    Fish Eaters Or

I think all fishos fish for a main reason. I reckon the top categories are: Getting away from the Relaxation Sport/hobby Cooking and eating fish. For me personally, my main driving force is to catch and eat fish. It's like a lucky dip and rather exciting to not know what you will be eating for dinner that night! (unless you are crap at fishing like me and end up frying the left over bait!) I wouldn't keep something that was going to go to waste. I know it may sound silly but I would feel guilty catching something that I wasn't going to eat full stop!! I know a lot of fishos get a little defensive with the old 'cruelty' line but hey, if somethings got nerve endings and a brain, it's gonna feel pain!! I reckon Rexie should "catch 'em, kiss 'em where it's gonna be hurting (right on the lips even if it's a Jack!) and then throw them away (I guess it's the nurturing mother in me!) So I fish for my cave-woman instincts! Anyone want some good recipes?? Coz
  2. Hi Kevin, Let me know your address and I will get you one! I personally love the species section as it makes me feel all motivated!! It actually tells you the details of the fish (ie colour, marking legal size etc), Growth Potential, Habitiat and Range, Fishing Techniques and tackle requirements and the best bit in my eyes is it tels you it's edibility and how to store it! It's such a fab book. Best $2 I've spent in a long time!!
  3. Hi everyone, Just wanted to let you in on the fact there is a smashing book at the post office right now. It's called 'See Australia FISHING' by Scott Amon and it's a Gregory's book. The contents include: Fisheries- estuary, offshore, island and inshore, beach, rock, coastal freshwater, inland alpine fishing Crustacean and fish species- (A* if you dont want to catch ciguatera!!) Tackle and techniques:- Rods and Reels, Lines and traces, Lures and flies, Hooks, sinkers and connectors, floats, boxes, bags and containers, gaffs, nets and gadgets, gear for fishing boats, essential accessories, knots, rigs, baits, the bonus of berley Regional fishing guide- Key map and map symbols, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, WA, NT, QLD. It gives you really good step by step colour photo diagrams of how to tie heaps of different knots, colour photos of a gazillion different fish in their profiles/up close and of actual catches. Brilliant book. Go and buy it, it's only $2. If any of you fellas cant get one let me know. I will grab one for you! (That's how good it is!) Be great for kids as well with all the pretty pictures!! Ok then guys, let me know what you think! Coz x
  4. What a shocking arvo fishing boys! The wind on the pier was like a cyclone and the only thing I caught was wind burn on my ears! You know when there's no point sticking around for long when you have the same prawn on your hook for 1/2 an hour with not so much as a lick on it! There was one point where I though I had a big 'un and a few people got very excited, others who had obviously been there a while with no action looked pretty miffed that this chick who had only just sent her hook down had caught something rather huge! I played the part, all the advice you fellas had given me during the week running around in my head, slowly reeling it in and getting very excited when it seemed to be fighting back! Every time I reeled it in a bit, I noticed the line went back out a little. Yay! I thought and was getting very excited when some smart arse shattered the dream with 'I think you have caught your hook on something'. I'm thinking "well, der, isn't that what happens when you go fishing?" and the other people were laughing I felt like such a wally! I got my glove on and pulled the line up with my bare hands. It came up a lot easier than my efforts with the rod and reel and when I saw the hook, there was no prawn on it! I like to think that the bugger that I had hooked on my line got away with his dinner rather than while my line was wrapped aroung a stump of the pier and I kindly catered to the ever abundant pufferfish who had a quick snack off my hook! I have decided not to go fishing when it's windy (is that a fair comment?) especially as nobody else caught anything, even the fellas with the 20ft casting nets were only catching thin air! It's also a bit tormenting when the wind hits your sinker and you think you've got a bite! I tried to attach a pic of my little doozy girl having a go but it said I only had 7.3 mb space!! Never mind.
  5. Hehe, that sounds like my idea of fishing! I will laze around all day on the cat in my wide brimmed Joan Collins hat and have someone take a few pics of me holding a rod, and then I will go home with a 2000L freezer worth of fish that someone else caught for me! All this while trying my best not to throw up! Soooooo glamourous!
  6. Thanks fellas, that makes me feel heaps better! The charter owner said that they will make up numbers to a min of 14 people. Hopefully I will be able to hold my own somewhat and not have to ask too may questions! I can't wait!
  7. Hey guys, I have been looking into going on a charter as this is something I have always wanted to do. However, I dont want to be a pain in the arse to everyone else on the trip that can fish! Is it best to do a charter when you have caught a few more than 1 fish? The one I was going to go on leavs from Bribie Island. It is $160 for the day and that includes morning tea, smorgasboard lunch, all bait and all tackle! That seemed like a bargain to me. What do you fellas think? Cheers Corinne ps, hoping o post a nice photo of a big fish this arvo!
  8. Kak weekend for fishing boys! Hubby had to work from home and as I dont drive cos of my epilepsy, the results of a days fishing were 'off the menu'! Poo. I just watched some lucky bugger on channel nine hooking a Ciguatera-ridden Chinaman (yum, come on, it all adds to the 'flavour'!) and the most beautiful red emperor. Grrrr. Makes me Lucky git. Anyway. That's as interesting as it got. Must say though, my little princess was 100% engrossed in the program! Every time the were lifting the fish out of the water it was "Wow! pretty fishy"! I wouldn't have been surprised if she had said "Oh, oh, we've got colour"!! Oh well, I keep myself entertained I spose. Good old eBay. Hehe. Gonna make my hubby do the ironing for my trouble! UNDER THE THUMB? U BET! And he's also from any extra cirricular activities he maybe interested in! (You know what I mean) Speak to you next weekend fellas. Will hopefully have some fishing news cos I'm gonna make him feel really bad all week, then he'll take me to Bribie!

