    Windang

A week ago, I caught 3 undersized Snapper in Windang. Quite interesting
  2. thanks for that. I will try coniston some time. I like finding new places to fish
  3. Just got back from a 2 hour session of fishing at the lighthouse aiming for bream with prawns. Not much to report except this fish that I caught. No idea what it is, can someone identify it for me? I probably won't reply for a while, getting ready to go to Melbourne for a birthday party then to Lake Eucumbine for some fishing fun for 3 days Davido
  4. nice catch mate, gotta get myself a PS2 controller for catching fish too i guess
  5. Went out to Corrimal beach and arrived at 5:30am, a long grooooooling 5 minute drive. Casted out around 5:45, using pilchards on gangs and pillie fillets on 4/0 circle hook (as a raider suggested i use) Around 7:20am i get my first hit, fairly big hit but didnt hook up. A few not very polite words later and raising a single fist at the sea, I baited up another fillet and casted out again. 10mins later while i was checking my other rod, my uglystick bent over and slammed on the ground out of its holder (not snapped just thrown on the ground by the fish). Quickly ran over and heard my drag going nuts. Pick the rod up and started to fight the fish. Seeing how heavy it felt on the rod i thought i should play it safe and just tire the fish out. Was an awesome sight to see since it was the first time i saw a fish jumping out of the water repeatedly. Finally 10-15mins later i tired him out and set my drag a bit higher and pulled him up the beach, fairly far away from the water just incase those low swells create a freak wave Here it is still alive and well, i quickly grabbed my fone and took a pic, if u look carefully u may see the hook and line still in Got em home and measured it up(tho i compared it to my rod holder which i mark out every 10cm a long it with legal fish sizes) Smashed my record of 46cm by 10cm. New PB of 56cm. Was definetly worth the early morning and long drive and sacrifice of no sleep to catch this one! now to do my uni assignment which is due tonite Davido
  6. Corrimal beach is alright(south of austimier) would tell you where a good gutter is but gutters changed recently in last few days and didnt check earlier so was fishin in a bad spot this morning but still produced a salmon. I reckon a good time to start for this saturday if you fish illawarra area maybe from 7am to 5pm. Im not a beach expert but its the times I would fish this weekend
  7. Nice stuff mate, fresh tailor is great. I went out this arvo to the beach but only caught a plastic bag.....
  8. Nice explanation. With that in mind, I do have one outfit that i call my "Bream Stick" and use it for targeting bream with bait. First thing i put together without getting a premade combo already spooled. Quite happy that it does its job catching Bream
  9. And i was thinking that I would never get the chance to fish that area
  10. I think i know the bank your talking about, what about that sand thats between the caravan park and the entrance(breakwalls)
  11. Yeah love to know a good place to get nippers and yabbies in wollongong area. At the moment Im giving a shot at collecting bait in Wollongong area so ill tell u if i get any good information.
  12. Tried metals once, funny story. I think there was a fracture in the line so when i casted, i just watched my metal lure fly away pretty far. Was an awesome sight to see while going "ahh, i just bought that....." I did tie it properly but i guess i didnt check my line. around the sizes of 2/0-4/0 ??
