  1. Nice work on the record!
  2. Thanks for the info, really helpful. I use the new DPI app and the pamphlet, but I guess they don't have all species listed especially if there are no limits on them. Is there a more complete reference to ID fish?
  3. First time visitor to the Sydney FAD on Sunday and started with a some jigs (first time as well), almost immediately snagged some Gemfish up to 50cm. I'd marked the spot and we kept catching them every time we drifted over it and they kept coming until our bag/boat limit was quickly full. Good fun but I did lose a few jigs as I found our 15lb leaders were snipped - is that too light? ...I assume that's the gemfish teeth doing that. Picked up a nice trevally on a SP which was also fun. Can someone confirm the fish at the end is a Yellow Finned Whiting? just didn't expect to catch one there. Overall pretty happy with that and hope it gets better with the warmer seas -I'll be back.
  4. Was at lake Mac for the first time in 20 years, i followed some tips from our raiders and headed to Pulbar Island, laid down a burley trail and after 15 minutes the fish were coming thick and fast! The kids were loving it! My 5yo caught a 38cm Trevally on his little kiddy rid which took some stopping- he was over the moon, the fish was the size of his head! Otherwise a great variety of flatties, bream, snapper, flounder, sweep, and few large Trevally with the biggest at 44cm which was screaming on my 2-4kg outfit. Heaps of fun with the family when everyone's catching fish
  5. Thanks all, report is now in fishing reports forum
  6. Awesome, thanks for the ideas, I'll post a report next week when I'm back
  7. Hi Raiders, off to Lake Macquarie next week for a few days of non stop fishing. I haven't been there since I was a kid, does anyone have any good info on what to target and where at this time of year? I assume same species as Sydney harbour, but not sure., stick to the channel or go around the lake? thanks
  8. I can finally write a worthwhile report.... I was out on the harbour Sunday afternoon around Clifton gardens with a typical catch of flounder, flatties and squid with a few keepers. Moved to the wedding cakes but nothing much happening there and then drifted across the harbour and it was non stop action, double and triple hook ups with mostly snapper and quite a few close to the 30cm size which were good fun on our light gear, but a shame there were no keepers. 1 big salmon hit a metal lure on a 2-4kg outfit and that was just lots of fun. A slow troll back to the harbour bridge and got a couple of strikes with one tailor reeled in, and dropped something bigger. Overall a great day with a variety of fish caught using multiple techniques.
  9. Thanks Muz for the motivation. It's my goal to land a Marlin out of Sydney from my boat so glad to hear your hard work has paid off... Can you, or anyone tell me, do you just go out to a certain depth/distance and troll around with your fingers crossed or is there a specific area to concentrate on?
  10. Hi Raiders, First fishing report- so here goes Dropped anchor in the morning at the cardinal marker near Bradley's head , slow going but managed a few snapper, one just undersize but the rest just babes. On the way back, around lunchtime stopped just outside of Taronga zoo wharf where the surface was bubbling like crazy, so threw a few metal slugs in and picked up some juvenile tailor, was heaps of fun but could not get them that interested and the ones we hooked were pretty small. No keepers, and still looking for a decent catch....but will be out there again next time.
  11. Thanks Krispy for the good report, that's a good catch. I was out the same day, but in the evening, high was around sunset and conditions were calm and warm. Trolled all from the harbour bridge, around the wedding cakes and around the heads and back....not a single strike...annoying, not sure what I'm doing wrong there? one of those evenings you think looks perfect...
  12. nice report, much appreciated. I'll head out to the harbour, maybe long reef on Sunday...
  13. Jarvo, I'm in the same position, just set the boat up for offshore but Id like to understand where I should start (say 1-2km offshore Sydney) and then progressively get further out....if anyone can give me a few points on the logical sequence of locations to hit it would be a big help.
