  10. Hi Raiders, After being inspired by Swordy's post on Thomos 2 days ago and not able to make the trip, I was eager to have a shot at those great fish that Thomos has to offer. So on Thursday I headed up the mountains with my wife Vicki, son Jason and his girl friend Henni. We knew it was going to be cold so we donned our ski suits and it was just as well as when we arrived at first light every puddle of water was frozen solid. We made a brisk walk from the car park to the dam to get our blood circulating. It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and stiff freezing cold SW wind . On The water around 7:15am with the sun now shinning but the wind was constant and seamed even colder now we had stopped walking. With in 10 minutes I had landed 2 small rainbows and dropped another. Jason could not believe Dad had three hook ups to his none, But the day had only just began! Things went a little quiet for a while then Jason calls I'm on By the bend in his rod I could see it was a nice fish. He played it to the letter using light drag on his 4 lb braid. He soon landed the fattest rainbow hen I had ever seen measuring 49cm, Jason's first trout. It was not much longer When Vicki let out one of her frightening screams followed by #$%@#$ which means I'm on. After a great fight with plenty of long runs a very excited Vicki lands a beautiful 52cm buck rainbow. I was starting to feel my first 2 small fish did not even rate in comparison to Jason & Vicki's catch. We were all using pink tassie devils and I was now flicking mine with with great gusto to land a comparable specimen. To my amazment Jason was now into another fine fish, and it was not long before he had another 50cm rainbow on the deck. Now I was under pressure and Jason was offering me tips on how and where to cast as though he was a pro, Mind you, he now has only ever caught 2 trout and they were just now about an hour apart Again things go quiet for a while and we move further along the bank to find the next waiting specimine. My hands and cheeks were numb from the freezing wind but we were having a ball. Henni was not fishing on the day but did perform admirably with handing out hot drinks sandwiches and the best tea cake you could ever ask for. A little more time passes and finally I get the chance to yell I'm on! With a great fight I landed yet another nice rainbow measuring 49cm. Jason was relieved that his fish was still a tad bigger. We made our way out around 2:30 in the afternoon and were amazed to find the small water puddles were still frozen on the surface brrrrr. A total of 7 rainbows were landed all on pink tassie devils. A great day was had by all despite the cold, but hey that's when you catch the best fish. Enjoy the photos. Cheers Brad, Vick Jason & Henni
  11. Hi Reggie, I see Stewy got you to do the pose with the rod in the mouth. He gets all of us to do that! Good to hear you guys had a fun day on the water. Cheers Brad
  12. Hi Mate, Good to see you out having a good time, good luck on Wednesday on the black fish with Stewy. Cheers Brad
  13. Thanks for having me on board Stewy, the donuts certainly were good but some hot coffee to go with them would have been even better. As Stewy & I discussed on the day, even thought it was a little wet it was better that fishing in blistering hot sun with the flies. Good luck at Glenbawn in a few weeks Stewy, sorry I can't make the trip this year. Cheers Brad
  14. Hi Jizzo, I was using my old 8 wrap 144 butterworth rod with a low mount for my 6.5" Alvey reel. I have used this combination for beach and rock fishing for over 30 years. Not too many fishermen use alveys these days but I swear by them and they are not as hard to master as most people think. They are also very easy to look after with just a simple rinse in water. Cheers Brad
