  1. Looks awesome mate... fresh wholesome food. LUV IT ! Cheers Zoran
  2. Hey Raiders, I'll keep this report short. My buddy Wayno has really been missing his flathead feed so with COVID restrictions easing we decided to hit the flattie grounds off Barrenjoey on Sunday. I had a close family dinner on Saturday (combined double birthday and wedding anniversary) - I knew that food and drink would be a plenty but still thought Sunday would be ok - after all the weather was supposed to be calm, 1m seas, >10kts winds etc -- all looked good. We hit Parsley bay at 6.15am, and joined the queue to launch - it was busy - I put Wayno at the helm, dropped the rig in the water and headed to park the car and trailer ---- wow, did I say it was busy - I got the LAST trailer parking spot ! Out we raced to the 40m mark, it was sloppy and choppy. I am sure the seas were 1m somewhere, but not at Barrenjoey wide. Anyway, first two drops I pulled up a 3ft and then 4ft shovelnose. Both hooked in the gob, hooked though a fin - I think I spent way too much looking down separating gear from sharks - Hmmm - and then for the first time since 2011 I felt that dreaded green feeling 🤢 . In the meantime, Wayno was pulling in juveniles. So out we go to the 50m mark. We drop down and I bring in a decent bluespot flattie over 40cm but now feeling 🤢🤢. Then another two over 50cm - now feeling even more 🤢🤢🤢 (no amount of heavy breathing was helping). Wayno was still tangling with juveniles - the day was not looking good. Long story short, I managed to clear some internal pressure, felt a tad better and we headed back to 40m to try a different drift . The top of the tide came around 10am, and bang we found the larger models on the bite. Wayno landed his only solid keeper (he obviously had the wrong side of the boat that day) but by 11am we had 9 bluespot in the bag all between 55-65cm and 3 octopi to boot. I am stumped where the octopus are coming from as the grounds we drift across are all gravel/sand - but we caught them in this area on the last trip as well. All in all, it ended up being a top day on the water, despite me feeling absolutely miserable for most of it. Anyway, I didn't take any pictures of the day (due to my delicate condition), however here's a snap of my share of the spoils: 1kg fillets and 450g of octopus. Cheers Zoran
  3. Well done all around ... top job on the garden, top job pleasing the Mrs and TOP JOB on the fish - you have really worked out the Sydney schnapps ! Cheers Zoran
  4. Great feed. Shame about the big one. We were due to go out today but deferred to tomorrow- here’s hoping they’re still out there ! cheers Zoran
  5. Hey Sam, yes they are very good eating - with medium to firm white flesh - large flakes - delicate flavour. They look a bit daunting and 'cuda-ish ... so you'd think they would be oily and poor eating but surprisingly that's not the case. I've had some fisho mates report that they can be "mushy" - I've never had one like that - maybe they just didn't ice them down for the long day and trip back. FYI, they command a high price in fishshops - usually sold as fillets and often called hake. Maybe we have to go out one day and deep-drop with the electrics so you can have a chew ! Hey @Blackfish, @masterfisho7 and @Rebel .. thanks for the comments. Yup play around with the ingredients to get the taste and consistency that you like ... we grow many of our own herbs and chilis and have a Kaffir lime and a Lime tree in the back yard - using fresh ingredients really makes dressings come to life. The only comment I had from Maria was I should have made more drizzle - we left a bit to try in the fish and it was delish - would have been great to have a little pot on the side ! Cheers Zoran
  6. Gday Raiders, Whipped this up the other night and got two thumbs up from my very own chef and food critic - my dear wife ! I had planned to cook our last Gemmie fillets (time for another Brown's sesh me-thinks) and was looking for a Thai-style flavour coz we were both missing venturing out to our favourite Thai haunts. Thai Style Salad Dressing/Drizzle (the quantities are the ratio I used, adjust for the volume you need) 2 tsp Palm sugar 2 tsp Soy sauce 2 tsp Sesame oil 1/2 Chili chopped 1/2 Garlic chopped 1/2 Lime juice 1/4 Kaffir lime leaf finely chopped Combine all drizzle ingredients and let sit for an hour or so - give it time for all the flavours to combine. The salad was tossed greens (baby spinach and rocket) and bamboo shoots. The side is cubed airfried potatoes with a dash of olive oil and rosemary. The gemmies were rolled in mixture of flour salt and white pepper and grilled on a hot plate with a touch of olive oil. Apologies the for the blurry photo - was taken in a rush . Cheers Zoran
  7. W . O . W . .... that serious cooking ! Must be lots of stress mate ... Glad its you not me ... Cheers Z
  8. Very common in Hawkesbury yakkas. Pretty sure they were the inspiration for the Alien movies- can you see the resemblance? cheers Zoran
  9. It sounds like the drag is not done up or not tightening. It also looks pretty solid in the photos. I’m with Antony on this one - worth a case of beer. The way my canon works is I grab the spool and wind clockwise to tighten the drag and wind up. If you wind anti clockwise it gradually releases the drag and lets out line. Can’t imagine this one being too different. cheers Zoran
  10. Hahaha ... I knew @rickmarlin62 would jump on this one .... and rightly so ! He has the credentials to comment on what a VSea can do. I had a quick look at the advert and agree that trailer looks very "light" for a FG boat. Also I agree with all the great advice you have had so far - get the hull checked for rot both the floor - and most importantly the transom - any flex - think $000s. If the hull is ok then I would proceed with my decision process. Normally if someone can't explain how many hours - I would be seriously concerned but I would not exclude the opportunity just based on that. Has the owner offered a sea trial ? . .. if so, then they are showing confidence in the motor and the rig regardless if they can't explain how many hours the motor has done. If no sea trial - walk or negotiate harder - you will have to replace the motor now. From my experience way back in 1996, a guy was offering a Haines Hunter 635L with a Yammie 225 unknown hours in Salamander bay. My wife and I were interested because of the hull and reputation, so we contacted the seller. As it turned out the only time we could schedule an inspection was late on a Saturday - so we took that . But we actually decided to make a weekend of it and booked an overnight stay in the Nelson bay area unbeknown to the seller . We saw the boat and Saturday. We liked it but like you we had concerns regarding the motor. As it turns out, the owner was honest in not being able to answer about hours on the motor as he had bought it with that motor in Qld and had it trucked to Sydney - it was a demo boat for a boat yard on the sunshine coast. But ---- the owner offered to take us for a spin in the bay anytime .... we said how about tomorrow we are keen and have decided to overnight - he had no hesitation agreeing to take us for a demo run the next day. Long story short - 24 years later .... I am still in that same Haines Hunter boat. When I made the deal with the seller I had a very clear idea that I would be replacing the "unknown" motor and budgeted for that upgrade when I made my counteroffer on the boat. Similarly wrt the trailer. The main thing was, both my wife and I went for a spin on the boat. We knew what we were dealing with and could make an informed decision. So... in my opinion, if the hull does not pass inspection WALK ! ... the rest fo the stuff you will be replacing over time anyway. Cheers Zoran

