  1. Thanks everyone. @ Johndory: I take her fishing. try to try a different place each time. @ Papafish: Right under the bridge on como side. On the left of the marina. There is a small path through scrub to get down there. ill try and attach a pic. @ Big Neil: If she keeps out fishing me I wont for much longer haha. She is good value to come along though. @ Jimbu: I was wondering how the other side would fish. couldn't see a path down to the water from where we were though. Current was quite slow but from my tide app the high was going to be a fair bit lower than the previous couple of highs.. Cheers Tara
  2. G'day Raiders, Mum and I went for a few hours fish down at Como land based this morning. armed with nippers and prawns, we got there just on low tide. Wasn't too sure if it was going to be full of snags as neither have fished there before. I lost about 15 hooks to mum's 1. Was a little quiet to begin with but very nice and peaceful unless a train was going overhead. All of a sudden mum pulls in 3 small bream in quick succession. All between about 10 and 20cm. Not wanting to be out fished by mum AGAIN I moved around a bit and got a small flatly. But then mum was off again with another bream. Ha We both kept pace with each other after that with still small bream, then all of a sudden my line is going nuts and pulled in a nice 30cm bream that went for quite a few runs that was tricky to land with no net. Bit quiet again after that with 1 whiting at 20cm and a few more small bream. A great day wetting a line with mum. All caught on prawns and nippers with 8lb braid and 6lb leader. Thanks for reading. 3. Thanks Guys, Those were the ones I was looking at yesterday. Will have a shop around and see what I can come up with. Once I have one ill put up a post and let you all know how I am going. Hopefully even be able to catch up with some of you guys and you can show me how its done. ha ha Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it. Cheers Rah
  4. G'day Raiders, Iv had a look through the threads on here but think I might need a bit more info. Iv used my mother in laws kayaks quite a few times to paddle the kids around but never to fish from, she has a heart condition and no one wants her going out on the water by herself so it has pushed me to get me own and tag along. I'm 5 foot nothing and about 55kg, what in your opinion should I be sticking clear of? The weight of the yaks does concern me a bit, getting to and from the water. If by myself id probably be going down to the cooks river or if with the mother in law she likes to go to Minnamurra, so no rough seas or anything like that. I don't want to spend a "fortune" until I have figured out if it is something I'm going to be able to do regularly enough. Any do's or don'ts would be appreciated. Or if anyone has any recommendations that would be awesome. From what I have read on here, a sit on top is the way to go. Cheers Rah

