  1. Hey guys, Spent countless hours trying to catch a jewie and still can not manage to land one. Tried landbased of the breakwall at forster, spent almost an entire weekend in the hawksebury with livies and pillies and still no luck. Anyone care to help me land my first jewie regardless of size? Your name: Brayden Rumble Your Location: St Ives, North Shore Fishing technique: Jewfish in any manner Availability: Weekends and weekedays with a week notice to get off work Preferred location: anywhere Provide your own gear? Yes Provide your own boat? No
  2. i just bought my first baitrunner, a shimano 12000 D and it is an amazing reel, runs really smoothly and also is very aesthetically pleasing. Shimano have been around for much longer and therefore i think have much more knowledge in reels and so fourth.
  3. daiwa demon blood. My mate has one for his Stella 20,000. When he bends it over and loads it up on the couch it pushes the couch along the ground. Such a strong, amazing rod
  4. Thanks for the recommendation, will note that down and go check it out
  5. dont do much jigging and i assume a 6-7 ft rod will work for jigging as well. More going to be live baiting and baiting compared to jigging though
  6. Looking to buy a new rod for use on boats around the $250 mark. It is to be paired with the new Shimmano Baitrunner 12000 with 60lb braid and will be used for big kings, jews, dollies and the odd small tuna. Has anyone got any suggestions or recommendations on any rods i should get? Thanks
  7. Went out to pitty this arvo with a mate of mine on his tinny. Our goal was a flatty or bream as well as going for kingies. Head over to the first squid spot but after a couple of flicks and no luck tried the next squid location. Still no luck headed over to our first actual location. Threw a fresh squid head out in hopes for kingies and then started trying for live bait. My mate was using some mullet and squid strips in the aim for some flatties or snapper. The squid head got chewed up by pickers and a few big hits were also put on it but no hook ups. With no live bait and no other action we went to our second and final location. Before we had even anchored we had spotted one kingie and a large school of yakas. My mate stuck to the squid strip and mullet which resulted in 2 snapper and a trevor whilst i threw out a live yaka on my new Shimano Baitrunner 12000D with 30lb braid hoping for a king. Kept on getting the occaisonal yakka and also managed to catch a small snapper on a bit of squid strip on a different rod. We both noticed the line on the baitrunner going around in circles and moving around a fair bit so we knew something was around. All of a sudden the rod buckled over and as i was pulling it out of the rod holder it got stuck and the rod went slack. Leaving the bait in the water the rod buckled over again and i had a solid hook up. With 4-5kgs of drag being taken by some short runs we both thought i had hooked up to a kingie maybe in the 70's zone. When i brought the fish to the surface my first reaction was what the f@#& is that ... oh woah its a john dory. Never expected them to fight that hard. Went 34cm which is not too big but was a new species for me so i was quite happy. Good relaxing day out on the water overall.
  8. okay then. i will just keep fishing and catch one via trial and error
  9. My mate was in forster with a gaff and was in the process of gaffing a 60cm + flatty from the break wall. First time he tried gaffing the fish it was deflected off the underbelly somehow but on the second gaff attempt it went straight through the head. AS the fish was being lifted out of the water it performed some sort of backflip roll off the gaff and fell straight back into the water. The line was cut on the rock during this process and it swam off from the event as though nothing had ever happened.
  10. I recently just bought a landbased kingy combo for around sydney. I have the shimano baitrunner d 12000 (i can use this offshore as well for the bigger fish) with 30lb braid for the rats and an additional spool of 60lb braid for the bigger fish. I have a 10ft wilsons fishing rod.
  11. i have caught a speaker down the bottom of Mc Cars creek road in the northern beaches. Had a bit of weight so i was excited thinking maybe a decent flatty but luck wasnt in my favour that night
  12. forgot about this post ... Had frozen pillies and baby squid on board but came up with a "cocktail" bait that seemed to be catching fish left right and centre. It contained 2 squid heads with tentacles and half a pillie. Push the head of one squid onto the hook followed by the half pillie and the second squid head. Theory was that any fish that didnt engulf it straight away but sucked the first squid head off we have to swallow the hook to get to the second squid head. Worked a treat as you can see XD
  13. okay i definately do not want to get fined.
  14. The colours is also a good location for them i have heard
