  1. Yeah went in for its service. Everything was fine. As far as I can tell it's a completely random noise, comes and goes when it pleases, cannot replicate it at home on the ear muffs. Might call the dealer and email them a better video next time it does it. It's to far away simply to drive it there and for it to not make the noise!!
  2. Better not be sick! It's a brand new motor!! Only done maybe 25hrs. I'm keen to know if it's what Dunc333 mentioned above about the solenoid.
  3. I should add the motor was warmed up and had been running for about 30mins before I filmed the video.
  4. https://vimeo.com/133922803 I filmed that about a month ago now. It's a bit hard to hear especially with the chop there was at the time but the motor is idling normal and in neutral. The noise kicks in about 7 seconds into the video. It's like slipping belts on a car. I give it a few revs as this usually makes it disappear. After a few attempts revving it it stops just before the end of the video. As I said before not convenient to take to dealer due to distance away. Motor still runs fine, does it in neutral and in gear, but not all the time and just pops up randomly. Does this sound like the solenoid valve? Since this video I noticed that I wasn't opening up the bleed valve on top of the plastic fuel tank so it wasn't allowing air in and thought maybe it was struggling to suck up the fuel. I doubt it though.
  5. Yeah still under warranty but not real convenient to head to the dealer. I had it out today running for a good three hours and couldn't get it to make the noise once... Strange.. I'm not that worried, motor still runs fine and did so when making the noise so it couldn't have been anything to major, just curious if anybody else had the same problem. It was a really cold night when it did it, maybe that had something to do with it, who knows...
  6. Hi raiders, I have a 2014 Suzuki df50 with around 20hrs on it. The other night when I took it out crabbing I noticed it was making a strange noise. At idle and in the lower revs, it would make a belt slipping/sucking noise from the front of the motor, near where the cowling cover joins the lower half of the motor. It wasn't all the time, only intermittent and it did it in neutral and whilst in gear. I could get it to go away sometimes when in neutral if I gave it a quick rev, then backed off. But it would come back. Not sure if it does it at higher revs as the sound of the motor kills it out. Also I couldn't get it to do it when on the mufflers, flushing out the motor. Any ideas???
  7. Yeah I think I may have dented the little steering motor when putting the steering housing back together. I did some further testing late last night. I hooked up the little motor to a battery I had laying around and it works fine. So I'm thinking that when it was in the drink or when I tried to move it side to side, the motherboard has blown or partly failed, and this is the reason I'm only getting a reading of 4ish volts off the wires after the motherboard. Sound about right?
  8. Hi all, This is a question for all the electrical gurus out there. I've had cause to strip down my riptide ST 55 bowmount after it went for a swim. I've opened up and cleaned everything and I reckon it's as clean and saltwater free as new. Well when I tested it, everything worked except steering it left and right. I assumed I must have put the steering box back together wrong, so I pulled it apart and found that the little electric motor was dented slightly and I couldn't spin the shaft. I bent it back into shape and now the shaft spins but still no joy. I pulled out the multimeter and started testing. Now this is where my question comes in. What strenght of reading should I get when I'm testing the wires to the drive motor and pushing the left or right on the remote?? When I tested my battery I got the usual 12ish Volts on my multimeter show up. When I tested the wires it gets around 4 volts show up. Does anyone know if this is the correct amount of voltage that should be showing or should it be higher?? This testing was done after the mother board at the wires that connect to the drive motor to make sure it was getting power. The reason I'm asking is that it's $30 for the little motor from USA. Or I have to buy a new motherboard and motor from BLA at a cost of $580. If anyone knows what reading I should be getting don't be scared to speak up!!
  9. Hey Timmy, How did u go with the spray deflector? I just fitted a new transducer and I'm having the same problem. Curious as to if it interferes with the transducers signal
  10. Cheers Huey, yeah I'll use the V bracket that i have. It does have little tabs that the manual says are to be used for storage, not transport. But it doesn't have a provision for a trailering bracket. U would think for the money the motor cost they would integrate something into its design.
  11. Cheers for the reply. I think I'll use the V bracket I have and pull it down into that
  12. Hi raiders, I recently upgraded my boat and motor and I'm now running a tiller steer suzuki 50hp 4 stroke with power tilt trim. The bloke at the dealer said its fine just to leave the motor all the way up when traveling but should I support the leg somehow? For eg my mate has a 90 merc 4 stroke which has a fancy little H pattern bracket that the leg can be powered down onto. I was thinking of using the standard V shaped support that goes back down onto the trailer and power the motor down onto that. I did as he suggest back from brisbane to ballina and when I went to lower the motor it squealed a little, like air was in the Ram. So should the motor be pulled down so the ram is under pressure or just leave it resting freely? Cheers in advance for any opinions/personal experience! BTW the engine is sensational!!
  13. Thanks for the pic. I ordered the same one to fit a elite 7 chirp. I'm making a little box for a switch panel and the sounder to mount to, that is bolted inside the side pocket. Should come up trumps
  14. Thanks stevefish, nicely made box. I might incorporate that with a ram mount. Mii11x I can't see any of ur pics??
  15. Thanks mii11x I had a look at their site and they sell a kit specific for the sounder I'm after. Looks like I'll be able to mix and match to get the desired effect I'm after aswell. Anyone else used ram mounts for holding sounders under gunnels of their boats?
  16. Yeah that's what I was thinking locodave, just wondering if anyone else had any better ideas that I hadn't thought of yet!
