  1. No worries mate, make sure you don't pay anymore than $400 for it though
  2. NIbbles, I mainly chuck 5inch fish arrows with 1/2oz heads. They go for miles and the rod handles. But I wouldn't go chucking anything to much heavier, you could get away with a 3/4oz head though I have many times. If you are going to use anything heavier make sure you only have about 30cm of line from the tip so as the load is exerted over the entire rod blank in the cast. The rod is very fast through the tip it is great for working heavier jigheads, doesn't fold away, however it is also brutal on hookset which is what you want for a jew rod. however, I have pulled the hooks on a few using transams and threadybusters as the fast taper can be a bit much for the trebles, changed over to single hooks haven't had an issue since and can't complain with hookup rates, snag the bottom less to which is an added bonus. it balances up with a reel anywhere from 200 to about 250g beautifully. I run a 4000 on it as 270g which is a little bit over but i don't mind as it makes the rod tip light, and since you are always working the tip up when chucking plastics this can be advantageous when using it for extended periods of time.
  3. G.Loomis BSR852GLX will be the nicest heavy plastics rod you will ever use. I run 20lb braid over that in the estuary where you can chase them down int he boat. Off the beach I'm running 50lb over a SMR and am looking at a heavier outfit as have been undergunned recently.
  4. could be a spottie mackerel, bigger bonito/tailor, plenty of sharks would fit the bill also.
  5. Heading up to coffs harbour next week looking to head out on an offshore charter. not really interested in bottom bashing withbait, fishing with livies is alright but im mainly interested in lure fishing dropping plastics and jigs or casting at surface pelagic schools. Anybody got any charters in that general area they can recommend? dont necessarily have to operate right out of coffs, happy to travel if there is decent fishing to be had. also staying at korora bay planning on spending a few nights chasing jew on the beach any tips would be appreciated. cheers P.S. have been eyeing off some of the freshwater in the area also wondering if there is anything alive and kicking in there? open to pm's Cheers
  6. bonito, long tom and the other fish you caught were pike
  7. have a look at most saltwater creeks. for bass what i usually say is where the mangroves stop is where you start casting. its not hard to find good looking bass water on google maps. its getting access which is always the hard part.
  8. shimano rarenium 4000 or 5000. a lot lighter than most reels of the equivalent size and has the two spools which would suit you well
  9. Just to let you guys know the comp was the Berkley Evinrude Team Series http://www.betsbream.com.au/ The winning bag today was a five fish bag that weighed 5.7kg. With a big bream of 1.31kg. Here is the results if you are interested http://www.betsbream.com.au/rounds/round-three/results/ Cheers
  10. Hi chasing jew off the beach with a paternoster rig. Having my mainline tied to a three way swivel the second terminal of the swivel tied to a piece of light line connected to my sinker then the last terminal tied onto my heavier trace with my livebait on the end. Which piece of line would you make longer, the line to the sinker or the line to the livebait? And reasons why? And roughly how long would you make each. I am wondering what would be best for max casting distance and reduction of tangles. Cheers
  11. Don't expect any greenery with the fires that have ripped through that area recently. Don't know how that affects the fishing though haha There are plenty of salmon at tallows
  12. Bit of super glue on the keeper then slide the plastic up over it and you wont have any dramas with the z-mans fallin off. Also, they should be chopper proof
