We got our fill of gemmies in a few drops on sunday then spent the next few hours feeding them to makos. Had a ball on fish up to 150. Just fed a gemmie head down about 50m and didnt have to wait ling each time.

Great fish on light gear

We got 3 at 33-41 and dropped a couple more on the troll about 7-8nm ENE of browns from a small patch of fish. Saw two fish in the 60's weighed at sgfc and the chat was the fish were 15-20nm ENE in better numbers than we saw but a lot of boats missed them today. Lots of sharks at the mountain making deep dropping very hard

I fished kandavu last year and jm fallings jigs did the trick on doggies and the sinking aswb stickbaits outfished poppers by at least 5-1

Long rods hurt anglers not fish.

I used to use a cage but ive lost a few fish around the rope so after watching how the usa tuna fishermen drop there cubes down to beat the birds i figured it should work with pellets. Small amounts fairly regular at different depths. Its pretty much a cage with an open bottom with the weight on the top and water pressure holds the burley in on the way down then you stop it at the desired depth.

Fish either very early or last light into the night for snapper. Drifting with baits on the bottom will get you the odd fish but if you really want to target bigger snapper then anchor up and put out a burley trail of pillie cubes and some pellet style burley down deeper. Fish floater baits down the trail on light line 4-8kg. Sometimes it can take a few hours of burley to get fish up into mid water feeding in your trail but stick with it as it pays off when a hot bite starts. Most guys fish in close 10-30m during spring or staight after big seas but if you concentrate in the 30-80m and fish a tide change around dawn with about 1-2hrs of burley in the water things will start to go your way. Moon can play tricks with snapper also but i'm not sure how all that works yet. My best fishing has been on the build up to the full moon not the two weeks after it. I have never used the sensor surf but I have the rlf49 and it's an animal. I use it to spin garfish for kings with 50lb.

I wouldn't risk it. If you think off all the costs that go into chasing marlin and then risk losing a fish due to not having a quality forged game hook like the 7691s its just not worth it. You just can't cut corners in game fishing

By becoming a rod builder you are about to possibly develop a new addiction. For me it started about 15 years ago and now well over 500 rods later i suppose its an addiction of sorts. A few handy tools to have straight up are. small scissors like braid scissors a craft or hobby knife tape measure ruler masking tape white pencil this will get you started but other tools may come along if you get into it. A couple of tips before you start that might help are. always have a few small squares of masking tape handy to hold down thread if you have to release pressure at any time don't use anything like metho or turps anywhere near your epoxy try and find brushes that don't have animal hair as they produce bubbles when mixing. and the best tip i was ever given was to mix your epoxy on aluminium foil over a coffee cup then throw it away so there is no chance of contaminating your next mix. hope you have fun

Hi all, im having some trouble with targeting squid and therefore kings in sydney harbour and botany. I was hoping one or two of you out there might be able to help as its starting to get frustrating. I don't currently have a downrigger but its on the wish list however i have more top quality gear than you could poke a stick at and fish from a quinnie top ender 480 with a yammie 4st 80 on the bum. Boat and motor are 2006 and well serviced and looked after. What i would like is if anyone could show me the ropes targeting squid/kings fishing from my boat. All i ask is a share of fuel and a willingness to have a good time and hopefully peg a few nice fish. Cheers fisho.

Hi mate, I'm using a 900 series hummingbird on my 480 top ender and I loose a decent picture at about 6-8 knots too. It works better in the fresh but once I'm up and planing I've got nothing. It's not a massive issue coz once I'm in the general area I want to fish I'm usually only doing a few knots sounding around and the pic is great. I am having some problems with the temp gauge ATM

Hi all, i fished lake Windamere for the first time from the 3-5 jan with 2 mates and although the fishing was a little slow we had a great time. Day 1.. Saw us arrive at the dam mid arvo and after setting everything up we hit the water for a fish about 5pm. I had a couple of light taps using a gold jackall but after switching to a 1/2oz olive spinnerbait i got a solid hit and came up tight on my first fish which turned out to be a respectable 48cm. No pics of this one as all camera gear was left at camp. Day 2.. On the water at 5am a little scratchy after a few beverages with the boys the night before and we fished hard for only 1 aggressive catty for the morning session.Back to camp by midday to escape the heat and listen to the aussies start to pile on the runs. Back onto the dam at 5 after it cooled down a little and we fished a few shallow bays that were chock full of weed and hard to fish but we persisted and came up with a little cod of 45cm which although small was my mates first ever freshwater fish and we were all stoked. We had a short troll after dark on the way home and i picked up a smallish yella of 42cm. Day 3.. After a bit of a sleep in we started fishing around 8am and it was already getting hot but we pushed on knowing it was our last day. After a few follows from some big fish i finally came up tight on a ripper of a yella and after a nice fight slipped the net under a new pb for me at 58cm. This was the only fish for the day again but we pulled the pin around midday and headed back for a relax and some cricket before packing up and heading home. I'm not sure why the dam was a little hard, maybe it was the 2000+ people that were there only a couple of days earlier or a variety of weather conditions but we had a ball and will be going back very soon.
