hey raiders, Headed out yesterday, targeting jewfish on lure on a mate's boat using micro jigs. After sounding out some areas, we found our desired jewie hole. With hope of catching a few mulloway, we persisted through the first hour, only managing small by-catch including flathead and snapper. Soon after, i hooked up to an almighty weight. The line buzzing off my lightweight jew outfit with 12pd leader, i clarified it was a jew due to its typical head shakes and i knew I was in for a long fight. 15 minutes later, i got the jew off the bottom and began to see colour. As it surfaced, it was netted... Finally, I had landed my long desired first jew ON LURE! It measured 81cm and was happily released

In the holidays, I was luckily enough to head down to Tasmania for a fishing trip. We covered both offshore and river fishing during our time there. Firstly, we were located at St. Helens, where we went out from the coast 3-4km on a Charter Boat. Here we caught a wide variety of fish but there were some stand outs. We started it off with some bottom bashing, catching the species of Morwong, Barracuda a Gummi Shark and two Squid. After we caught a Barracudda, we used its head, in the hope of a Mako hookup... but nothing happened. A few PB's were made, including 52cm Morwong and 50cm squid in total length. After this, the fun started to begin, with every fisherman's dream sight coming true. In the distance, I spotted a huge bust up of salmon working the surface. Straight away, we rigged up the skirts and trawled over them. There was a huge climax, everyone waiting for the reel to come to life. And suddenly, Dssssssssszzzzzzzzzzzzz! I hooked up and it was fighting hard, stripping line off the reel with ease. It was a exhilarating fight, and as it surfaced, the first-mate, ever-ready, pulled the Salmon into the boat in one smooth motion. Mission accomplished! First Salmon, 55cm! We kept repeating the trawl and managed to get 4 in the boat out of 5 hookups. (50-55cm) Soon after, the fun was interrupted by a seal which absolutely slaughtered up to half of the Salmon! We were very unlucky, but happy to catch a few! The second part of our Fishing Trip in Tassie was at the Great Lakes, where we were on the hunt for some trout. The first day, we got straight into the action, catching two healthy brown trout on soft-plastics at Arthur's Lake. The biggest was 42cm and the other was around 20cm. On our last day of our trip, we went for a fish at Brumby's Creek. Here there wasn't much action but as soon as we were about to head off back home, we witnessed a huge jump. We made out that it was a brown trout, estimating around mid 80's. We were persistent, imagining hooking up to the monster brown trout. In the next five minutes, we saw it jump again and immediately, my Grandpa placed a live worm into the perfect position. There were bites immediately and they were big! He knew that it was big and he didn't want to stuff up this fish. Still nibbling... still nibbling, AND SMACK! My grandpa set the hook and the fish was on. As the fight progressed, it finally surfaced and we experienced a beautiful trout appear. My brother (fishhunter123) went in the water to increase the chances of landing it. He grasped it and brought it onto land. It was a huge brown trout, 76cm! We released it and it was a great way to conclude our time at Tasmania. I strongly recommend it to keen anglers who like variation in their fishing!
