Hey Raiders, I'm lucky enough to be traveling to Mexico in March/April. I'll be in Cancun, Tulum, Belize and then over to Costa Rica. After a quick FR search I couldn't find much recent content about Raiders abroad in Mexico. Are there any recent trips, or tours that you'd recommend? I'm going to head fishing solo(and send my wife to the spa) but happy to join a mixed boat/run solo. Google is not as trustworthy as it once was on genuine recommendations so hoping to find a good operator over there. Thanks guys! Tight lines. Cheers, Mark

Thanks for the replies guys! I actually have the Berley Pro visor and mount on my Hook. They seem quite well made. Although my transducer is a split shot not the triple shot but am going to reach out to Berley Pro and see if their mount(attached photo) will fit my yak and the slightly different transducer. Back to the workshop. Will share pics once I find a resolution and update to a how-to 😁👍

Hey Guys, Just got myself a Kayak2fish next gen 10mk II. The yak has a transducer mounting plate but having some trouble getting it right. Started with it on the outside direct water contact however it was the lowest point and high risk of damaging when launching / retrieving... I've moved it to under the plate but noticed a significant increase in "noise" on the sounder and the structure scan not working as clear through the plate. Any suggestions- Is my best bet to cut out the plastic below and allow full transducer-water contact(keeping it safe above the bash plate)? Thought I'd ask before hacking up the plate 😁👍 Thanks raiders!

Thanks for your reply! Social maps is a feature of Genesis C-Maps that allows you to download sonar maps of other users. Unfortunately my finder is only GPS and does not have the maps preloaded. Trying to avoid the $150+ price to get the maps. Process I followed was as per the Lowrance instructions, download maps file from Genesis social maps - extract files - move to SD and insert. From what I can understand it should automatically recognise but not luck. The reveal is only a few months old so maybe still some teething issues to be resolved...

Hey Raiders, Just acquired a tidy little Yak setup with a Lowrance Hook 5 Reveal GPS on it. So far have only christened it with a Legal Trevally but once I have the hang of it hoping to find some Pelagics in Middle Harbour! I've tried to load up the social maps from Genesis Live onto the sounder, but can't seem to get the upload to work, has anyone had any luck? From what I found on the Lowrance site it is compatible but no dice so far. Thanks in advance for your help guys. Tight lines!

Like the info break down based on the fish! I'm thinking that a ray would unlikely take a run near the surface... The few times I've managed to lift large rays they seem to have emptied their battery and that's why I managed to raise them of the bottom... Thoughts? Based on that I'm guessing something larger and aggressive. I hooked what looked to be a large dark kingfish, my guess at the time was AmberJack or Samson? Who knows, but it acted similar to what you describe and then took a massive run towards the large white floaty at Clifton Gardens snapping me off. Hypothesizing about the one that got away always gets me up that next 5am spot... Tight lines!

A good place to start is your terminal tackle.... Go lighter, and try to ensure your hook is complete covered by your bait. Good quality monofilament leader in less than 10lb is a great start. Bait wise try and avoid servo prawns and go for freshly caught bait or tackle store stuff. It's very unlikely to hit a wharf on Sydney harbour and go home empty handed if you fish sunrise or sunset. Usually favouring Tide changes... Keep at it and good luck!

Hmm Sigma, I would say it might of been that particular officers interpretation of the requirements rather than the exact RMS definition... A chart plotter is defined in multiple online sources as: "A device used in marine navigation that integrates GPS data with an electronic navigational chart (ENC)" which IMHO clearly identifies it as a form of electronic map. Recurve any luck on the setup yet? I had a similar desire on a slightly smaller budget...One of our fellow members Chao, gave me a little advice on an entry level setup and have just acquired a Gomoku black paired with a Spheros5000SW... Looking forward to giving it a belting on the weekend!

Would I be wrong in saying that he should of had an Epirb if he was fishing outside? Ditto Cargo05 in saying lifejackets are a must in smaller boats. Very lucky to be going home to his family, it could have very easily been a different outcome.

Certain Slide bait rigs are designed to prevent swim-back, provided you setup your sinker leader to be lighter than your main leader, you will at worst, loose your lead. Good luck mate.

Average of 50cm! What a great session... The only time I've found them thick they were all sub 40cm... Glad you filled the freezer for the cooler months!

It's a good rule of thumb to make sure you know the fish before taking it home. Bag limits, sizes, protected species and potential toxins or poisons are pretty important to your health and our local ecosystems. That aside, I landed one of these near Clifton Gardens, pretty ordinary fight, but cool to land a new species!

Mike, I assure you that if you are only casting the grapple sinker out your casting distance will greatly increase. Think about your normal beach rig, in this case your casting distance would be restricted by a combination of high casting weight and increased resistance from your bait/ rig.... There are a lot of casting videos on the tube that could help you with technique, but you'll be pleasantly surprised how far you can get out past the breakers!

Mate, I'll share with you my uni-budget-friendly bait. Grab the cheapest chicken breast you can, slice into eraser sized pieces, and put into handful sized servings in zip lock bags. Add some Parmesan cheese and crushed garlic into each bag. seal and mix well, put in your fridge a few nights before you're going to use it and presto. I have taken bream, flathead and pan sized snapper on this... Just ensure to burley up as usually using bread/catfood and/or Burley pellets and you stand a good chance to bring home dinner. Tight lines!
