  1. addendum. I'm in the process of updating my Furuno 6100 and Rayethon 3 1\2 in colour screen sounders plus a Garmin GPS (Old. like me) What is a good. (Below around $1000) Combo unit to buy nowadays. That's reliable. O\S not worth it now the AU$ has dropped.
  2. Hi. B4 you kook at the price. Look at what fishing you going to\want to do. Then assess what boat size\type is needed to SAFELY do that. in your area. in your sea conditions. If you HAVE the dollars in your pocket (Not borrowing./) and where you want to be in life. Go for it. ANy boat in your minds range. If you have to borrow. Well. Myself. I'd join a local club. See what they use. AND WHY they use them. and get one to suit. A second hand 3 to 5 yr old Probably tinne AIn't much different to a new one nowadays. Unless it been thrashed. and a lot cheaper than new with extra's on it. My first fishing boat in this country was a stacer 4.2 with 30 Johnno on back. Had for tenish yrs. Next one was a SeaJay 4.5m. with 75 Merc. also ten yrs or so. This last one is an '02 Stacer 5.25 Bow Rider first with 75 Merc. Now a 90 Opti Again Merc. That'll probably be my last I'm 72 now. and all through those yrs I've also had Ocean Yachts. 34 ft and 42 ft. Both steel. In this country. Others in other country's prior to '73 when I arived here. My son (eldest) 47yrs. has the boat Still that I bought for him for his 20-th B.Day. 5 mtr tinny third engine, Again an Opti. They last forever. Find one size\type to suit you and just keep rebuilding trailers and updating motors. I just rebuilt my trlr last yr. '02, same yr as boat. Them with my rooftopper 2.75 and Yammie 15 will see me out. Last yacht I sold 5 yrs ago (crook knees). Buy a boat to suit your area and type of fishing you do. rather than price point.
  3. OK. Nobody else did. So I will. Thank's mate. everything you put into your brain through your or others experience. Will. One day. Come in handy. I'm 70+ and still learning most days There's always somebody knows more than you......
  4. Hi. If you want a neat job. Buy a set of good hole punches. Or just the ones you need. Set up on a block of hardwood and cut perfect circle every time. Inside and out. I actually use an adjustable Plier type hand punch for the centres. Cut the outer circle first. easier to locate centre for inner hole then.
  5. Hi. Can't help you with eggbeater sticks I only use proper reels for fishing. Basically a cheap one will cost in the $200 range. Mid range to $500ish. top line from $600 to well over a grand.. $350ish will buy a rod that will do 97% of your jigging. But you WILL end up with several line classes Go composite and Parabolic Action for comfort and less stress.(knocking it about)
  6. Hi. I had the Torium 30 and Saltist 30 high and low speeds. I've till got the Saltist 4.9. The Torium is long gone. When trying to grindin a fish from deep the Saltist had more that twice the winding power the Torium did. Plus though painted it didn't have plastic side plates like the Torium either. Regarding A\R bearing. Remove clean out and lube with light oil Sparingly. You'll have no more trouble with it. Saltist drag improved when you drop Carbontex or Smoothies in there too.Even my Saltiga's benefitted from it.
  7. No. You're improving them 1000%. Go for it.
  8. Hi. What fish\size first. I got 150 rod. Accurate 870. 250 rod Daiwa saltiga 30. 350 rod Saltiga 40 and a custom rod around 450 with either the Saltiga 50 lever 2spd. or a penn torque300. A rig around the 250 will do 90% of jigging. Accurate 500. Saltist\Saltiga 30. Penn torque200. or a cheapie AVET MXJ.All will do a good job. Prices vary.but the 200 Torque on sellout I bought 2.. Eggbeaters. Dunno. they toys.. 6lb and under in my eyes.
  9. No. But a bit of target practice from the Navy wouldn't go astray....
  10. No. But if you go and look on Ebay. I got my fish shaped 6 and 8lb Painted last yr for around $24\25 each They a 1000 times better than the round cannon balls. and you can bend ém slightly to make them travel öut" when you running a pr.
  11. Hi. If I was going Jigging. I'd keep the reel if it's a reasonable one. Around 4.9\5.2 to 1 with a decent drag.(you can upgrade that) and change the rod. 7ft is a popper stick not jig stick. I have around 5 or 6 jiggers. all below 6ft. 5 ft 6in even better.A decent PARABOLIC jig stick will make your jigging enjoyable But you do need to get fit. Try to borrow one first and try jigging. It's a love hate relationship. Bloody hard work regardless . But done properly with decent mid range geat an enjoyable days fishing. I do Outrigger canoeing in the surf for my fitness 6 blokes one canoe. Plus push bike and dumbells. Oh I'm 70 so age is no barrier. but fitness makes ALL the difference to a good day and Oh Shit. I won't do that again. And don't forget to use a hand grip spring unit. If you can't hold the rod you can't catch a fish. Watch how many keep swapping hands. flexing fingers. and just lean back having a rest. Get fit. Good grip. and you won't be one of them.
  12. Well. To carry on with this theme. Why not look at a proper reel and get an Inter... the AVET game reels are pretty good too.
  13. HI. Look up ABU reel parts in UK. I got a couple for my 7000 and a pr of 6500c3's coupla yrs ago. Think they were 5 UK pounds each incl freight.
  14. Hi. I've got a Cannon now. Use in deep dams and Spanno trolling. Prior to. For yrs. First a Paravane. Then a 6in Alvey. on a short butt section (Bent butt game stick butt I had. with a bit on end with a tip roller Works real well. I find the Fish shaped bombs are best. I made a mould for 6 and 8 lb After buying some on net fairly cheap ($25\35) The lighter ones drift back when trolling and you can't see them in sounder. When You can see what depth they are then you can add depth of whatever lure to that Helps keep ém in fish's zone.

    15hp motors

Hi. We got a Quinnie 3.75 Dart. with Yammie 15 2 stroke 100.1 fuel mix. Flies with one or two on board. fairly clean running at 100.1 Cheap to buy and maintain\repair. Lighter than 4 str. I'd buy another one tomorrow. All I do for slow trolling spinning for Barra etc. Is use my $350 electric on transom. Better than just a motor 4str or otherwise. and the pr together. Cost a lot less than any 4 str. I use mine mainly Darwin Harbour and Barra dams on way up there and back. 25ltr tank. Used every day. Can not empty in a weeks running\trolling. These efficient 2 strokes will live for a long time yet. I've got an Opti 90 on my Stacer Bowrider. Wouldn't have a 4 str on my boats. The twoéys are much more reliable. cheaper to run and a little cheaper to buy. Also look at all those moving little bits in a 4 str. Spinning at a zillion miles a second. No thank's.
