  1. Thanks heaps to everyone for the help. Unfortunately due to some injuries we didn't get a chance to fish. But I still have all this knowledge and new equipment stored for summer.
  2. I'll be targeting them on my kayak tomorrow around the Drummoyne/Gladesville area. Not too confident now. I'm thinking of taking some pillies to increase my chances, would this be a good idea?
  3. Thanks luderick angler. There's so much info there I'm bound to catch something and don't worry dave I bought two Tassie devils today. One with gold wings and one brown and gold with clear wings so fingers crossed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Awesome thanks heaps! I can always go buy some 6lb fluoro I do use it just am out at the moment. I think I'll bring up one rod and the others guys can bring up their own and I'll just use the opposite of what they use, in terms of bait or lure. They all have similar setups to mine. If I catch anything I'll be sure to take some pictures and post them up here, especially if they're of a good size. I think once the season opens back up I'm going to have to find some streams closer to Sydney to hit. I've been watching heaps of youtube videos and it is safe to say I'm already hooked and I haven't even tried it yet
  5. Thanks so much for the info guys. I think I'll definitely take a light bream rod down with some power bait and hard bodies and check out the tackle shop for some live worms. Will a 2-4kg rod with 6lb braid and 8lb fluoro leader do the job? I am well aware about the no fishing in rivers and streams at the moment and am pretty upset about it because fishing in those types of waters is what appeals to me most about freshwater fishing. But I completely understand that these laws are in place for the good of the fish and will respect those 100%. One thing I couldn't find info on though was whether or not I am allowed to keep fish caught in lakes and dams during the closed season? Being on holidays I doubt I would anyways but in case someone feels up to cleaning and cooking or even taking some home I might if it is legal.
  6. Thanks everyone. Went out last thursday with a pair of full length leg skins and a thermal top. It was a reasonably warm day around 20C but I think as long as I stay paddling I'd be comfortable down to about 15-16C in that outfit. On the fishing side of things I only caught a baby snapper.
  7. Hi everyone, I'm heading down to Jindabyne this weekend for a snow trip and when I was there a few weeks ago I was really keen to fish but didn't have any gear with me. I'm thinking of bringing down a couple rods and hb's. This will be my first time trout fishing and freshwater fishing and I have never fly fished nor do I own any gear for it. Would there be much of a chance of me catching anything off of a light spinning outfit on my first time or should I not bother trying and wait to go with someone more experienced. Also if anyone thinks its worth a shot any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jason.
  8. Thanks everyone. The spring suit definitely sounds like an awesome idea and something different to try. Hopefully if I have some warm attire I'll have no excuses this winter to get out and chase some fish.
  9. Thanks mate it's good to hear that not much has slowed with the colder weather. I'm just looking for something that doesn't hold absorb much water and is reasonably light but can provide a bit of warmth. I might try some thermals that I take snowboarding and light jacket like one you suggested. Thanks.
  10. I'll be off of uni until early August and I'm hoping to take my yak out a bit over my break. I was just wandering if anyone has any tips on clothing that would be good for cold weather yaking. I usually wear a pair of skins and a tee but I am sure that won't be enough even if I go out on a warmish day. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also has anyone had a chance to go out lately around the inner west? Thanks, Jason.
  11. I still have no idea what they could have been but it was really muddy and murky in that part of the Hawkesbury so I couldn't get any sight of what it was at all. Hopefully I'll get the chance to head back there and try catch whatever it was. Thanks for the help, Jason
  12. Hi Roberta, Thanks for a very informative post. Have you ever tried using squid instead of pippies? Or does anyone know if this would work? Thanks, Jason.
  13. Great fish, great video and a great release. Good job! Jason
  14. If that's the case I wont bother bringing down a bigger beach rod I'll stick to something a bit more reasonable for those fish and just find some gutters that are close to shore. I'll try get some worms and throw them out aswell. Thanks.
