  1. Mate that is a cracker..especially for your first post, lucky you had the 30pound setup cause those reds pull bloody hard at any size,I've been chasing big reds lately on 10 pound tippet and now I'm really fired up to get out there!!congrats on a PB
  2. Great post and I'm sure every fisho is keeping there eyes and ears peeled for there arrival soon(hopefully)but in all honestly from what we experienced last year we could have towed a spread of thongs and gumboots and got fish!!
  3. These were definetely stripeys we caught a few, they were extremely fussy when we were chasing them.whenever we settled into a drift they would pop up and that's when they would bite, they were massacring tiny baitfish that were using the dead boat as cover,I had talked myself into them being macs until we saw a couple hit the deck, now the squidding reel needs a service!
  4. Yea I saw them on Saturday whilst fishing for reds down that way,we fought a 5 kilo model for 30 minutes on a squid rod, broke up a slow red session so can't complain,if they got big like YFT they would be unstoppable
  5. Thanks for the tips Ill try making the splice longer aswell, What kind of wax do you use over the Dacron? And do you run this wax over the whole Dacron splice?
  6. I'm using 50 pound Dacron and 80 pound mono, my splice is about 450 mm long, I might try some lighter Dacron as that theory makes sense and it's the one of the only things I haven't tryed.
  7. Hi all I've recently started tying my own DIY wind ons, this way i can top shot my heavy braided overheads with a loop to loop connection of mono of the desired length with no bulky knot e.g 15 or 20meters of mono just for a little cushioning of the strike and hook pulling, I'm just wondering if anyone has much experience with tying there own what do you use as the serve to fix the Dacron to the mono, as I've experimented with 30,50 pound braid and dental floss but after a few tests I still get the mono slipping out of the Dacron a little bit, any info would be great, cheers