  13. At the moment for past few weeks, ganged hooks havent been a great success, only had biteoffs with them but using prawns on 2/0 baitholder has landed me 2 awesome salmon 45,46cm and a fair few flatties and 2 whiting. just yesterday, 5/9/2011 on corrimal beach been giving pillie fillets a shot, going to try your setup with them because my setup id either lose the bait on cast or been stripped of. But great to know they are atleast attacking it, and boy i had some strong tugs on it, many were to me rebaiting my surf rod while my other rod was out, missing multiple bites. I would turn my head and theres my rod head banging like crazy, and once i grabbed it, goes slack. I think i counted 6 times with pillie fillets and twice on prawns. Davido
  14. Went out fishing with my mate for an hour(4:30pm to 5:30pm) to a location where Ive never caught fish before. I agreed to go thinking I wouldnt catch anything and just have a good conversation but well I was suprised. Caught 2 nice black bream, first time too, usually catch yellow fin bream at windang. Mate started to brag saying "see see, you can catch fish here" while he had a suprise look on his face then added "man never knew you could catch bream here and look at that, bigger than what I ever caught"(referring to the first fish i caught). When I caught the 2nd fish, he was like "holy crap, thats a big one" and I was like "Farout this is heavy" while fighting it out of the snaggy areas. when i brought it out and held it in my hands i was like "OMG THIS IS BEAST" (yeah very excited) Both fish was caught using half prawns deshelled. 6lb main, 4lb fluro lead, size 0 sinker? something like that. This one measured in at 27cm, it WAS my PB for the bream species and its the first black bream ever caught BAM landed this one on my last cast before leaving because of many mosquitos came to have a play with us. Fish measured in at 33cm, new PB :thumbup:lol .... Heres the comparison of sizes and I was pretty excited. For 1 hour fishing, had a tonne of fun and more bragging rights against my mate. Couldnt stop rubbing it in because I always seem to catch fish on every outting and my friend hasn't caught anything in probably a month. Davido
  15. Nice catch there, I should get myself into black fishing. Looks fun
  16. Yes again I went fishing at the same spot for the 4th time, not much to report, only caught a Whiting but it was the first Whiting I ever caught, swallowed my 1/0 hook on the surf rod. I had my rod in the holder while I was using a lighter rod to try and land some flatties. Grabbed my surf rod to reel in to check if the bait was still there but was like "Hang on, there is a bit of weight to it and the line aint out sea but hanging at the beach all the way to my right" thought to myself "maybe it got tangled on my mates line." So i started to reel while watching my mates rod, then to my disbelief i saw something jumping out of the water. So I reeled it in and brought it up to the beach and went "Woah a whiting! niiiice!" Was the only fish caught that day although I saw some guy catch a Salmon on soft plastics around 4:30pm. Measured it at 28cm, may cook it up for lunch May hunt more whiting come summertime Davido
  17. All on bait, using frozen prawns. One on size 4 hook and 1/0 hook (baitholder).
  18. Nice stuff mate, Berowra sounds like an awesome place to fish from the reports I have seen, I should quickly fix my lil boat and go up there some time.
  19. Yeah when the "Freak" wave hit, my sambo fell out of my bucket and into my hat. Made me run around chasing sea gulls thinking they stole it. Came back to realise it was in my hat. Had a bit of a laugh then. Yeah I picked up a filleting knife after fishing, next flathead I get i will give filleting a go.
  20. Decided to go out fishing again but this time brought my tackle box with all the goodies and a mate. Started out at 3:30pm setting up the rods, 10' on 15lb, 12' on 20lb with 30lb lead both rods with 1/0 baitholder, 6'6" on 6lb and size 4 baitholder. Decided to use just prawns again today and i started off with the smaller rod while my mate used the 12' rod. Went into the water around up to my knees constantly casting and slowly retrieving. Around 4:30 got my first hook up, manage to score a PB flatty at 38cm on the light rod. Was great fun bringing it in. My mate scored a hookup around 1min after i brought mine up. He ended up with his first fish in 10years with a 37cm flatty. I started to brag abit about having a BIGGER fish. Around 5:00 i switched rods to the 10' baited up and casted out. A few mins later i saw some kids come by with their surf boards and started surfing close by and little by little came right under my friends line. I got a fair bit annoyed. But luckily their dad came by and told them off and took them away, my friend was about to go off at them. So around 6:00 i was reeling in slowly and felt my line going abit heavy then all of a sudden BAM hooked up, I was going "holy crap this feels heavy." Fought it for a few good minutes before it submitted defeat. Brought it up and measured it at 45cm, just under my PB by 1cm. Felt a bit heavier than the last Sambo I caught. Casted out 1 more time before a big wave came in all the way and washed up onto our gear. Ended up losing a fair bit of bait and my knife, saved the fish but didnt grab the gear quick enough before the wave hit. A bit worried about losing the knife, went looking everywhere for it with the light but i guess it got washed into the sea. If anyone goes to fish near the surfclub at corrimal, be aware of a knife with wooden handle. I hope no one hurts themselves on it, may have a look for it tomorrow. First time gutting and scaling a flatty was interesting, gave them to my mate to cook up tomorrow for dinner and i took my sambo home Davido
