  1. Burnsy74 is correct, My VW touareg wouldn't light up the new LEDS I put on my trailer. The cars sends a "test signal" to every light when you first turn the ign. on, because the leds have very little resistance, it shows a light fault and they just continue to flicker. To fix this you can buy a resistance box or as I took the cheaper way out and went to Jcar and got four 100 OHM ceramic resistors and fitted them between the brake, tail and indicator wires and the earth.
  2. Mystery solved!!! I took the reel to a tackle expert, It seems that sometime in the last 31 years, that the original spool with the drag mechenism was removed and a spool fitted from a rear drag reel. So basicly it has the wrong spool.
  3. Hi Wolf, I know its been awhile since your last update, How is it going? Did you make your own CC or buy one? I'm keen to find out how it went 'cos I have a 5.5 novacraft half cab that needs the floor replacing and I am considering weather to cut the cab off or not. What are you going to do with the top edges of the hull? (Gunwale??) Build something in wood/glass I guess? I did that on my Nova 25 project where the gunwale had been chopped out at some point in the past..Look up "Nova 25 repaint" on Youtube (by Overdue1970). More photos of yours please???
  4. Ron c, Thanks for the link, I had a look, mine is almost the same, except for the drag bit! I took some pics, but they were too big to post and I don't know how to make them smaller.....I uploaded them to Youtube instead. Take a look and tell me what you think, you can see the pin in the shaft that locates the spool onto the shaft, and you can see in the first pic that there is no rear drag. Also, the spool is definatly one piece, there is no drag mechinism in the spool. I'm taking it to a bloke I work with who once repaired reels at a takle shop to see what he thinks...I'll let you know what he says. These reels were built about 1981.
  5. I purchased a Shimano MLX 300 quickfire reel from a garage sale, thought it would be a good to put on a rod I had lying around to use when I had friends come to visit, Anyway I set it up with 30lb braid and took it out on a trip to the nearby islands. The first fish I hooked just snapped me off as I had'nt checked the drag setting....but wait, the reel has no drag mechinism!! only a pin through the shaft to locate the spool!! Am I missing something? What are these reels made for? Kites? not for my type of fishing thats for sure. It only cost me $11.00 so I'm not worried about that, I'm just curious to know what it's intended use is/was??? Any ideas...anyone??
  6. Iteresting topic...My story is not really up there with Barra, Jewies and the like, but interesting anyway... I took my kids down to lake in a park where you could feed the fish ( fork tailed catfish) and turtles with bread. just for entertainment I took a rod with and unweighted hook, The turtles and catfish were moving in in droves as we threw bread into the very dirty water, the turtles were comming in close and the catfish were staying further out, I baited the hook and cast it out as far as I could as I did'nt want to hook a turtle, a catfish grabbed it and I handed it to my Daughter who reeled it in.It was grunting loudly..as they do.. We released the fish and almost instantly all the catfish vanished, we could not even intice them with more bread on the surface...so , in this case..catfish are definatly shut down after reliese, However I'm sure you have all been fishing in a creek or lake where you can catch and release catfish all day long, but I guess thats a lot bigger/deeper area???