  10. I would love to! Where will you be going? I will have to get your number so I can call you and arrange it or if you prefer email my address is corinneharrison@optusnet.com.au If you are on msn messenger, my ID is coz1981@hotmail.com My hubby is really not keen on fishing so he's not the greatest help nor likely to come with us so it will just be little ol' me! Will you be coming down with anyone else? I guess that's enough questions for now! Let me know the details! Cheers Corinne ) Thanks so much guys. You are all so helpful. The worrying thing is that it all makes sense! Maybe fishing is genetic! I was only saying to my husband last week that I think it would be better to use live bait and 'present' the bait as it would appear naturally! He was just bunging the prawn on the hook any old way and said to him "if you were a fish, would you eat a prawn that looked like it had a head growing out of it's arse'?!? You can imagine the reply, but hey, ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer! I have been sending your replies to my Dad and he reckons I am in good hands! Thank God for Google search!
  11. You guys are brilliant! Thanks so much! I had better reel in a big one this weekend to prove I was listening to your advice!
  12. Grant, Do you mean pull the line off the reel without breaking it? Women are not known for being visual and I cant get the image of what you mean mate! I think some of you fellas need to come up to Brizzy to show me what to do! My treat, it's worth a Pommie fry-up in the morning and lunch on the pier!
  13. Thank you so much! I do have the swivel on my line too I might need a better hook though! I will definitly get some 'real' bait as well! When you say 'set your drag' what do you mean? I was 'easing' the line down into the water and pretty much letting the wind catch the sinker to cast out. I was then turning the dial on the top of the reel to lock it. Should I not do that? I found that the if the reel spun too fast, all my line was getting tangled up and it's a pain in the arse having to cut it all and start all over again! I hope you guys have been through all that too. It would make me feel a lot better! I understand now why you boys want to retire and just fish every day! I work in a posh Jewellers in the City and instead of drooling over 2 carat diamond rings, I'm dreaming of Shroncliffe pier and pulling in a 10kg fish on my 4kg rod! Hehe, I know you lot have done that too! Oh dear. I think I might have to approach Rexie to do a reality show with me. "Teach A Chick To Fish In 5 Days" What do you guys reckon?
  14. Hey guys and girls. How're you all doing? I'm loving this site, I never knew fishing was so interesting and addictive! On that note, I am going to Shorncliffe again this weekend (a pier that goes out into Bramble Bay North of Brisbane). I have a novice rod that takes light action 2-4kg and measures 6' 0". This is the only tackle I have and the only weights I have are '1's'! What is the biggest fish I can 'angle' for with those specifications? And should I use something other than prawns as bait? God I sound useless dont I, but come on now, when I am on the front cover of 'Anglers Times' I will give you guys all the credit I promise! Corinne )

    New Girl

Sure thing, but I think we should just keep it to the fishing talk or the boys will ban us from the site!
