  1. Gday everyone... We hit Wyangala on the weekend for a camping/fishing trip. After looking up the weather forcast i admit i wasnt really keen but after ten phone calls from my brother who was hanging to hit the water i folded and threw all the gear in the ute hooked up the boat and we were on our way.We reachd the dam just as the sun was going down so we quickly got the boat in the water and headed to our usual spot to set up camp and have a few . It was a bloody long night as the rain hit us not long after we settled in and the fishing was slow, we only caught one yellowbelly and a few carp for the night.Woke up the next day feeling a little dusty let me tell you but the sun was out so it was game on.We started off bait fishing for a few hours landing a few yellas and silver perch and then the carp moved in so we made the decision to head out for a mid day trolling session and within ten minutes i got smashed at first i called it for an undersized cod but after a minute or so i was like get the net ready mate this is bigger than i firt thought its got a bit of weight and its starting to have a bit of a go.Moments later we had the biggest cod of the trip in the boat.High fives all round .Basically to cut a long story short the rest of the trip we spent trolling hardbodys or casting spinnerbaits resulting in some nice little cod and a few yellas.monday was our last day so we got up early and fished hard searching for another big fella. We had agreed if any of the rods went off we had to hand it straight to my brothers girlfriend who had missed a couple of sessions and stay at camp culling out the carp population.and after an hour or so i got smashed i knew it was another monster but i handed the rod over straight away and after another good battle in came our second mighty murry high fives allround again we were all stoked with our results and after a few pics he was on his way.And that just topped off a fantastic trip, well worth braving the storms for attached are a few pics of the trip. Cheers ben
  2. Hey mate like a lot of bars it can be perfect one minute and a rough as guts the next.Best bet is check the sea reports (wind & swells) And you make the call going by your own boating experience.Ive heard a few story's of blokes coming unstuck. And i know from experience she can get pretty hairy at times. Its not as big as it looks mate there is a reef on the left heading out and a bit of a bommy on the right That fires up in rough seas.Just check weather reports before you head out and with a bit of common sense you will be fine.If it looks to rough on a particular day take the kids for a fish in the river.Goodluck
  3. Hey mate i did alot of running & gunning picking up a few here and there most of the fish were caught up near the mouth on the left hand side of the river up tight to the rock wall, and off the sand bar in the middle of the river. I dont worry to much about water temp mate i caught more fish through winter than i have been lately with the temp on the rise.Goodluck
  4. I agree they are an awsome looking fish, fight hard and you dont hear a lot of reports about them,i guess thats why they are up near the top of a lot of fisho's to catch list.I was lucky enough to catch a nice one over a metre long up north last year on a charter (possibly a f.r lure record) I also called it for a shark at first glance then when i realised it was a cobe i was over the moon as it was a first for me .I dont fish sydney so i wouldnt know where to start but i got that one trolling a classic deep diver around fairly shallow reefy area just off a bommy maybe you could try a couple of trolling sessions. goodluck on the cobia quest
  5. G'day raiders!!! Well i have spent the last two weekends fishing the shoalhaven river, mostly using plastics only because i fall into the trap of sticking to what works for me.But i have quite a few blades that dont see the water much so i was going to give them a swim fish or no fish lol.So one rod was set up with 6lb leader and a 1/4 ounce tt jig head for my plastics and the other with a small tt blade, and off i went. The first session produced a nice bag of flathead in 2.5 hours with plenty of throw backs and a couple of bust offs it was a hot session and im pleased to say the little blade did most of the damage The following sessions although bringing back some nice bags of fish werent quite as hot as the first one (had to work a bit harder for them) honestly this doesnt bother me as i really do just enjoy bieng out on the water (the wife still doesnt understand how i can love it so much) anyway although the little blades held there own i have to say the plastics produced most of the fish in these sessions with the gun lure being the zman minnow in new penny on a 1/4 ounce jig head (deadly).End result a freezer draw full of fillets mmmmmm beer battered flathead and one happy fisho thanks ben.
  6. hey mate i just use the standard running sinker rig you have mentioned just go a small ball sinker to a small swivel then a long leader i would go atleast 1metre.hook sizes are probably personal opinion but i use small ones size 8-10 baitholders. if you can get some garden worms push a worm up the hook then put the power bait on the end of the hook. The best tip i can give is keep your line slack and watch your line rather than the rod tip for bites, the trout will play with the bait for a bit sometimes and will shy away if they feel resistance. goodluck
  7. i agree just leave the 6lb fireline on and you dont need to go less than 4lb-6lb mono or fluro leader.just got back from a few days down there the fish are biting goodluck.
  8. nice looking yella's boys sounds like a good trip, sore heads are all part of the fun lol.I havent been down to burrinjuck since the end of summer and im hanging to get back down there.Geat spot to wet a line.
  9. good effort !!! sounds like a top weekend regardless if the fishing was a bit slow
  10. Thats a great catch mate gotta love fresh whiting fillets !!!
  11. couple of nice bream !!! good on you for braving the cold conitions
  12. Thanks boys!!!The silly string can cost you a few fish lol but its all fun.
  13. Went down the coast for the weekend for another top weekend of fishing on the shoalhaven river. This time i fished solo both days in the little car topper tinny, hit the water about 7.30am on both days in search of a few winter flathead using soft plastics. The first cast on saturday morning got smashed by a nice flatty and the action was fairly consistant for the next few hours managing to reach my bag limit by 11am,ranging in size from 38cm to 60cm and 1 27cm bream with plenty of throw backs.I was fishing with a 4lb leader on saturday with a light drag setting although i did get busted up a few times and lost a honker of a bream at the boat it was a great morning.(gave 4 of my fish and some advise to a nice bloke at the cleaning table who was new to soft plastic fishing and diddnt have much luck in his yak that morning).Upgraded my leader on sunday to 10lb and the bite slowed down slightly (heaps of small stuff) but still managed to bag out with ten nice flatties i think the biggest today was about 56cm.All fish were caught on a range of squigies with a 1/4 ounce jig head.ps just finished feeding my face with some beer battered fillets yummo cheers benny boi.
