  1. The ABT bream tournament grandfinal was on.
  2. I've been fishing Berowra waters down to Gunya Point with Plastics for both bream and Mulloway including on 30th Jan, 1 Feb and 3 Feb. The fishing was better at the beginning with 3 bream and a bucket load of undersized flathead. Bar Point a big fat Zero each time, and Gunya point not much happening there either. I find the big spring tides in the Hawesbury very tricky so I tend to fish the feeder systems when these occur and my chances improve. I'm shocked by the lack of bream in the system.. We need the oyster men back on the river.
  3. For me the lighter the tackle the better. My preference is to lure fish these majestic fish. However if I was to live bait, I find that the live bait used must be what you will find in a particular location you want to fish. This sounds pedantic but no point taking a Long Tom from the mouth of a river and deploying it miles upstream. For livies go local and your chances may improve.
  4. Best Jew fishing in winter in Hawkesbury.
  5. Who says there are no fish in the Haweksbury / Cowan system. Took the boat out with my Dad and my Four year old daughter. Fished a the big tide yesterday with a howling north easterly wind on one of the bays at the lower end of the system. Picked up 15 bream of which 6 were of legal length and the biggest went 32cms all were released. The 3 of us used different techniques. My dad unweighted baits ranging from chicken to pilchards. My daughter used bread suspended by float and I used 70mm squidgy wriggler in various natural colours. All techniques provided results with the bread an float catching more fish. A great day out!
  6. The answer depends on how old your kids are, since you wrote family? if they are are under 5 then go for bobin head. if they are 5-10 take a walk along the shore at apple tree bay up along cowan creek. if they are over 10 and love their fishing and can take a bit of a walk try flint and steel bay off west head. for all of these options, I suggest look at google maps for best looking spots and drop off to deeper water.
  7. Totally agree with your observation. I take my 2yr old daughter to feed the bream on a regular basis down at Roseville. As soon as I put a plastic or unweighted prawn in front of the big guys noses they turn their backs and head towards the Mangrove lined shore. Somtimes I go down there and hunt the bream feeding on the oyster encrusted shore line along the fire trail... the bream can see you a mile off, if your not in green, grey and tan coloured clothes.
  8. Im not surprised, I caught one of similar size in waratah bay this summer on a wriggler grub designed for bream.
  9. Nice catch Jono. I can subscribe to this...Ive been taking my 2 year old daughter down to this boat ramp over the last 3 months and all we have been doing is feeding the fish with a loaf of white bread white bread. In a few years she will be out with me catching them.
  10. Woops meant January. March is on the brain as Im planning a week of Fishing.
  11. Hi Raiders, Here are 2 reports from my last two outings. I fished last hour for the run in and first hour of the runout, using a combination of live nippers, prawns, and local caught but frozen squid. Sorry for the lengthy read. So taking some advise from responses to my last report on catfish galore and 1 bream for the day at the Vines. Fished down at the mouth of the river. 20 Jan 2010, headed out to the mouth of Cowan and Haweksbury where we always had success many years ago and had not fished it since we aquired our boat 4 years ago...some one told us that the trawlwers had scowered the pippie beds ob the sea floor that were once there when I was a child. the result was a plauge of reddies and a nice tan coloured Port Jackson shark. We moved to the Northern side of the river for run out adjacent to the last beach in the Cowan system and picked up a legal flattie, however very quiet and nothing after that. 27 Jan 2010, got the the boat ramp at 3pm to hear on the radio there was a fithly storm headed into Sydney so headed to Waratah Bay for some small mullet hoping the wind and rain subsided (which it did) so I could lay one down for a School Jew or a Stonking Hawkesbury bream. (Ive decided not to chase Jew any specifically more (due to time constraints), just decided to fish dam light and Im sure I will stumble across one, one day. To my surprise not many mullet around on the flats so while waiting for the tide and the weather to calm down flicked a 2 inch Berkley grub into the drop off seeking a bream or flattie. No luck on the drop off so went deep and cast into about 14 meters of water. Put the rod in the holder to grab a snack and then lifted the rod tip to feel weight. So fed a little line out and it moved, I then struck hard thinking great my first Jewie in Waratah Bay....after 5 - 10 mins of a tussle on 4lb braid, colour came to be visable, a dark brown, black colour and it wasnt a flathead...I had picked up a baby Cobia of all things (photo to come with my Dad and the Cobia, only I had my trusty work issue Blackerry to take the photo.) Cobia was then realeased back to the water to hopefully grow up. To cut a long story short Dangar Isalnd plenty of Reddies, under sized flatties and something I suspected as a few Jew runs on prawn, my Dad let them run and didnt strike hard hen they moved off, oh well something learnt for my next trip. Home fishless but the Cobia made it all worth while!. Cheers Brett (BMP)
  12. Hi Raiders, Fished the Vines today with my Dad, on the lead up to the first hour of the run out of the tide. Results pretty dissapointing. Used a variety of baits from nippers, prawns, and good old chook gut. Catfish galore and 1 bream to 31cms. Is any one familair of the migatory pattern of Bream of this time of year in the Hawkesbury? When I was a kid 15yrs ago, Dad and always found enough decent Bream for a family feed and put pleanty moor back once we had enough for a meal, this usually in late March near Challenger Head at the mouth of the river. Are this Bream schooling up river or are the scattered through out the system. I would appreciate some assistance here, my Dad is struggling to come to terms only coming home with one or two Bream, session after session. Im aiming to hit the water again this Friday...wish me some luck. Cheers BP
  13. Ive picked a a few kings in smiths creek during February.
  14. My old man used chicken strips coated in parmesan cheese. I used gulp 2" shads in pumkin seed colour, as I am wanting to become proficient in using plastics. The Chicken hit 9 and I hit 6.
  15. Hi Raiders Went out spinning for some bream today with the old man. The first of 10 fishing dates penciled in for January 09. Fished the run in at Berowra Point - was plagued by tiny Taylor. Moved up to Marlow for the last half hour of the run in and fished through to the first hour of the run out. Caught and released 15 under sized bream all around the 15 - 20cm size. Something was better than nothing I guess, just no keepers for the old boy who loves a serve of fresh bream. Wish me luck for my next outing January 7.!!
  16. How good is it to catch a big barra - I got one last year 91cm at Bathurst Island but it was a horse across the shoulders. Got the catch on video to so i can relive the memory. My little brother Nick got a small jew nothing to complete. Anyone who hasnt done a top end trip save your precious $$ and get up there!!