    Trailer revamp

Thanks. Couldn’t tell if it was gal or ally from photos. Great job. 👍 cheers Zoran

    Trailer revamp

Love it Jon. That’s an awesome solution and so much less maintenance. Are the skids box section fully welded? Any weep holes? Did you redip the whole trailer? cheers Zoran
  13. Awesome reply @New Signing. I feel much better informed about vinyl wraps now. Thanks so much. Cheers Zoran
  14. Looks great @New Signing. I know we should not discuss commercial details here - we can always PM you for that, but I've often wondered how wraps work, how does the vinyl actually stick? What is the durability like etc. Would be great to shed some light on those aspects if you can. Infact @Scratchie was investigating how to get a new shine on his old girl in posts a week or so back. Cheers Zoran
  15. Ok... so just to close this out. The chair is complete....I used some marine canvas which I had salvaged from an old boat cover - to cover the foam - still needs to be washed - Archie is progressing well, getting used to having his meals upright.... But it is a process and we are not entirely there. He has to unlearn 9yrs of eating habits. Luckily my daughter is very dedicated - here's an earlier video where she started with treats and then progressed to spoon feeding.... So far the outcome is looking positive as he has regurgitated much less ...... we'll get there ! Cheers Zoran
  16. I'm with @noelm, @Mullatt, @Scratchie on this one. Never had any issue regarding any spending both ways. We trust each other to do the right thing - there's no federal and state, upper and lower house situation - budgets and plans are co-created - and adjusted as we execute eg. I had only ever intended to have one deep drop electric set up in the arsenal, but after "we" experienced the technology - we now have 2. Similarly, in the kitchen - the appliances and in the workshop - the tools, then there's the guitars and the sewing room, and then there's the ski gear .... oh dear .... if it adds to the quality and joy of life - proceed. But in hindsight I guess we have one over arching consideration that we apply - is it going to get used? If not - don't buy. Cheers Z
  17. ALWAYS tell Maria how great she looks - esp on the boat holding a 🎣 Remember she was the one that said - “get a bigger boat” after we got into trouble in our 16ft. cheers Zoran
  18. Or buy her exactly the same gear - so she can’t say you spent it on yourself ! Worst case you end up with a matching setup! cheers Zoran
  19. At least you got out! Good job to convert the solitary squid to multiple hookups. And Iackets aren’t bad on the chew. thanks for sharing. cheers Zoran
  20. Great report- shame about size but you aced all the techniques- there’s a big one waiting for one of the trips. cheers Zoran
  21. Penn.... more like a Landcruiser ! Cheers Z
  22. well like @rickmarlin62 i've put 30yrs on some of my Penn's and they are still going strong and catching fish but unlike Rick - I have not caught thousands of fish 😞 ... still trying though. Ok so heavy offshore bottom bashing 4 x Penn 950SSM matched with Penn Ultima rods, estuary fishing 2 x Penn Captiva one on 7ft Silstar crystal tip, the other on a shimano rod, 2 x Shimano 6100 bait runners one on Penn and the other on Silstar rod, Trolling 2 x Penn 330GGTi, 2 x Penn 45GLS, 1 x Penn 340GTi fitted to 3 Penn rods and 2 Jervis Walker rods .... and so on. So Penn features heavily in my arsenal - have caught just about everything to marlin on the gear - look after it and it just lasts. May not have all the bells and whistles, the smoothest gears or the most drag, but it just gets the job done - over and over and over again ..... Cheers ZoranPenn
  23. I must say the only diesel powered craft I’ve been on recently have been larger yachts, cross channel ferries etc. lots of separation between passengers and engine room. way back in 70-80s we used to hire the wooden putputs which were powered by a single cyl diesel inboard. But they were full of bilge water diesel fish bits and pretty much on the nose so no modern experience with diesel in a trailer boat scenario. cheers z
  24. Thanks Frank. He has settled in but we have not had a feed as yet. Just waiting for varnish to dry, then second coat tomorrow. I think first feed will most likely be Monday's dinner. So sorry to hear about your Jack Russell - they are a lively package - she would have kept you on your toes and in great company I'm sure. They have such individual personalities - just like people. Cheers Z
  25. Oh dear ... sorry KC, was never meant to come across like that .... I was just picking up on someone's comment that we all felt we had to dress up to taste your fare !!! Actually I think we are all a bit wary of posting in the kitchen - think @mrsswordfisherman should be handing out some Michellin hats to separate you from us mere mortals ! Cheers Z
