I had the exact same thing happen to me last Wednesday while chasing the big salmon school around North Head, hooked one on 10lb braid and it took a blistering first run and went down deep, didn't jump at all so i don't think it was a salmon. After about 15minutes of trying to gain line it eventually spat the hook, still don't know what it was.
