  1. a familiar cry!! Sometimes they just don't want to play... We were at Balmoral Sat morning and got 6 yakkas real quick but then the wised up and couldn't raise another. Just had one of those 6 hook jigs (4 is better - less time spent re-baiting) with bread on them. Burleyed with bread to get them in a frenzy and dropped the jig amongst 'em. Apparently squid are attracted to the fish/burley etc so I suggest next time you're there and going for yakkas, put out a jig or 2 on a paternoster rig and send it down off the back of the boat. Concentrate on the yakkas and the squid should play the game. Espec if you have egimax - good stuff apparently.
  2. I've got the Symetre 2500 - had it for over a year and still very smooth. Just bought a 4000 for bigger work. Nice reels at a great price. Should be able to get 'em for $140, if not cheaper....
  3. The harbour is only a short spurt up from the Port - flat seas and a full tank and you can get here easy! Forecast is looking good this weekend, so hopefully something to report next week.... gotta love the weekends tight lines all
  4. Nice one Lew. When me and a mate were out prob 3 weeks ago we (he, actually!) caught a couple of these on the troll past South Head. First one was a little'un about 40 or so, but he had a slightly bigger brother that went 60 to the fork. Not much fight, but kicked a bit when he saw our ugly mugs! So they are around.....
  5. will be there Sat or Sun. Looking for a few accessories for the boat, so hopefully there will be some bargains... Anyone know how much it is to get in?
  6. try this site: http://www.dpreview.com/ Yank site, but can compare a large range of cameras, choose a camera by selecting the features you want etc. Got full reviews of plenty of cameras. Here's a tip - buy online if you can as you will save $$$. Here or here are good places to shop. Bought from both and saved heaps with delivery very quick (1 or 2 days)....

Hey Mitch, will sell you my spare patch for $50
  8. Unfortunately yes! The ONLY jews I have caught have all been around 40cms! Caught 6 one morning and biggest went 43cm, smallest about 35cm. Was stoked as I had never caught a jew before. Bit small I know, but have never targetted them so can't complain.
  9. Good luck mate. Be sure to post a report. Interesting DVD that Jewfish Secrets - had a distinct lack of jews caught!! Good info, but I thought the purpose of a fishing DVD that targets a particular species was to actually SHOW plenty being caught!!!
  10. great first post blythey - not......
  11. I bought a couple when I saw them catching flatties on Fishing WA ( sucker!!) Haven't done me any good so far... you'd think a flattie would eat 'em though...
  12. Hey Jewel - interesting that you mention these things. I bought a pack of 2in Bulky hawgs and haven't had ANY success to date. I rig 'em with a worm hook, but they seem too light to chuck any distance, and have also dropped them off the side of a boat and nothing has touched 'em (when they have taken other SP's). How do you rig them up? What colours too? Cheers HHH
  13. Saturday will be heading north to Hat Head for a weeks fishing with a couple of mates so hope to put up a good report in a couple of weeks...

    The Budget

Hmmm, I think Howard will stand at the next election and then hand over to Costello. Libs can't risk losing votes by having Costello as the leader. Doubtful that labour would win against Costello given their utter ineptitude, but they would have a better chance if Costello was opposing them. For some reason, the electorate loves John Howard - must love liars BTW, I think it was his 11th budget, but who's counting