  17. Hi all, Just purchased a blue fun scoundrel and am in the process of fitting it out. I am having trouble on where to mount my sounded as on my old boat I was a let to fit the sounder on the bench seat, under the right side gunnel. This boat has pedestal seats and im wondering where everyone else with pedestal seats mount their electronics. I don't want to mount it on top of the gunnel as it will no doubt cop a bit of spray and it will get in the way. I was thinking of boxing in the side pocket and mounting it on that but I'm not sure. Wondering if ppl could post pics of where they have mounted theirs. Cheers, Sam

    Whoops!

About three weeks ago I was at my local ramp with a mate. We had just launched his boat and I had finished parking his ute. I was walking down a walkway to the jetty next to the ramp and chatting to a bloke inside his boat as his mate was reversing it down. It was a very nice custom built tri hull plate alloy boat. As it went down over the ramp I watched the boat start going quicker then the trailer and realized what was happening. I yelled out to the driver, to speed up as they weren't that far from the water but it was too late and the boat came crashing off and slid down nearly halfway into the water. Lucky the motor was up. The bloke in the boat was the owner of the rig and the guy in the ute was giving it to him! He had undone the winch strap and the safety chain and was using an old piece of rope with a slip knot in it that he could pull the tag end from inside the boat. Rope was so worn out that it just broke. Was actually quite amazing to watch first hand!!
  19. "it is no use trying to catch crabs in the middle of winter when the water temp is low." I've caught some of the biggest crabs I've seen in winter. Just have to know when/where to go. I was a non believer also until I was shown by a friend who is a mad crab chaser. Try night time, full moon and run in tide, you will be pleasantly surprised!
  20. I have eaten eel for as long as I can remember. It has a sweet white flesh when prepared and cooked properly. Mind you all the eels I have eaten come from a fresh water creek on our family farm. The one pictured above is the absolute largest you want to go. At that size and bigger, the muddy flavor comes through the meat and it doesn't taste good at all. If you are keen to try eel then prepare and cook it the following way; 1: before you start, prepare yourself a work area. To hold the eel when processing it we used a nail hammered in to a wall or fence post about chest height at a 45* angle. once caught and killed (knife straight through the eyes or hit with a hammer, stick etc) grab the eel by the head and slide the head of the nail up through the gill/slit next to its fin so it comes out its mouth. This lets keeps both hands free and the eel will just hang there. 2: with a sharp knife cut right around the body of the eel just below the fin. Only cut the skin and try not to cut into the meat to far. Make sure u have cut right around and it is essentially 'ring barked' it like a tree. 3: grab a pair of pliers and try and take hold of a piece of the skin that you have just cut. This takes a little practice to grab only the skin and not the meat but you will pick it up fairly quickly. Once u have a good grip simply pull down the body of the eel and the skin will peel off like taking a sock off your foot. There will be some resistance and if the meat starts to tear reposition your pliers and go again.. 4: once the skin is removed you will be left with a blue shimmering colored firm outer flesh. Simply cut from its anal hole up to its head like you would a fish and pull out all the guts/swim bladder etc. once this is done use your knife to cut the head completely off where you cut round it's body and toss it away. 5: Take the body and give it a quick wash in water (should be pretty clean anyway) lay it on a cutting board and cut it right through into tuna steaks about an inch long each. Put all the eel into a container of water with a dose of salt (usually a couple of table spoons full), and a splash of vinegar. Make sure they are all covered by the water and place in the fridge over night to rest. 6: give the meat a quick rinse off in the morning and place it into boiling water. U don't want to cook it all the way through, only blanch/part cook it. Take it out and dry it with paper towel. Then roll the pieces in some flour and dust of any excess. ( you can flavour the flour if you like with herbs/spices but we never bother) cook the floured pieces in a pan with a little oil until flour has browned and the meat falls off the bone easy and you are done. 7: squeeze of lemon juice over the meat and you are ready for a feast! It is best eaten with your hands as the pieces are small and this allows you to suck the meat off the bones. Enjoy!!
  21. Thanks Huey!! At least I know for sure now.. It will save e some stuffing around that's for sure!!
  22. Mate I wear spotters polarized sunnies all the time as I reckon they do a really good job of cutting out the glare and allowing me to see into the water. They are a little expensive though.. A few months back I left before sunrise with boat in tow and it wasn't until I was on the water and the sun was coming up that I realised I had forgotten them!! I tried to put up with it but by 8.30 I couldn't take it any longer. Luckily for me there is a tackle store around the corner from the boat ramp at this particular estuary so I asked an old bloke to watch me boat whilst I ducked around the corner. I went inside and found a cheap pair, (not sure of name as I have lost em now) $45 from memory and headed back fishing. I could instantly tell that they were not as good as the spotters.. All they really did was darken the area a little and remove a very small amount of glare.. So in my opinion It's like most things really.. U pay for quality
  23. Thanks Huey, I already have a ctek charger just for the AGM batt. I didn't really want it to charge from flat just to keep it topped up whilst using it, as sometimes I will be running a waeco fridge off it aswell to keep a few drinks cool. Do ya reckon it would be able to keep it topped up or is it pointless?
  24. Hey raiders, I have just finished installing my minn Kota and I'm using a AGM 130amp/h battery to power it. I was thinking of running cables from my other starter/main battery (or the motor) to charge it whilst under way to my fishing spots. i have a 30hp merc tiller steer electric and pull start and was wondering wether it will put out enough juice to charge both batteries when motor is running. Will the Kota draw power from both batteries though? Or can I isolate the AGM somehow? Cheers
