent been bothered with curries.
  4. Havent heard too much this week, apparently the water is pretty good, should be fish. Best of luck
  5. And top work on the fishing mate, sounds like a great session
  6. Krispy, which Uni are you at mate and what are you studying? Im studying at Sydney Uni and usually after my short days i head straight back home. I have never considered going for a fish, you've given me a whole new perspective!
  7. Hey mate I think you should ask the bloke if you can take him/it out for a fish one day in his boat just to see how it will work for you. I work in the marine industry and I think that is the very best thing to do with boats you are semi unsure about. Working in the industry i also know that getting parts for them is difficult. I do know sea rays and that is certainly a great boat for the money! However im not all to sure about how well it will suit your purposes. But im happy to be proven wrong!!!! Best of luck mate! Im excited to see how it pans out.
  8. Yeah nice, a mate was out yesterday arvo and managed one around 65, so ill have to get out with him soon haha. Hopefully they do yowie, and for the landbased kings im not too sure, ive seen videos of guys getting them off gymea baths. Sometimes lilli pilli baths too
  9. Haven't posted/fished in a while, heres a brief report of my last few outings. Fished twice last week, once for kings, and the second was flathead out the front. Caught about 8 relatively small squid along south cronulla before loosing my favorite yo-zuri to the weedy monster of the deep (that really heavy thick kelpy stuff ). And tried out and around the bombora only to loose two squid to rats. Came back inside the river and was teased by some larger models around lilli pilli that just didn't want to play. Ended up with no kings, but took home half a dozen squid for dinner. Following session I decided against the kings and just went out around merries reef and greenhills to do a few flathead drifts. One rather large sargeant baker and a few 35-45ish sized flatties but plagued with spikies. Enough again for a few plates of fish. On this day I saw two very shy hammerheads that wouldn't take baits. One came up very close to the boat on several occasions and it was a really cool sight. Both fish would have been in the 1.2-1.6m range. Also saw a small pod of dolphins and a seal in the bay. Played with the seal for 10 minutes before we got on with the fishing. Went out this morning, couldn't manage any yellowtail which was odd so had a go at some duskies on plastics. Fished the very end of the run out and the bottom of the tide releasing one nice fish around 50cm and missed two others of similar size. Was fishing with a gulp wriggler on a 1/6 ounce head. Then had a crack at some kings and finally enticed a little rat on a dead bait. Anyways have had some nice days on the water. One thing i have found is that there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as much surface action (tailor, macks, kings, bonito, salmon and what not) in the river as the last couple of seasons. Anyone else finding this too? Kinda sucks because that was always the best fun on light gear. Water temp is roughly 23-24 degrees im pretty sure. Also I've been thinking of having a crack for jewies in the next couple of sessions, anyone being doing alright at the moment? Cheers
  10. I havent been having much luck on decent kings out the front at the moment either, loads of rats around the bommie on the right days it seems
  11. Water temp in the hacking at the moment is currently floating around 21-22 according to my fishfinder
  12. Mako that would be great and I haven't really spent much time in the area you described mcfishen I will have to have a look. And I did the exact same when it was brought up last time but couldn't dig up a thing onearmedfisho. It just pooped into my head the other day and I thought Id bring it up again to see if anyone may have known
  13. I know this has been brought up before. But I thought it may spark new conversation and talking about the surprised tyre reef i previously thought it was south west arm but someone brought it up to me recently and said it was near dark bay or at least along that shoreline somewhere. Does anyone have any other ideas about where it is. Or even better pinpoint it for me. I would like to find out I have done research and couldn't find much at all. I will most likely do sounder runs in the areas I expect and then I want to dive on it if I can end up finding it.