    Beer

Are you running kegs Witha? So time consuming bottling 6 batches. There is a satisfaction with making a great home brew. Cant go past the coopers 62 pilsner for me.
  6. Thanks Ryder, Never even heard of them. Cheers
  7. G'day Raiders, Caught a bunch of these little critters the other day at Greys Point. Have not caught them before and can't figure out what it is? I'm sure it is probably something very common but couldn't find them on the net. They sure do love nippers. Sorry the pic isn't great, I didn't check it till I got home. Cheers Rah
  8. Unfortunately I am now unable to come along. Sorry for the late notice but was unavoidable. Hopefully will be able to come along in the future. Cheers Rah
  9. Thanks. And they always go back in the cooks. Ha. Did see another bloke keeping some though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. G'day Raiders, Finally had a few hours spare to try some soft plastics, so headed down to the cooks river at the Illawarra rd bridge. Only my second time having a go at sp's so I didn't have high hopes of catching anything, just wanted to try some different retrievals. Got a few bites so I was pretty happy with that. But mum came along to practice her casting and landed a nice bream at 26cm. Out fished by mum. Ha ha ha. Needless to say she was cheering over catching a fish first time with sp's. Caught with a 2" grub in motor oil. 1/16 jighead. God only knows what kinda retrieval she had going as she asked me only minutes before if she was supposed to let it sit like bait or wind. 11. Please put my name down too. Keen to learn anything and everything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. And here I was thinking there was something wrong with the APP when I was down there a few weeks ago. Thanks for asking the question and clearing it up for me too. Cheers Rah
  13. I have installed this app but yet to set it up and try it out. Will let you know how it goes once it's set up and have caught a fish. Ha. It will be interesting to see how accurate it is. Cheers Rah. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Cheers for all the info. In the process if purchasing some goodies. As for setting it up, there seems to be some debate on using swivels and swivel clips. What's everyone's thoughts on this? Is it better to go with braid tied to fluro leader with a double uni and then onto the sp or hb? Or should I be putting a swivel in between the lines? Have never used the swivel clips but was reading that a lot of people use them to attach the lure to the leader? I would have thought that this would alter the action? Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks. I'll stick clear of the blades for a while and get some sp's and some divers I think. Already have a few poppers so might even chuck them around a bit. I know there is fish where I lost the blade as I got a 30cm bream after going back to prawns. Iv got a good idea on what sp's seem to work for everyone else from reading other posts so I'll start with them. Thanks for the info. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. G'day raiders. I'm keen to get into lure fishing, but my knowledge is next to nothing. Apart from searching this site and the World Wide Web I know nothing. Ha My question is, how to choose the best lure for the conditions I'll be fishing in? Had a chat to the bloke at my local tackle shop and he said I really need to know how deep the water is and and what's on the bottom of the river, ie: sand, weed or rock. How do I figure all this out? Never the less he sold me a small blade that I got 4 casts out if before it snagged on a small branch less than a meter from me. I wasn't jumping in the sludge of the cooks river to get it back. What's the best place to start? Hard bodies or sp's? I know this is probably more down to preference and a lot of practice. Fishing land based for bream and flatties mainly on the cooks river at night after the kids go to bed. 2-4kg rod 2500 reel 8lb braid 6lb/10lb fluro leader. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Thanks everyone. Got the Uni down pat. So will hopefully get out on the weekend and give it all a go. Itching to try out the new rod and reel. Will give all these tips a go and see what works best for me. Hopefully be able to put in a report after the weekend. Cheers Rah
  18. Thanks for all the info, that's great. I will definitely look up those other knots that I have never tried to tie. I was advised: Braid to 9ft of mono with a double uni knot, sinker running on the mono, then swivel, then fluorocarbon leader, usually about 2ft. I will give it a go and hopefully I can get the knots down and it wont interfere with casting. Cheers
  19. Hi All, After a bit of info if possible. Iv just bought a new reel and have never used braid before. Was having a chat to the bloke at my local tackle shop and he recommended that I don't run a sinker on the braid but use a leader for the sinker and then a trace. I have never heard of this before and after a bit our scouring the web I still cant find much info, (maybe not the right keywords) Will running 1 only, 00 or 0 ball sinker on 8lb braid do so much damage that it is worth while using the leader? will having the extra knots weaken the whole set up? i'm not fantastic with the knots just learning the uni, usually use the half blood. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  20. Hey Hey, Where is everyone planning on throwing the lines in this long weekend? And what are we targeting? I’ve got a mate Hiring a house boat on the Hawkesbury, Going to go up there for the day, never been before so ill be hitting whatever I can. Down the gong for the family Easter Sunday doo, will try and get a line in at Windang for some bream or flatties or out the Mullet Creek for the bream. I also managed to get next week off work, so will try and get a few sneaky hours in down at the Cooks river. Hopefully have something to report on Next week.
  21. Nice work mate. Where about in Cronulla was this? Never been beach fishing but is something I am keen to tap into. Doing some research.

    Fish Age

Hey there Raiders, Have been catching a few nice bream in the Cooks River lately (along with some nice plastic bags. ha ha.) It has got me wondering the age of fish and bream in particular. Have had a bit of a search online and can’t really find any info at all. Does anyone know anything about this or where I can find out? I know it depends on A LOT of things but have heard one extreme to the other that a 25cm Bream is 3, 8 or 20 years. And that’s a big difference. Ha ha Any info at all would be great. Cheers
