    Hydrofoil help needed

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the late reply (I've just finished a week of night shifts) Antony thanks for the generous offer but if I go down the hydrofoil path I'll get ones designed for my motor, thanks again. I've been running smart tabs. Had a look at them yesterday and realised the shocks had broken. I've replaced them and going to go out tomorrow to give them a run. 1.5 m swell with 6 second period should give me some idea if it's improved. Rick I have a 4 blade 17 solas prop so I think I'm on the right path there. I've only had a tiller steer tinny up to 3 years ago so still learning. Plethora I've had a lot of people tell me exactly what you said...that's why I'm a bit confused. John thanks for the video it gives me a better idea of how to use them properly, Quick question I think both of the boats you mentioned carry the v hull through to the back where mine flattens out. Does this make a difference to maintaining plane speed in slop?
  2. I have a 5.3m Haines prowler with a 115 Yammy 4 stroke. It's a little heavy in the arse end and when the sea is sloppy it can get bogged down under 15 knots. I'm considering buying a hydrofoil. I was wondering if anyone else had gone down a similar path and if it improved performance.
  3. Do you know how deep you're going to be fishing? If the current is up and the fish are holding down low you might need some heavier jigs. Also don't be afraid of using the jigs when you're targeting the snapper
  4. I feel your pain, I've had plenty of those sessions. Only advice I can give is for whiting don't pause on the retrieve while for bream pauses work. Good luck
  5. Hi mate Just had a look on the swap and sell, nothing is posted there.

    Sea Anchors

Once again thanks for the info. I'm going to give the funnel one a go. Sounds like all things fishing trial and error (hopefully not too much error) is the way to go. Thanks Costa

    Sea Anchors

Thanks for all the advice guys..I'mglad I asked. Final question. When tying off the bow how much rope do you let out and os the aim to have the boat at 45 degrees to the drift or do you have the drogue under the boat?

    Sea Anchors

When I used a mates I had it placed directly behind the motor. Is that correct. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

    Sea Anchors

Thanks for the advice guys. I just want to slow my drift down by a km or 2. I have a 5m fg boat so might try the ones recommended for 6m boats.

    Sea Anchors

Thanks for the offer it's really kind. I've seen the funnel ones for sale around the $30 mark so they're not very expensive. I guess my question is do the funnel ones actually make a difference to your drift speed or should I just bite the bullet and by a parachute
  11. Not sure about low light periods. I'm usually fishing 30 - 60 metre mark, so the light at that depth isn't great anyway. I guess you could try the glow plastics

    Sea Anchors

I'm looking at buying a sea anchor and trying to choose between the funnel shape or parachute type. I'm leaning towards the funnel shape (approx. $200 cheaper). Does anyone use them and do they work or does the old adage ring true 'You get what you pay for'
  13. I've fished a patternoster style rig for snapper using an occy jig style lure as the 'sinker' and a 5 or 7 inch plastic above on a weedless hook using 20lb leader. I put the rod in the rod holder and let the swell do the work. It definitely works.
  14. The lagoon tends to go a bit quiet with all the people and stand up paddle boarders over the school holidays. If you're determined you can walk over to the northern side during low tide and fish the channel for bream, trevally, flathead and possibly whiting. Pump nippers if you can otherwise any of the usual baits. The beach fishes like most beaches. The gutters near the little island normally work best for salmon and tailor. I normally use strips of squid
  15. Thanks for the responses guys. I use to melt the end of the leader also but I've stopped smoking now so rarely have access to a lighter. The knot still hasn't failed.
  16. What do you think the half hitches actually do. As far as I can tell their only purpose after the initial locking of the knot is to keep the line straight. Any thoughts?
  17. I'vebeen using the FG knot for many years now. I used to finish it with around 20 pairs of half hitches. As I get older (and lazier) I've dropped that down to 10. My question is is there any reason to tie all those half hitches as the strength of tbe knot comes from the wraps biting into the leader? I'd also be interested to know how many half hitches others tie?

    Bonito

Hey mate It was off a boat trolling rapala red heads on Wednesday. Couldn't get the lures in fast enough. I didn't try the Kurnell side but if you're land based I'd imagine they'd be on that side also

  20. Hi Crossfire Thanks for the info about mono. I've only been beach fishing for a couple of years so I was genuinely interested. I haven't had any problems with abrasion resistance (same braid for the last two years).I have noticed the sinker letting go when there is a lot of water movement and definitely had problems with blue bottles. Looks like I'm going to have to give mono a go and compare the difference.
  21. Likewise. I'm just curious if there is any advantage to using mono in the surf? So many people swear by it.
  22. At the risk of starting an argument...Is there any reason you don't want to use braid in the surf? Allows for a much smaller reel with the 250-300m of line capacity you're after.
  23. Sorry should have mentioned they are carbontex washers. Thanks for the link. I think I'll lightly grease the washers.
  24. Hi all I'm servicing my biomaster and am not sure if the top drag is wet or dry (no grease). Does anyone know?
