  1. http://waterinfo.nsw.gov.au/water.shtml?ppbm=SURFACE_WATER&rs&3&rskm_url gives all the info you should need. you can zoom in on the map or use the drop down menus on the side. I use this for the murrumbidgee river, gives you cross sections at the metered points of the river as well as height and flow charts.

    boat licence

the easiest way to get practical experience is to go fishing with a mate who has a boat, or as oz brett said talk to the ski boaters and the like. Most people will be happy to help out a fellow boatie/fisho gain the necessary knowledge/experience.

    boat licence

i got my boat license a year or 2 ago in leeton through the ABC course, keep an eye for the ads in the classifieds, they seem to come out this way fairly regularly. have the requirements changed to obtain your license? as i had to fill out a log book for an amount of hours (cant remember how many) of experience with someone who had their boat license and take that to the wagga maritime (at rta office) with the certificate from the course.
  4. Biggest bag of carp senior male was 30 something, female 38ish... over the whole weekend only 200 odd carp caught the whole weekend. to put it in persepective last year there was 400/500. i think there was about 17 leagal cod and 35 yellas this year which is a great sign.
  5. Howdy rowdy raiders, Thought id whack up a little report/review of the local fishing comp held last weekend. Normally held in march at Gogeldire weir on the murrumbidgee it was postponed this year due to the floods. The grassed area to the right of the photo is the camping grounds (or that which didnt go under water) and the weir gates were fully opened = a LOT of water! So with a couple of thousand dollars up in prizes plus a couple of boats to be raffled the missus and i got sorted and headed out friday afternoon, set up camp and out on the water. With only a few nibbles and beers (probably more beers than nibbles) to pass the arvo things were looking rather dismal. Moving onto another spot within 15mins Marzie's rod bends over and shes on, bringing up a nice cod at 58cms. We take off after the marshall's boat as they decided to turn around and head the oppisite direction and didnt hear me yelling out at them. We pull up and they too were enjoying a few frothies and as i hand the fish over to them it gives a good kick and thrashes on the side of their boat heading back for the river...unfortunately the marshall got a hold of it ("if it goes in thats leagal for sure" was the call he made) and couldnt stretch it to the 60cm mark...close but no cigar for Marzie only a couple of cm short..nothing for the rest of the day as fishing ends at 530pm. Day 2 up reasonbly early (630am) to a rather fresh though glorious day and on the water bout 8am. we try a couple of spots with nothing landed and by this time id be happy with a carp. im also busting for a wee but every time i get up another boat goes past, when theres finally a break in the traffic i stand ready to release, when my (reasonbly stiff tipped) rod bends like crazy and i lunge for it coz i have about 1m of line left on my spool and try desperately to get some line back. after about 10mins the top of the water swirls and we catch a glimpse of glory! I get marzie on the net and bring it home with my heart in my mouth waiting for something to go wrong...Fish in the boat!! this photo makes it look much bigger... Happy chappy I was on the leader board until another fella landed a 70something but i had already got my prize by landing that fish . we went out for the final couple of hours of competition on sunday morning but nothing legal caught but all in all a great weekend felt like i had two weeks off work not a weekend lol. So if your looking a for a great family orientated comp look out for the 2013 'Bidgee Classic!!Check out some more photos on the facebook page "Griffith Marine & Caravans Bidgee Classic". Cheers Kai.
  6. Absolutely grouse! Well told adventure and great pics. Thank you
  7. Gday Big Neil. I tend to lean towards the paternoster rig consisting of a threeway T swivel with about 40/45cm line to the sinker and around 3/4 of that for the line leader (ie 30cm). For the hooks i have been using and succeding with the mustard big mouth and gamakatsu shiner(?) hooks cant remember what size though. I find the hook rate is better than using the standard bait hooks with the wider gap hooking in the corner of the mouth and less striking effort needed. They also seem to be able to "unsnag" better as long as when you initially snag up, ease off on the retrieve and bounce over the snag similiar to a lure. As for bait i havent used shrimp for a while cheese and grubs have been my bait of choice.
  8. Well ive got the taste so heres another report Went out yesterday after work and after some stuffing around getting oil/petrol for the boat (after mondays effort of running out of fuel and enjoying a nice paddle (1.5 hrs) down the river ) got out to the river with the missus and a mate. It was a perfect afternoon and the competetive banter was in full swing as we pulled up to the first spot. Marzie ( ) was onto the first fish before i even had a bait in the water. nice 46cm cod. I got snagged as she pulled in the next fish around 39cm. this continued for the next half an hour; me getting snagged, marzie catching fish and ryan getting bites but unable to get the hook set. So after marzie had got 4 or 5 cod we decided to move to another spot where she was on again but a carp this time and ryan helped the boys situation with a nice 45cm model. It was around 830pm by now so we started heading back to the ramp pulled up at one last spot. I finally had a good hit only to get snagged up again leading to my forfeit for the day haha another five minutes a Marzies rod keeled over and she was on again. As the head came out of the water i called it for 60-65cm a good solid fish i thought, we measured it up... only 56cm! he had a solid head but a stumpy tail so a quick photo and back in the drink to fight another day. So the boys lost this round marzie ended up with 7 cod 1 carp, ryan 1 cod and me with about 30 stick fish (snags lol) but good to get a fish in the boat and the missus' smile says it all.
  9. Hi all, thought it was time to take the plunge and put up my first fishing report. the events took place on australia day beginning with myself and my girlfriends brother heading out to the grahams grave section of the 'bidgee in between Leeton & Narrandera about 800am. we gathered a couple of grubs before heading up stream to a nice hole. the river is nice and high so there are plenty of back water sections. dropped in a couple of baits and within 20 mins frank had the first cod on the deck at 59cm. we managed a few more from 45-60cm over the next couple of hours before we picked the girls up for a friendly comp with the boys taking it out with 11 cod and 1 yella to the girls 2 cod. plus some extra photos from the past two weeks including the first fish i have got the missus to hold properly for a photo after our double hook up
  10. Gday All, I have been lurking around this site for a while gathering some very useful pieces of information and loving all of the banter that goes on. My name is Kai (aka flatbattery), also live in Leeton NSW. Bit far away from the kings and jews but regularly get onto to the cod and yellas of the 'bidgee (just about every weekend) and head to batemans bay a few times a year. I am in the process of fitting out my stacer proline ready for a couple of weeks of serious coastal fishing over the christmas break. So hello to you all and all the best for the new year. TIGHT LINES!!