  21. Nice catch mate, I should give blackfishing a shot too aye.
  22. Yeah I usually leave my light gear in the car if i feel like a breaming sesh Yeah i asked a while back about fishing sambos. I used a bad setup which turned out great. Forgot most of my gear at home so did wat i could with what i got. Had a running sinker to the hook on the main line. Using 15lb line. After a while i just went "ill try this" and tied the sinker 30cm above the hook. Seem to do the job, not proud of it but it got results. Went for a fish today at corrimal beach again, using pillies on gangs with wire trace with 20lb main line and my other rod with prawns trying out 30lb mono lead and 15lb mainline. Everytime i grabbed the other rod and turned away for abit, i missed a hookup. Might stick to 1 rod with 15lb mono lead using prawns and pillies.
  23. nice one mate, just look at those teeth!
  24. Pretty excited to catch my very first Salmon, unplanned too. Also caught my first flathead on the same day It all started with a bad day at Uni, got 50% on an assignment and felt abit blue. Went home around lunch time and started calling up friends to see if they wanted to go for a fish. All declined. As I sat there thinking to myself 'should I go fishing??' and then said 'why not?'. This decision came by at around 4pm so I quickly grab a rod and bucket and jumped in the ute. While driving I thought yeah I'll go buy some prawns and go to the beach and see if I can catch a bream. As I got the beach and found a somewhat decent gutter, I started to prep up and realised i forgot to bring some swivels and lead. So I thought 'hmm what to do, might as well give it a shot with everything on the main line.' Did that and started to cast a few, rebated a few times and waited. After an hour around 5pm 'ish' I decided I should tie the sinker 30cm above the hook seeing if it my chance may increase. AND IT DID!!! Caught my first Flathead, seeing as it was my first flatty, I didn't know how to handle it. Ended up getting %%%%%ed a few times. Caught the flatty while doing a slow/medium retrieve. I estimated the fish to be around 24cm and threw him back...... twice, first time was bad and he washed up on the beach so I picked him up and carried him further into the sea and let it swim out my hands. After I caught the flatty, I had a boost of confidence knowing I'm casting in the right area since I'm fishing solo and still quite fresh on the beach fishing scene. Seeing that I caught the flatty on a retrieve I thought maybe the fish out there wants a bit of action. So I quickly ran to my bucket, baited up and casted out. 2-3 casts later BAM!! I'm hooked. I was like 'WOAH THIS IS HEAVY..... please don't be seaweed, oh god please dont be seaweed..... YES MY DRAG IS GOING NUTS'. As I reeled in slowly adjusting my drag (I set my drag fairly low and seemed to have worked for me) started to bring the fish in. I quickly dragged it up and out of the water, picked it up by the line and the line snapped. I was like 'Thank god this didn't happen when I was dragging it up the beach.' At first I thought it was a tailor seeing that it was night time(My excuse for being newbie). Quickly bled it, gut it, scaled it, as the advice I was givin to me from people. Seeing that it was dark and I had no light and lacked gear I called it. Wish i brought my tackle box and a torch Measured the Salmon at 46cm, brought it up to my ute to get a tape measure. Was pretty happy at the beach yelling out "yeww" and laughing out loud. First time going out to beach alone, first time catching a fish on the beach, first time catching a flathead and salmon. All this from unplanned fish session that was quite spontaneous, made my crappy day to a happy day Davido ----->> Forgot to mention Location: Corrimal Beach Outfit: 10' Uglystick, pen560 slammer, 15lb line
  25. I can sort of relate with internationals coming to australia for a holiday/study and go for a swim at the beach. But Im just pointing that out due to the victims in the article and their background.
