  1. A mate headed out wide from Botany on Wednesday for a troll, scored 2 blues 140kg and one at 170 kg, hope they stay around for the Hacking 100 Get out there with the 37 kg gear and some big skirts Cheers, Gareth
  2. Awesome as usual Yowie 👍
  3. Thought they were Watson's leaping bonito?
  4. Dont no much more detail other than a live bait was used, the rocks are at the western end of Jibbon beach, with the recent southerly the water temp is bringing some northern species in close, you never know in the Hacking! Cheers
  5. Nice work as usual mate, Hacking starting to fire up with that warm water 😎
  6. Just had this photo sent to me, caught last week off the rocks around from Bundeena, also a metre fish sighted this arvo off the jetty... Time to fish some livebaits after work tomorrow Cheers, Gareth
  7. Great report , Hacking been a bit quite down my end (Maianbar) as its copped an absolute flogging over xmas and new year , good to see the SW arm has something left Cheers
  8. Skipper weighed them 25 , 30 and 32 kg, and fortunately my boss owns the boat , wont be hitting the canyons in my kayak 😆😆😆 , cheers , Gareth
  9. Yes, all 3 on the old faithfull lumo sprocket in green, some reason they love green, we only used one rod as there were boats everywhere, a 90kg model was lost so make sure your using 30 wide reels 27kg, a big blue was hooked in 1500 fathoms but the boys dropped it, hope the longliners didnt smash the school last night , south of the Canyons, find the birds , tight lines all 😎, cheers all, G
  10. Lol mate, i move bags of concrete every day and there 20 kg , this was easy close to 2 ,we dont have scales so 30-35 kg would be very close,
  11. Headed to the peak for a jig but it was very quiet , changed plans and started to troll for Marlin ,only took 5 minutes and we hooked up to a small black but the hook didnt stick Reports came through on the radio that the yellowfin were going nuts at the Canyons...and there were birds and tuna just going berserk once we arrived, 3 fish all about 45kg in 30 minutes some fish getting airborne 😁 it was an amazing sight to see , After a quiet year today made up for it Cheers , Gareth
  12. Wow, another reason to sell the kayak, Awesome footage ,cheers
  13. Hi mate, the answer is easy!! when I lived in Bondi i fished McKenzies Point ,take a left out onto the rocks from the track that goes along to Tamaramma , head out on the rocky headland , you'll see holes drilled in the rocks for rod-holders, I fished with 13 foot beach rod, 4000 size reel with 20lb mono(I dont like braid on big beach gear) ,swivel then 1.5m 30lb leader, whole pillies either on a bobby cork rig, or running spoon/star sinker rig ,again with a whole pillchard on gangs. When using pillies on gang hooks , if the bait is rigged head first youll get tailor, i rig them tail first for the kings...... As with any open ocean spot you need to check conditions and swell, its an awesome spot with a small swell at first light Cheers
  14. Ribs, we were in 25 fathoms :), will try the jig next time, cheers
  15. And i think it was 2006 there were Dollies caught off the rocks @(Gunyah point) , a yellow fin landed off the spit @ Maianbar/Bonnivale, and one of the "old boys" here in Maianbar reckons theres a photo of a bull shark grabbing a small deer down near Audley, love the Hacking !
  16. Nice Jew mate, again good on you for helping out it was pretty nuts out there yesterday., Cheers Gaz
  17. Had a good day last Friday, live baits everywhere from Bundeena Jetty to Jibbon, we headed towards Stanwell ,just cruising, watching the sounder for some Kingy signs but with a rather sloppy swell bouncing back of the cliffs we decided to target snapper. We have a spot thats produced fish but nothing to brag about, in front of the ocean bridge a few bout a Km out, baits down and the 3 other lads on board all hooked up, 2 big fat pike and a small flattie, I like to hang back a bit , they all had 30 pound leaders with 2/3 droppers and a dirty big snapper lead.....I like my Freams 3000 on my bream rod.....one decent ball sinker running straight to a small circle hook, 10lb leader (mono), half a pillie, " you wont hold the bottom with that", all good I said smiling, (I don't want to be near the bottom) as there was a good 3 knot current, just enough weight to waft down i reckoned would be the go, didn't take long , felt some good weight , let the circle hook work its magic and boo-ya !!!! 65cm ,my new PB,then one of the lads changes down and bang !!!! 68cm! A few more keepers but just over legal and more big pike that the skipper wont keep....(the best Jew bait...IMO), headed back to the Hacking for a few cold ones at Jibbon, where we had a blast on Trevally up to 50cm, that swarmed all around the burley....easy pickings and good fun on light gear, It was a good Friday off with the boss and mates for our Xmas party, Tight lines and a good Chrissy and new year to all
  18. Heard today of some good action around Heatons, with a triple hookup , we are going for a run out there on Friday so hopefully they hang around. Cheers, Gaz
  19. Well done mate, was out there today glassy conditions boated a few at the Sydney FAD but the biggest went 30cm lol,, Cheers,Gaz
  20. Hi mate, Jibbon Bombie only a 100m or so out to the right of Jibbon point, and if you turn left head towards the point, Osborn Shoal and the Merries reef await..... be careful of the swell's there mate and be sure to check charts, also lookout on Saturday and Sunday mornings as there will be up to 60 big boats flying out of the Hacking for the game comp that is on this weekend. Good fishy water out there mate, but be safe Cheers
  21. Hi mate, just thought I'd add to al the good tips previous, I spent a lot of time throwing lures around for Barra in the NT and always tied the "lefty's loop" and never once lost the lure due to it working it's way off, mind you the lightest leaders we used were 30lb, as mentioned using 10lb I'd go the swivel/clip , but try some nice supple 20lb mono , longer leader ,you'll cast further and land a bigger fish when it comes along.
  22. Well done on the beakies mate, we spent all Saturday pulling lovely looking spreads around some stunning looking water but didnt turn a reel. The Sydney Game comp. was on and from the skeds we heard of a 350 kg plus blue captured , 200kg blue captured, and a estimated 30kg dollie taken, also a couple of wahoo further North. Reports today the big blue was in 1000fa East of the Hacking. We didn't even find bait so you did well, Cheers
  23. Fantastic news guys :), as mentioned, the amount of fish that myself and mates have caught from reports when fish are on, spots we have fished that are other fisho's GPS marks that have been shared, to tips on rigs, gear, etc etc etc is what makes this site unique and a site I am proud to be a member of , the least we could do is to contribute something back to the people that provide this service for us. Gareth
  24. Yep the Hacking really can fire when we get these big lows off the coast, swell out the front when we were out was not to bad but I wouldn't attempt it today even in the 35...but im seriously thinking of getting into the bay surf on a SUP!!! ,the fish love the rich water inside mixed with the fresh coming down,it seems from about SW arm entrance to Jibbon is the spot to work , we like to run small skirts find the fish then you can change to plastics or hardbodies, there are some big fish amongst those schools busting up!! Cheers
  25. Yes mate, the rock platform next to the jetty facing North is a great land-based spot, I like to fish it when the seas are heavy , theres a small reef to the right and good size tailor are there , fishing the bottom produces nice flatties and if you work the area on the other side facing Bundeena beach there are good squid.obviously you cant fish off the Jetty when the ferry is running but the first spot is not on the jetty, today would be a good day as there are so many tailor and Bonito in that area now, Cheers
