  1. Gday, Just wondering if anyone knew of any local places where you can buy generic anodized aluminium reel handles/knobs as seen on Saltiga Dogfights etc. Or if anyone had one that I could buy from them. Thanks, Blayne
  2. Thanks again guys, was a good workout climbing back and forth accross the rock ledge to try and stop the thing, wouldnt have landed it if it wasnt for the other 2 blokes fishing with me. Lets just say the leader was more frayed than an old pair of jeans upoin inspection, but luckily my mate had spare leader line so it was quickly re-tied and another yakka sent out in hopes for another one, but resulted in a 50+cm salmon instead of another king
  3. Thanks guys. Yeah was using a float so much fun, it ran me under every ledge/bomby in sight. Thanks to the guys fishing with me for helping me land it safely! Cant recall how long it took to land it, probably somewhere between 10-15 minutes after all the near bust off/run arounds it gave me. Very happy
  4. Gday, Landed my first ever king yesterday, measured at 76cm nice and healthy and it was landbased ! Caught on 10kg line and a live yakka. A mate also got a king a few cm's smaller and we got a nice aussie salmon as a by-catch. What a day!!!!
  5. Gday, Took the canoe out for a late arvo session with my mate last Monday looking for a few bass. Put the canoe in under the road bridge on the steepest muddy bank ive slid down in a while which was fun Paddled downstream from there and cast at every suspicious snag in the whole river for nothing! Did see a few rises but nothing substantial, bit dissapointed but was a nice arvo on the river in the canoe anyway. Cheers, Blayne
  6. Ive been getting into fishing with plastics a bit and ive found that for Flathead its best to cast wherever youre targetting (dropoff, weed bed edge etc...) let the plastic sink to the bottom free spooling, lock up the bail when its on the bottom and let it sit for about 10 seconds. give it two nudges then let it sink then wind up the slack then a slow rise and a nudge, let it sink then repeat. i also find that they will take it on the drop after a rise or nudge. for bream i use a bit more of a irregular retrieve, use using alot lighter jig head, cast to structure etc, let it drop for a metre or so and use a quick retrieve, walking the dog i think its called and pause the lue evey couple of metres, again the pause or drop is usually whjere the fish will smash the plastic. I think the retrieve technique you use is all about getting their attention and getting them curious and excited. bream tend to be a bit more aggressive but and like a faster retrieve with a few pauses and flatties will see the sand get stirred by the plastic each time it drops after a rise ir nudge and will just eat it because it has gotten their attention when the sand has been disturbed.
  7. Hi Roberta, Yeah the lake has always fished really well at dusk in summer when all the insects are out, the rainbows cruise around in close to the bank and slurp them off the surface, the dry fly action at this time is awesome if youre very quiet and sneak up on them and start casting without spooking them, unfortunately i tend to make a mess of casting with dry flies Ive never fished Jindabyne, ive heard some good reports though over the years. Might go for a drive this year and check it out if Eucumbene is quiet. Cant wait though im chomping at the bit to get down there allready!
  8. Yeah ill be sure to come back with a report on how the lake and fishing is going, maybe a few stories aswell As I said before Im going to try and get a bit more landbased fly/spinning in this time, hopefully ill have my hands on a new team daiwa 2-4kg spinning rod to get those smaller lures where i want em, robbie where do you usually stay down there? i may have seen you before as ive been theres every chance ive gotten over the last 5 years
  9. Gday everyone, I havent been on Fishraider much in a while but Im trying to pull my finger out a bit and get back into it all, ANYWAY, Im heading down to Lake Eucumbene with the family the day after boxing day for 2 weeks to try and get stuck into some trout. Were staying at Rainbow Pines caravan park as we always do right on the lake, so if anyone else is going down there let me know and we can go after some together. My PB trout so far is a 62cm (went 1.6kg) brown that i got trolling a tassie on lead line, but this time im gunna try and concentrate on fly/spinning landbased a bit more aswell as out trolling lead lines from the boat. Blayne
  10. PB Australian Bass @ 30cm on a spinnerbait, landbased in the rain aswell! PB Flathead @ 67cm on Gulp 3" Malibu Blue minnow and 2lb Vanish Flurocarbon landbased! PB Bream @ 31cm on Gulp 3" Smelt minnow and 2lb Vanish Flurocarbon landbased!
  11. Probably go for a spin for some bass around the weir landbased for something to do. Might take the canoe with a mate
  12. yeah im saying juvenile threadfin salmon aswell
  13. ive seen that one before somewhere, on fox i think, still makes my skin crawl every time
  14. Tony the 21st is a Saturday, is that the day you are free? Ill help in anyway I can if needed, just tell me what needs doing! cheers Blayne
  15. I am in for sure! That was my old stomping ground when I was a youngster during school holidays! The Entrance is definetly a good spot for all Raiders as the land based and boat fishing is great when the lake turns it on! Ive caught many a good whiting, flatty and bream in those waters from time to time. Also once hooked a Stingray from the sandflats near the bridge that scared the life out of me when it got in viewing distance, was about the size of a queen size bed! Thats was before it took most of my line before I could get my hands on a knife Should we make it a target species social or an anything goes event? A sunday would be good I think as MOST of us would be free? Here is a pic of the boatramp at The Entrance if anyone is unfamiliar with it. There is decent parking and cleaning facilities there but as with any popular location it does get packed at times! Cheers Blayne
