  1. If ur targetting the bread and butter species in the surf, i wouldnt be using star sinkers and anchoring your baig in one spot of the gutter, or elsewhere. Use long leader, size 2-4 baitholder and a running ball sinker (size depending on swell, and obviously if swell is too rough it becomes much harder) and a fresh prawn for bait, this will get bream,, if u want whiting use worm hook, abd beach worms, tube worm etc... and same set up. Let your rig move around, not just in the gutter. Cast out into the gutter and let your rig move wherever it wants to go, and manage your line. If it comes back to the bank, reel back in and cast it out again. Keep moving around and cover ground. Holding to one spot for bread and butter species will just limit your time in the 'zone' When beach fishing i always look for gutters and holes and target them first, if i cant get what im targetting for i always move. When starting beach fishing i used to whack on a big star sinker and patternoster gang pilly, and aim it into the gutters, at times ill get the fish, but i used to spend hours with bait in the gutter only to hook onto nothing. Move around, youll find fish better.
  2. Live bait: tube worms, prawns, nippers Small ball sinker wig with small weights and long trace, size 4 worm hook or long shank Running up tide You can fish of the groynes casting with the current, and let ur rig drift and feel the bites Ive seen lots of whiting caught here and also flathead, but i do know trevalley, pinkies, bream can be caught here aswell. It wouldnt hurt to use some burley aswell if ur fishing in one spot.
  3. You can buy burley scoops at the campsie tackle store. Perfect for throwing out burley in any kind of system. Comes in different lengths and sizes, it relly lets you peg those burley bombs out as close or far as you want, as long as the consistency is right.
  4. If ur targetting bream. A simple old crummed bread, sand, and sea water mixed into a good paste that can ball up. In still waters it will drop straight down and slowly disperse brining in bream big and small. An small lead weight or no weight at all into the area where you burleyed withh get you onto some. With running waters slow drift would be good with minimal weights. Or even a small light weith pencil float. As for bait, use whatever ur burlying with, so some fresh white bread on a small size 8 hook will do the job. Just let the current take line and feel for the bite. Target a single species and then burley for them, instead of mixing everything old n smelly together.
  5. How insore were you guys fishing. Rock drummer in hacking? Damn, shows how clean the water is down that way. Was this in still clear waters of the hacking?
  6. Ah right. Yeah id thought they'd be in schools due to the on and off multiple hook ups in a short amount of time. Mabe i shouldve burleyed more to keep them concentrated in the area., but all in all im happy with the end result. its nice to sometimes sit back and take in the ocean while the bites off. (not really) haha. Hey mate, was using the thicker leaves of sea cabbage. The thinner parts of the cabbage seemed to not get any hits.
  7. Went for a quick morning blackfish off the stones this monday morning. Upon arrival at 530 am with a predicted swell of 1.2m on a rising tide peaking at 1030, i was abit weary on the location and the conditions on the day because of similar conditions at the same spot have seen and herd of a few people getting put on their rear side. After watching from the cliff edge while waiting for a mate conditions were pritty good and fishable. With an overcast cloudy day, minimal winds, lots of turbalence and white wash right infront of our rock platform conditions were perfect! Anyways started fishing from 0700-0830 the fish would come and go with both of us hooking up within moments of each other, and then it would go quite, and then we would be on again. We ended up with 8 keepers split between the both of us, and released the rest. we caught many little blackfish that were putting up a hell of a fight for their little size. . Its been a while since i was able to head out for a session off the rocks for luderick, and it felt good when a plan came together. It felt good to feel the 'thump thump'. Thanks for reading!
