  2. This man speaks truth.. Whilst they DO have the REAL DEAL HT-100 Carbon Drag... The rest is horrible.. It follows the same design as the battle series apon dismantling but the materials used are sub-par. Mine began to corrode on the crown gear - Then bail arm roller - THEN external screws & to finish it off... The Reverse bearing 'rollers' began to deteriorate and become pitted causing them to eat into their plastic housings & retern springs. The reel was NEVER dunked. Although I did salvage that drag system and its preety damn good retrofitted into a sienna 2500FD
  3. Grubz are liable to get you perch & bream too even during the day at the moment
  4. Might have to race down this sunday before work... west of lake fishing is hopeless just small flatties Oddly enough the storm pushed MOUNTAINS of wireweed into ourimbah creek.... it can be found readily at a lazy depth of 2meters
  5. The Water temp has dropped dramatically with all the fresh. Although the lake mouth wont stay open for very long
  6. Just checked the middle of the lake today- Coffee Brown... Place resembles a rubbish tip. Even saw a washed up syringe. On the flipside I understand why flatties are out in force - Creeks still have conciderable flow and poddies are out in there millions... I still have 3-5cm mullet swimming at the end of the street in 'whats left of the flood' puddle. Wish I took a photo of mullet fishing from my balcony during the flood peak On a side note. When the waters were still rising/Peaking & water quality not yet severely tarnished - (the end of our street in chittaway point was 4ft deep). And being isolated on the property with only a canoe to get up the road to the cars I did abit of hardbody cranking around the flooded margins of the lake early mornings.. To my surprise small (8-14cm) Bream were on the chew consistantly in what would otherwise be dry land! T'was abit of fun concidering no power for a week and isolation
  7. Whats the water clarity like? Is the channel east of the bridge deeper or did the big wet just push the sand spit aside?
  8. I use circles for bream & flathead IF the rare occasion occurs that I use bait... I find that for bream its their life saver (or savior?) almost getting a 90% hook up in the corner of the jaw and maybe 1/15 chance of accidentally gut hooking if the wrong hook setting technique is used... FlatHead being the same.. The trick with circle hooks is NOT to strike! Instead , Attempt a slow & steady lift of the rod tip once you've detected a bite which should lead to the circle hook coming back through the gullet & rotating to pin the fish in the upper pallet or corner of the jaw. Tight Lines!
  9. Been catching small bream on hardbodies at the end of my flooded street...its 5ft above the road. Some species of Fish will often move up into the flooded margins to feed
  10. Bad Shad & GoldRush MinnowZ & Deisel for me.... However, 2.5 Crusteaz (WITH the nippers seperated once out of the pack) in Motor oil / gudgeon / pumpkin have literally caught all of my estuary species in the past few months- Whiting (normal XSsmall jig) flathead , Tailor, bream, Trev, Sole/flounder (all on #1 or #4 gamagatzu home made weedless jigs) For Reference - This is how I make my weedless hooks (exept now I have a more powerful soldering iron & can reuse the lead from rusty old jigheads!!) same principal applies. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=75160&hl= <$10 weedless jigheads in any size you like! For making certain specialty jigheads like the 'stand up' ones Savage Gear makes I create a mould out of self setting craft clay.
  11. IMO, Flathead tend to go for the Two-Tone 'mullet' looking colour ( cant remember the name). Either that or GoldRush (black w/ gold flake). I bought up plenty when they were first out and have never had success with bloodworm or Motor Oil when it comes to flathead. Just My 2c
  12. This post can be removed - The lake is clear of any *Related* algae growths mentioned in this post
  13. I myself havent spotted any algae for a few weeks I believe the bloom had something to do with the rapidly rising water temp & has since died down. Prawning has been VERY GOOD with large specimens comming into the nets & quite heafty hauls. Yes - Prawning is Safe - Had a few friends get some good catches with NO ill-effects.
  14. i'd agree with nerve damage to the fish in question, causing discolouration of the rear quarters. I have noticed some ifnot similar discolouration in injured poddy mullet (bite marks to the back dorsal fin)
