  1. Hi All, Myself and a friend are new to fishing in Sydney. Over the past few weeks, we have been fishing from some of the Eastern Suburbs wharfs and rocks - land-based, and on the harbour side. We have been pretty successful in catching yakkas, but are not sure of the best rig when using them as live bait. At this stage we are targeting jewfish, and in the coming months hope to target some kingies. If anyone can offer us some advice I would really appreciate it. I am looking for information on how to setup the rig with regards to line, swivels, floats, sinkers etc, as well as information on how you would actually place the hooks in the yakka (bearing in mind we'll be land-based). Thanks so much, KevS.
  2. Hi Cobba, When you say you fished Bondi Beach, do you fish from the sand, or from the rocks to the north of the beach? (I'm new to Sydney, and live close to Bondi Beach. Keen to try a bit of fishing there - just looking for a bit of local knowledge!). Thanks so much, Kevin.
  3. Hi All, I enjoy light tackle lure fishing in the Sydney harbour (land based). I have a nice rod and reel, however the rod is a bit short at 7' (originally bought for river fishing) and as a result can't cast as far as I would like it to. It's a Shimano Nexave. So, I'm looking for a 9'-10' rod with the same type of features as my 7' - light, thin, strong, and also reasonably priced. I'm using 30lb braid on my reel (if that makes a difference?). Any recommendations and advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Kevin.
  4. Hi Everyone, Just arrived in Sydney, and would like to do some land-based lure fishing in the harbour. I am in the Eastern Suburbs, and have found a few spots from Rose Bay up to Watsons Bay. I will be fishing at night (8pm - 11pm) and am looking for advice on what lures to use, and how to fish them. All info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Kevin.
  5. Thanks Squiward and Alasdair - really appreciate that info!
  6. Thanks so much Andy! Would really like to take you up on your offer, so sent you an email yesterday. If you are available tomorrow afternoon (Sat) for a few hours fishing that would be great. If not, I'll take the advice given to me by you and a few others and give it a go. Cheers, Kevin.
  7. Hi All, We have just moved to Sydney, and are based in the Eastern Suburbs. I am looking for a spot where I can take my 4 year old boy fishing that would be safe for him (ie no rock surf fishing) and is easily accessible. If you could also give me some advice on how to fish the area (lures, plugs, bait etc) I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Kevin.
