  1. Octapus has its brain wrapped round it's osophagus and it's very small and so that's why they are hard to kill. Saw that on telly the other night
  2. Taking the kids out today - anyone know if it's open yet?
  3. Very nice. Interesting that he went for the jig and not the livies.
  4. Well done Jason. Sounds like you had a ball. Those MH Kings will love those squid even if they are not exactly local fair. Hope you had a good Xmas and happy new year to you. Hopefully we can catch up next week. All the best, Stipo.
  5. Hi Jason, Sounds like you've been busy. I've been out a fair bit over winter but typically without much success. I'm sure I've got a big shark painted on the bottom of the boat. Get in touch mate it's been ages and I've lost your details. Cheers Stipo
  6. Probably a cuttle fish. As ggod as squid for bait - if not better.
  7. I've been tryimg for months (years actually) to land a decent snapper and I finally managed it on Sunday, 9/12. Mick and I got outside, off Manly for some smileys and then a few Ks off long reef to put them down. We cubed pillies for 30 minutes or so before this 58cm red decided my 1/2 a slimey attached to a 2 hook rig looked appetising enough to run off with. I can't tell you how excited I was to see a red at the end of the line instead of the usual sargent baker. Can't wait to get out there again and see if they are still around. BTW, we also got onto a 7 or 8ft thrasher shark. That was fun. I had him up to the boat about 4 times before we decided to cut the line rather than have him in biting our toes. Cheers, Stipo
  8. I didn't know they got that big. Well done in releasing her!
  9. We are up at Hawks Nest with the kids and a mate's family for the week. We finaly had a gap in the rain and wind yesterday (you can see it just above Mick's head in the photo) so headed down to the beach at Mungo Brush with some pillies. Being lower tide, we cruised along the beach for a bit and found a nice gutter. It was good to have the beach all to ourselves for a change - it can get a bit crowded up here. We had a ball with some good size Salmon until we ran out of pillies. We ended up landing about 15 between us with 2 or 3 dropped. All were returned to the sea, although some with a bit of a tooth ache. Best fun I've had in ages and hope to get into them again today. Cheers Stipo
  10. Awesome fish those snapper. Can't wait to feel that thump on the end of my line - one day. I'm out there this morning so you just never know. Hopefully you've let a few swim past on their way to Sydney. Cheers, Stipo
  11. Hi Brett, have a look at the post i put in the reports a few weeks ago: http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...p;hl=shady+camp If you scroll down a bit you will see my reply on costs etc. Good luck, Stipo
  12. One of the team is a logistics manager and did a great job and organising it all last year and again this year. This year we had 3 boats and 3 4wd crewcab utes on hire and arranged our own accomodation. Excluding airfares it worked out at about $1,400 each (7 people) for accom, boat hire, car hire, 8 cases of beer and fuel. We stayed in budget accom where possible. We found this the best way to go as it's cheap and you can go where and when you want. It does help to have someone with you who has lived in Dawin and knows the rivers as the organiser has. The organiser has found it a bit time consuming and painful so next year we are organising our own little groups, per boat. Cheers Stipo
  13. Greetings raiders, A bit apart from the usual reports here but thought you may be interested... 6 mates and I got back last night from our annual one week fishing trip to NT. Like last year, we spent a few days at Pt Stuart putting in at Shady Camp for trips on Sampan Creek and, our fave, upper Tommy Cut Creek via the shortcut. Then a short drive to Aura Resort to fish on the South Aligator for a few days. We didn't catch as many fish this year as we seem to had just missed the run-off and although the tides were timed well for us they were neap tides and so not enough movement (only 4 meters or so - still imressive amount of water). Last year we were there between cyclones and had too much water but more fish. We had a few no fish at all days this year but most days managed a couple between us. Biggest catch was 85cm with 16 fish landed in the week. My PB for the week was 75cm on a shitty little rod and reel from *****. I did manage to land the fish but we did have to chase it down with the boat. I did have around a 90cm fish on for ten minutes on it one stage until the line broke at the knot. The rod stood up to it but I just got a bit tide of being fearful of being undergunned all the time. I'll have to start putting away for a new rod and reel for next year. Somewhere where the wife doesn't look. (Some places do come to mind). We did watch someone pull in a 122cm fish that took the lure right next to one of our boats. Tommy Cut was voted by all as the best spot for fishing but the South Aligator was more agreeable for facilities and ease of getting onto and off the water. The ramp, or should I say pebble path, at Shady Camp is a real bitch at low tide estpecially for those who are bit lizard phobic. Thats crocks not flathead! There are some scary monsters up there. The short cut over to Tommy Cut and Tommy Cut itself is just awsome scenery. The corner of South Aligator and Uralangi Creek was like a car park some days. Well back to work. Can't wait until next year!!! Cheers, Stipo
  14. Good luck Jason. With planning like that, how can it fail. But, what about dinner? Make sure you let us know how you go! Cheers, Stipo
  15. Broken Bay / Hawkesbury on Sunday morning, about 5am. Not sure where. Depends on the wind.