  8. Have had a shimano cazna almost a year now. Doesnt feel as plasticy as the sienna, and it has great smooth drag and casts really well with the extra slant on the spool lip using braid. I used it for mostly sp lure fishing. Its spooled with 6 lb braid and is in 2500 size. Its not bad for its price, and would recommend it over the sienna. Just make sure no sand gets in it or gets soaked in salt water. A good quick rinse with tightened dragafter use would be good. If ur just starting off theres nthing wrong with the sienna as ive seen some decent sized kings caught on them in the size 2500 reel while light spinningoff rocks, so it is a little mighty reel aswel. Its up to your preference, look at them both and see what u like. Both work very well and if taken care of, can last a while. I had the choise of either and i chose the cazna and not looking back.
  9. Hey guys , Ive been fishing for luderick with good results off the rocks of easternsuburbs. I would burley by scraping cabbage off rocks with the cleats. As for river luderick ( parra river, georges, cooks) i was wondering if scraping the green weed of the rocks and using it for burley is effectiv? Im talking about the green carpet short type of weed found along all rocky forshores of these rivers. I know long string weed would be best finely choped and sand mixed, but just wanted to know if the carpet greeny weed is effective in any way? It seems as if this weed is really really short string weed, as some areas are really really short, and some are starting to gain length. Wanted to get into river luderick fishing as its closer to home plus the kiddies. I have a few spots sussed out but not yet have had a go. Any tips would be appreciated aswell!
  10. There are some super high quality pfd originating from japan and korea which have integrated pockets for your little tackle gadgets and that. Only place i know that has them is campsie tackle store. Very high quality stuff but not inflatable. Also very handy with the additional pockets. Brands include nissin, daiwa, shimano, HDF. Not common in AUS, but very effective.
  11. It is ay, on first sight thaught of a brea...... Nope its a tarwine! I usually catch small baby ones, but never as big as this before. In future will be letting them swim, both bream and tarwine. Only kept em for the mrs. I was hoping to land a smaller bream for the table but it didnt show up, so its a shame the big girls had to end up on the plate. Im real keen on catch n release.
  12. Went for a quick session this morning. started fishing at 545 finished at 830. berleyd hard with sand bread tunaoil and string weed. Was in search of bream, drummer, ludrick. bait: white bread, string weed. Used a blackfish rig with 12 lb fc leader, size 8 mustad. First spot didnt produce any downs what so ever so i moved 100m near some structure and continued to burley. Love that feeling of striking on a down. Dropped the first fish due to poor netting skills, and landed one tarwine (340mm), and a bream (380mm) both on bread. Also missed allot of downs. Heres some pics!
  13. Hey mate i baught it a few months ago. But they always have a kayak sale. Ifnur patient wait, if not hurry into the boating camping fishing store for the sit on top kayak cos it seems a better quality than the other ones at the 'snake' store. Good luck!
  14. use dto go ther all the time when i was younger. 10 years ago. allots changed, resorts being built, no access to big dunes, some of the smaller dunes are flattened out, just not the same. but for fishing, cant really advise about times, tides, moon etc..... but last time i was there caught flatties, bream and salmon on pilchard cubes, simple running sinker rig. the salmon were literally jumping out of the water 20 meters away from us, and the was in the middle of winter. bring some slugs n mettals and mabe light gear to play with the salmon. sorry i cant give you tips on jews n that, but is a great days fishing. you wont go home dissapointed if you use simple methods and know what your doing. good luck! tell us how you go! fished middle of day on rising tide, in a gutter. you could literally see schools of slmon in the waves, and schools of whiting in the shallows. cant wait to go back! cheers, Sean221
  15. ive had a look around for some cheap fishing kayaks around sydney. for around300-350 theres a sit ontop kayak that you can set up your own rig with rod holders and what not. seemed prity good for its price. its at a boating camping and fishing store if u know what i mean. also i baught a sit in kayak and put flush rod holder in it cost 250 which is pritty good for a first yak. this was at a store named after one of the biggest snakes in the world. if u know what i mean. wait for sales and that and im sure u can get a good deal. dont forget to add paddles to that price which is around30-100 bucks. and a life vest 30-100 aswell. goodmluck! -Sean221
