  1. Combining fishing licence is a great idea, if people catch undersize fish and get caught... they lose their car/boat/fishing licence. Hopefully it scares the sh!t out of people and stop these bad habbits.
  2. Hi all, is 12mile closer to launch from rose bay or botany bay? is it close to any other reef like peak etc? many thanks

  6. Hi all, I am new to boating and would love some pointers on fishing spots for kingfish and squid around sydney harbour and middle harbour. I only know split bridge for squid but they are pretty small in size, and heard around shark island is good for kings? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance. Cheers, Pod
  7. Hi all, I just bought a Garmin echomap 50 and have no experience with sonar/gps before so totally new. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I drive around looking at temp, depth, and colour around Botany bay and the heads. What I am trying to figure out is the difference between reef reading and everything else random. How to find a good spot to fish on the sonar? Many thanks, Regards, Pod

    Knots and tips

Hi all, I am new to game fishing and currently have braid setup on all my reels. This is my current setup, please correct me and any advice would be greatly appreciated. 80lb Braid Mainline --> FG knot to 200lb leader --> Bimini Twist to swivel on the Pakula lure or Rapala x-rap (which is premade with 200lb leader) Question: 1. Can I just do Bimini Twist directly from my braid mainline? as the lure already has a leader. 2. Watched on youtube some guy saying poor-mans Bimini(surgeons knot) is better as 1 line snap the 2nd is not affected, whats the difference between the two knot and which is better? Lastly how to switch lures out faster? do I put a snap on the end of my 200lb leader to easily attach/remove the swivel on the lure leader? Many thanks in advance and sorry for the newbie questions. Regards, Pod
  9. Hi all, I know some may say never use Braid for big fish / game fishing, is this true? if so why not? I am new to game fishing and currently have braid setup on all my reels. 10. Thank-you all for your experienced feedback, I just mentioned Browns and Heaton as an example as I did not know how far out it was hence my question. Now knowing I would never wonder that far until I am experienced and with a good crew, I'll try 1-2Km out to test the boat and gain some experience trolling around the waves etc. Might troll to long reef or FADs and go from there, I have no idea how to get there yet or how to even set the GPS to get there on the garmin echomap 50... so wont be doing anything silly so please do not worry. I was more after tips on offshore fishing, cheers.
  11. 5.5m Fibreglass with 90HP 2stroke brand new with radio, gps, 125L underfloor fuel tank, fishfinder, lights, compass, safety equipment etc.. wow 50 nm... omg that would take like 3hrs? forget heaton then, I heard browns is 30km out? Up for any other suggestions.
  12. Hi all, Getting the new boat next week and was planning to head out offshore for a fishing session, would greatly appreciate all advice and thank-you in advance: I've got all safety equipment for offshore and will register my epirb on the day I get the boat, I've got boat licence with a few hours experience. 1. Heaton/Browns Mountain (how many Kms / nM out? and is it safe for a beginner to head out to these markers?) 2. What is the safest wind/swells for a comfortable ride? I don't have much experience so would like to stick to recommendations. 3. Heard alot of leather jacket snipping lines, anywhere to avoid this? 4. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated, I'll be trolling all the way out and will use livebait on one side of the boat while jigging on the other side. Going with a few people so I am not alone. Many thanks, Cheers, Pod
  13. thank-you all for your informative feedback, I've taken serious consideration about my safety and my family/friends and the public and have bought a new 4x4 AWD which can tow 3T, so no longer a problem. Goodbye Euro... Regards, Pod
  14. The dealer just weighed the boat on a weighbridge and said he got the paper of the total boat and trailer + motor, electrical coming up with 1040kg. (without any fuel) so it will fall just under the limit with fuel. I wouldn't travel far interstate or anywhere over 100km away from home while towing, mostly just to the local boat ramp. Is it safely doable and easy? or should I look into getting a Challenger 4x4 or something similar?
  15. Thanks for the advice guys, the boat is around 550kg (Baysport 545). Will definately weigh it but need advice is its ok to tow such capacity. Honda Accord Euro 2009 Can someone suggest a weighbridge in sydney near rockdale/botany. Can I ask the dealer to weigh it before I take it home? or thats something extra with fees? many thanks,
  16. Hi all, Is it ok/safe to tow just below a cars max towing capacity? mine is a 2.4L 2wd sedan with 1200kg towing capacity. towing a 5.5m fibreglass with 90hp 2stroke. The dealer and a mate said the car can tow it ok without any problems, just want more opinions. Many thanks, Regards,
  17. many thanks loco for your informative check-list, very detailed. you just have a padlock in coupling for the trailer at the boatramp and at home? I was thinking of getting a klamp-it so just wondering what other security/safety things you have to secure your trailer and boat? cheers,

    Paikea's decal

damn nice, just wondering where did you get them from?
  19. Hi all and congrats Trung & crew. Just got a few questions as I am new to boating and big fish, I've been doing some research and wondering should I get a Tiagra or spinning reel like biomaster/saragosa. Is a Tiagra a must have for big game fishing? can it be done with a spinning reel like Stella SW 20000 or something similar in the spinning reel range? As I have no clue how to use baitcaster and heard its a pain to use for inshore or anything that doesn't require trolling. Can baitcaster still be used on rocks/wharf/inshore lakes/rivers etc? as trolling is not the only type of fishing I'll be doing but would like to still catch some beast Many thanks in advance for the tips, Regards,
  20. Hi all, I am also new to boating and would like to know if anyone has a quick checklist of things to check before launching etc? I know someone that had ear plugs in their motor and drove around all day and only noticed it at the end of the day... Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance
  21. I normally post freebies on www.postads.com.au as I always see them fundraising for my local hospitals.
  22. Pier 2, blue points reserve, balmoral best views, relaxing, nice environment, access to restaurants and shops, nice people and plenty of fish.
  23. Hi, A few of us is planning to hit pittwater on a boat hire this Saturday from http://www.barrenjoeyboathire.com/ They have a limit from west head to barrenjoey, cannot cross into opening water. We chasing all type of fish, mainly targeting kings if there is any. The issue is sunrise is 5:30 tomorrow and boat hire starts at 6:30, so would like to know if its too late to go for kings after sunrise? we will get everything ready, once hit out drop squid and yellowtail rig with burly. catch some live bait and try it around barrenjoey head. If anyone could give out good spots in pittwater would be great, cannot pass points mention above, so cant go to lion island etc unless you can recommend me a different boathire that can I heard scotland island is very good for all types of fishing including kings? worth hanging out around here over barrenjoey? How do you rig squid for live bait? same as yellowtail? weight or noweight? do you need with float on boat? Many thanks to answering all these questions, greatly appreciate it Cheers,

    Balmoral

Hi, I took the kids to both Balmoral and Cliftons one day after the other, he loved it eventhough we didn't catch anything but he loved the playground nothing at cliftons 2 weeks ago, 4hrs at balmoral and only saw one guy caught a huge flathead, 1 guy missed a huge king. Cheers,
  25. Np, the swells/wind is looking good for a nice fishing day this Saturday. Maybe head to a rock fishing place if you got the right safety gear. I guess it depends what time you go and all, maybe try Pier 2? i was there a few days ago, nothing as i was fishing mid day for fun and enjoying the nice breeze and view. But it was much more relaxing and nicer place to fish, i had plenty of space to myself, can sit down or lay down or even sleep haha. If you want a more productive spot maybe check out the fishing post by brettman, but be-careful though and always go with someone and have cleats/life jacket. Hope that helps, cheers.
