  1. Hi all, I am sure this question has probably been answered a hundred times but I am new to the squid/yakkas thing and just wondering if anyone could fill me in on how to catch/use for live bait. I have had a few attempts to catch squid but have not had any luck. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Great Catch mate. Looking to head out in the next few weeks. Can I ask how far south you were?
  3. Hi all, finally got out on the water after about 8 months! Due to work and family have not had a chance. Got out on port hacking around 4:30 this afternoon for a cruise. Decided to have a quick flick with soft plastics in the deep water around Lilly pilly. Got some good bits but no hook ups. Was using Berkley camo grubs. One of which got bitten in half and I was amazed that I did not get a hook up. All in all finally enjoyed getting the boat out for a good spin and hopefully there is a lot more to come!
  4. Hi raiders Finally have a chance to log on and report about the last week. Went out on the hacking on wednesday with no luck. Caught a few small reddies and that was it! Thursday headed down to Sussex Inlet to spend it with the family. Started with an outing for the prawns, but unfortunatly the tide did not turn till late, but we did manage just under a kilo in an hour so not a bad effort. Friday Night was not as good so we chucked some live ones out and from about 9 at night till 2 in the morning we managed 4 good sized bream, and 3 whiting with one being a monster! (photo to come) My dad did not have as much luck as me! He managed a puffa fish and 3 sting rays. We had 4 or 5 good runs that we missed. One felt like a big fish. I thought my sustain was going to start smoking!!!! Gave the fishing rest till boxing day and whilst at a family bbq at a place called Berra Lagoon (near Sussex Inlet) and not expecting to catch anything I threw the sustain out with a frozen prawn not expecting to catch much. Went and played a bit of cricket for an hour or so, came back over and thought my line had been caught by someone else as it was in the total opposite direction so I done the drag up and started winding and holy s&%t.....I thought my rod was going to snap so I backed off the drag and managed to pull in a whopper of a bream! A good 45cm.....unfortunately I was unable to get a photo as I cleaned it right away and chucked in foil with lemon and garlic and whacked it straight onto the bbq!
  5. I did the same, I got 2 x 3 metre strips in resin with double sided tape already on them. Just wiped metho on where I wanted to put them and they are fantastic. I just got another 3 metre strip to mount in the top lip of my livewell tank so they face down. As I do alot of night fishing/prawning they are fantastic! Just light up the whole deck! And when I am prawning I turn the cd player on....I had a friend on the wharf about 50 metres away and he rang me and asked if I was having a rave!!!! I will post photos of my home made livewell when its done.
  6. Ok, thanks mate. I got told to only inflate them to 25 which I thought was strange, but 40 sounds alot better!!!!!
  7. Yes, the trailer has light truck tyers on it. I have been running 40psi in my car tyres for years. I currently have bridgestone a/t duelers on at the moment. They have done 30,000kms, and still look new. It got recommended to me to run that much, even I was a bit iffy at first, but the ride and handling is much better. But I was not sure abnout the boat trailer. It says on the side that the max load is 595kg's at 65psi......
  8. Thanks Gazza. Hopefully I will be able to hook up to one. I have been spending this week getting the boat all ready (instead of packing) so I can take it out the day after I arrive back up there.
  9. Thanks. I am keen to hook into a few. I am moving back to Cronulla next weekend after being in Hobart for 12 months and unless you have a boat over 5.5metres the spots and fish are very limited!!!!

    kingy's

Hi Raiders, I am interested in catching my first kingy. I have heard that these things put up an awesome fight. I know that live squid or yakkas are the go, but unsure how to rig them up and use them. I do not have any down riggers so not sure if I just chuck them out the back and troll with them or if I anchor up and burley. Any tips and spots to troll/anchor would be very appreciated.
  11. thanks. They are 155x13 I run my car tyres at 40psi but I wasnt sure about the boat trailer
  12. Hi Raiders I have a question about tyre pressure's for your boat trailer. I am moving from Hobart to Sydney next weekend and I will driving up and I will be towing my boat. I have changed the bearings over, filled the buddies with new grease, checked the lights, I have a spare tyre and hub ready to go. The last thing I need to do is check the pressure in the tyres. I am unsure at what pressure I should be running in them for a drive like this. The boat weighs 120kg, the motor 85kg, and about 200kg worth of gear. I think all up on the trailer its between 450kg to 500kg. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.
  13. Yeah, after getting bitten off I was happy to land it...I tell you what though, put up a hell of a fight!!! Especially on the light rig I was using for flattie, bream, and whiting
  14. Make sure you are prepared...I got broken off three times before I landed this at about 2pm near kangaroo point.....
