  1. Just last winter spent all my days off fishing for around 8 hrs with nothing. I thought that its winter and theres no little ones to pick off the fillets, Id have a better chance of catching the big ones. But no runs at all last winter.
  2. I remember last year during winter I spent alot of time fishing with live baits and fillets around middle harbour only to catch nothing. Should I bother ?
  3. Hello all I just spent around 3hrs at Narrabeen lakes trying to catch poddy mullets. The only place I can catch mullet is at northbridge boat ramp. At the ramp its a bit easier because I can use just bring the mullet right in front of me and just try catch them without casting, Still hard for me to catch them at northbridge though. Anyways I was at narrabeen today and can see them all over the place. They always ignore the bread on the hook and just go for the bread that I use for burley. Ive tried almost every way I think. I always use smallest hooks I can buy like size 12 long shanks or those small luderick ones. Methods tried: - I notice they have a go at the floater so I make the hook as close as possible to the floater and put a small piece on the hook. I chuck some bread in to attract them and cast the floater wherever the bread is. This is probably the most easiest way for me to catch them. - I just tie a hook with nothing else. Thread a crust of bread through to act as a floater/burley and have a floating piece of bread on the hook. They all come to it like crazy but I just cant hook them. - Ive tried 2L milk bottles and juice bottles and made sure there invisible. Opera house nets. See through lunch boxes with a hole made on the top. They all come to the bottles and stuff but never get trapped inside or sometimes just totally ignore it. - Put some crumbs in front of me and have and unweighted hook with a bit of bread floating on the top to try hook em. I want to try some live bait at narrabeen lake during the day and only livies I can find are poddies. I see those huge mullet all the time but they just ignore everything. Any info on how to catch those huge mullet to ? Am I using wrong hooks or techniques ? I just dont want to spend alot of time at northbridge and spend couple of hours to catch 3 or 4 mullet and by the time I get to narrabeen lake there not as lively.
  4. Yeh I can never catch those big mullet. I always see them swimming around but they ignore everything. I can only catch those little poddy mullet. Also how would you serve that for jewies ?
  5. ah k.... Sorry. I was only asking info about the fish head tactics because im thinking of giving it a go this weekend. thanks !

  8. I find that yakka come out just when the sun sets with a bit of berley. Hard for me to find them during the day but eventually they come after the berley. I use cat food for berley
  9. Makes me feel good thinking it could of been a jewie !
  10. I was putting hook through the back closer to the tail on a running rig. I tried hooking them through the head after mulloway man suggesting it but unfortunately went really quiet after that. The yakka I was using were around 15cm They were just getting destroyed but without the hook on. Was getting frustrated.
  11. Was wondering if anyone knows how most fish eat or attack there live bait. For example mulloway, kingfish, flathead ,salmons Do most eat it whole ? I'm fishing right now and had 5 livies out. Drag went off and most live bait comes back wIth just the tail. Does it also depend on what kind of bait. ?
  12. Thanks DHYPE ! just getting into the squid jigging
  13. what would be a good brand to buy ? also can you catch squid in roseville ?
  14. Hey all I'm a land based fisherman and not so experienced. I just normally get some live bait and just chuck it in hoping to catch a big one. I never follow the tide or the moon phase. But this year I want to be a bit more serious about fishing, I go to most of the areas that I read about here like clifton, roseville, narrabeen lakes, captain cook bridge or the spit. Normally what I do is try and cast my live bait as close to the bridge pylons as I can because I think that's where all the big ones are hiding. If there's no bridge or structure around me I just cast to an open area and wait. My goal this year is to catch a jewfish ! I was told I gotta look for gutters or holes. How do I find these gutters or holes ? Generally I fish were I see alot of baitfish like yakka, because I think that the big ones are going to be near waiting for them. Is this the right thing to do ? Still learning about moon phases and tides. Also I'm just trying to learn on how to choose a spot in general and not just for a jewfish. I just want to fight a big fish ! Any advice and tips will help me alot and help me to become a better and more serious fisherman. thanks guys !
  15. So I went fishing a couple of days ago at Middle Harbour. Around 30 min before leaving I had a 3/4 of cat food left in a can so I decided to chuck it all in. 5mins later, I hear some swooshing in the water and no joke, I see a kingfish ! It would of had to been close to a meter ! The kingy kept swimming left and right real quick and I noticed it was trying to eat one of those big sea mullet. This all happened within 10 seconds. This was the second time I've seen something like this. The first time was at Balmoral and I remember a kingy coming within 10mins of chucking a whole can of cat food in. It was a smaller one, around 40cm. Both times happened during the day and was in about 2-3m water, so I got a good look and was 100% that it was a king fish
