Didn't end up fishing all that much due to just spending time as family. Managed a very short session on the beach using pipi for bait. Got a bite then had the kids wanting to go to the pool so I cut it away. I'm sure the fish were there though. Maybe a flathead perhaps. I have young kids who I'm still working on

Thanks Roberta, I have packed the pump so I'll let you know if I catch anything. Nippers in the surf you reckon, never tried that before. As long as the surf is light. Do you know if I can pump on dry land or will I need to wade out to pump?

Gday Raiders, My family and I are taking a short get away to Big4 Tiona this weekend. I'd like to get my kids onto some flathead or whiting in the lake. I am land based and would like to know if I can pump yabbies nearby and hook my target species. Walking distance is preferred but I have the car if need be. Also have surf gear as well if there are salmon around at the moment. Thanks

Gday all, snap decision. I'm heading onto Stockton beach tomorrow morning bright and early to fish the sunrise and the high. Heading on through Lavis lane. Does anyone know where some good gutters are at the moment. Should I head north or south? I know my way around, just haven't been on for a few months. Chasing tailor or salmon using metal lures and ganged pillies. Thanks

Flicked metals for pelagic. Nothing. Lost focus for the rest of the day going from jew holes to breaming to flathead to whatever legal but came home with zero. 8 hours on the water for 0

Good decision. As for the jigs this is something the forum has recently been through if you have a look around. If you want the gist of it though buy jig heads in 2 or 3 sizes up to 1/8 oz max. 1/8 for flat head and smaller for other species like bream. Plastics in size 2-3 in. The plastic and jig will feel super light and you might wonder how this technique works at all but this where your 2-4kg rod (or even 1-3) and the light braid coffee in. Remember you are trying to cast a tiny 1 to 1.5g object a reasonable distance and give it a nice action in the water

Gday mate. Sorry to hear of your car but well done on the fishing side. I guess you may have learned this but before I go fishing I check the important factors like tide, swell and wind direction on willy weather and decide a suitable spot. Yesterday was not great for rock fishing. 1.8 m tide and 2.4m swell! By the way, those are tarwhine and not bream. How big were the small snapper and fish in the sink? Legal size I assume.

Mate, if you only learn one knot just learn the uni. Then for joining braid to mono I do the double uni. It's just two single uni knots pulled together. I'm sure Google can demonstrate. Then one day if you get into lure fishing learn the rapala knot but that's me anyway. I know more knots than these two but I rarely need to. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
