  1. Dancer , Here are some facts for you. These are the facts. This mako deal is driven by the Pew Charitable Trust. They are an American organisation that made millions from oil. They are loaded and already have made sanctuaries in WA for whales and no fish zones for recreational anglers on the coastlines on WA. They are also pushing for the closure of the Coral Sea for all recreational and commercial fishing. That means no more charter boats and no more marlin fishing from Cairns. These people are very powerful and are a “jugernaught out of control’ and are the most powerful force that we will ever experience They are the instigator of the Sea kitten image and the purveyors of how cruel it is to harm the little Sea Kittens by us criminals, the rec. anglers I personally am all for protecting our marline species but it was not recreational anglers that reduced the shark population by 70%.. The GFClubs knock maybe a 100 or so over a season but that’s only a drop in the ocean compared to the millions killed by shark finners and long lining. They have allotted shark sanctuaries all over the Pacific and Indian Oceans Pew also wants sanctuaries zones out to 200 mile and Peter Garret loves them because it does not cost his government a brass razoo to implement. We are, wether we like it or not faced with major changes in the future to what we have been used to in the past. The good news is that I had lunch with a good friend and client Steve Isaacs as well as The Hon Robert Brown of the Shooters and Fishing Party. He is a good man and is, like Duncan Gay dedicated to reverse sanctuary lock outs in NSW. These idiots that are in power will get dumped by every fisherman who cares and Both Brownie and Duncan Gay are in our corner fighting and fighting hard and I do believe that they are both very genuine men. Rob Brown has called for a Recreation Fishing Enquiry which is in Parliament as we speak It is important that we vote correctly as fishermen to ensure both these parties get in. PEW are intent on banning Mako shark fishing in January 2010. So if you care make some noise Sign petitions etc It may help “You see we didn’t start the Fire” But we are copping the blame for it. We are, wether we like it or not faced with major changes in the future to what we have been used to in the past. ON THE NSW SCENE IT'S A LOT BRIGHTER The good news is that I had lunch with a good friend and client Steve Isaacs as well as The Hon Robert Brown of the Shooters and Fishing Party. He is a good man and is, like Duncan Gay dedicated to reverse sanctuary lock outs in NSW. 3. Craig, Having fished this tourny for many years on Broadbill, it has always been a most friendly affair and well supported by boats from many of the gamefishing clubs far and wide. We will be at Pt Stephens then for three months, but will listen in on the Hf Radio, good luck with it....... As usual it will be a fun event with great trophies and prizes. Ross Hunter
  4. Bat, What about that huge one we caught at Pt Stephens in the early 80's It took two baits and we estimated it at 70kg. Do you remember I also caught another in '69 off Broughton Island, but it was small and they are the only two up there. However we did catch one off Sydney, you may have been on deck at the time I took a head rigged tailor off Coogee... Well done up in the land of the tropics Ross
  5. Rob, I recieved the photos and saved them and then deleted the email and did not save your email address to thanks you I will use more of them in our next update on our site www.gamefishingcharters.com.au look in Fishing Reports sometime next week. It was a fun day Ross
  6. Luke, Thanks for booking for Pt Stephens 2010 It is my mission to see you with stretched arms from a Pt Stephens marlin, it will happen and that will make me very happy. We still have two spots left if any Raiders would like to join us ..maybe one like this 140kg model would that do Luke? Ross
  7. Raiders, The past two days on Broadbill has seen a major improvement in the inshore scene. We have had some really great catches of salmon to 4kg ,bonito, mowies, the occasional red, pig fish and blue spot flatties to 60cm’s, The current is now back into a southward set and with water temps of 18 degrees life has become much easier for The Emu and me and our clients. Great days indeed. I have never seen salmon as thick as they were both Friday and Saturday. Great to see and to experience. These amazing sportfish we targeted on 6kg spin gear and sp’s great fun. We are offering our Xmas specials for Raiders ‘ “A DAY ON THE REEF” @ $1200.00 that’s 7 hours fishing for 6 anglers @ $200.00 ea (that's 25%discount) Ring 9534 2378 to book if you are interested. Roscoe
  8. Raiders, For those of you who have enjoyed the fishing show "Hi Tide", (formerly 2KY for the past 19 years) we have good news, it's back on air. The show has been the Fisherman's voice for many years. ( a show where we could state our stance against sanctuary lock outs etc..) I will be doing my segment from 5.45am if any one would care to listen in. Tomorrow's segment a yarn about Live baiting the rocks off Pretty Beach with the St George sportfishing club in the 80's Then Sunday mako sharks .. Then next week "How To improve your skills catching dolphin fish and much more as the weeks flow by. The show has many great presenters have a listen I'm sure you will enjoy from 4am to 7am. Ross Hunter
  9. Schnepy, The Bats on fire.. Add to these fish "runner up boat" in the Cairns Tourny ( although he did catch his marlin first, but beaten on the lighter line) a most versitile fisherman. Well done Lord Barron Batsrum. Roscoe
  10. You can never predict stripey tuna but one thing for sure they were thick on Friday Ross
  11. We fished yesterday on Broadbill with the crew that caught 21 marlin in a day at Pt Stephens 2005 They were keen for a good day and it started OK with afew kings around Botany Bay There were heaps of them schooled with white gulls and terns on them. Good Start I thought We then headed out wider and ran into acres of striped tuna, double hook ups were common. We will fillet and salt these as snapper baits I thought to myself ( which The Emu dillegently did on the way home) We headed to the shelf to cube for a tuna or a shark but the current against the wind made for a nasty time at rest even on Broady (which is the most stable boat around in these conditions). A couple of the guys got sick, so we headed off without raising a scale. We caught more stripeys and bonito at the Heads. We trolled the stripeys on small black and purple squid. We caught 51 stripeys and let 20 go. They were all filleted and kept for baits for later on. Billfisher had a reef day at our favourite spot "Hunter's Hill" and whilst he caught a small 40 kg mako which was released he reprted that the reef side of things was a bit tough and worked hard for all fish caught , mind you they only fished a four hour afternoon session. The am tide would have been better.. Sorry no photos.. No fishing Saturday due to weather or probably Sunday (due to football Go Parra) Ross Hunter
  12. Jack, The world shark population is down by 70% and it seems a waste to keep killing these beautiful fish and then dump them at sea, maybe I am overprotective of our ocean Ross
  13. Slinky, Thanks mate! Boy I reckon the next time I go to sea I may get sea sick It's been that long, what with new engines, holidays and gale forced winds it's been a few weeks now, but as always I am looking forwrd to getting back out there Ross
