    Winch issues

There is a place in Nth Parramatta where you can buy just about anything like that. As Taree terror says, they are called Roll pins. PM me if you like & I will give you the details. I can assure you that you would be wasting your time going to the "big Hardware" stores - been there done that!
  2. Thanks for that - didnt help me last night - there was no one listiing!
  3. We moved a couple of times & even drifted down to the front of JB, but when the fog started to come down, I figured its was time to start heading back as I didnt fancy finding my way down the creek by brail !! - Done that too many times before & it's very slow! As it turned out, we were not quick enough & had to take a bearing off the chart to get us to cottage point. From there to Watatah Bay it was patchy & we decided that as Waratah is only a 20 minute crawl down the edge of the creek in a pea souper, from the ramp, we thought we should persist. Whilst Waratah was lit up like crown casino, we didnt win there either - so back home empty handed AGAIN!! bugger. Came across an unfortunate bloke with a flat tyre on his trailer - we couldnt help him (I was also not smart enought to have my spare tyre with me!) - bit of a bummer at 3.00am in the morning - he apparently caught nothing for his trouble either - hope he got it sorted.
  4. So here we are sitting in the cold - no raiders on the radio and no fish! I can't believe people have been catching them! JB is a parking lot so is waratah. Were have they gone? The eternal fishing question arises - to move or to persist?
  5. As per the description, can anyone remind me? I searched but obviously not using the right key words! thanks
  6. Keegz, I have tried to pump nippers in these little bays with limited success. they are there, but often they are very small & you dont get much of a return for your effort. You can get poddy's in any of these bays, but i find that the little inlet next to the ramp is a good place for a poddy trap, or even catching them with a light line & a small dough bait. good luck
  7. Stanfo, do you have a tilt limit switch on your motor? I recently had a similar problem where my motor would trim down but not up. thanks to Craig at Huett marine ( who diagnosed the problem over the phone ) the issue was identified as a faulty tilt limit switch. Craig fixed the problem by bridging out the limit switch (as I do not need it on my boat), in about 5 minutes. Big thanks to Craig, looking after us as usual!. You may have a different issue - but it might be worth looking at.
  8. G'day folks. Before we start, just like to say that I will be ringing Huey on Monday morning (I've PM'd him as well)............ I have a 2000 model Ocean pro V4 90 hp that has decided to play up - now I should have anticipated this - because I have a mate comming over from Adelaide this week & we had planned a Friday Fishing trip & Murphy has decided to help me prepare the boat! The issue is that I can trim the motor down with no problems but when I go to trim it up, it only does it when it feels like it! if i hold the trim button in, the motor will eventually trim up. Now, it does not seem to make any difference if I use the trim button on the throttle control, or if I use the button on the side of the motor - the same result with either. I have cleaned the contacts on the relays & I have even swapped the relays to see if that made any difference - it didnt. Because it works intermittantly, it seems like a dirty contact of some sort. Any ideas?
  9. It's the gizmo that drives the Delorean (spelling?) in the movie "back to the future" Thanks - now I feel realy old
  10. Timmy, I carry on my boat a smallish lunch box size container with: - phillips head screw driver flat head screw driver plug spanner shifting spanner long nose pliers multi grips small vice grips small sheet of wet & dry paper (800 for cleaning coked up plugs) assorted cable ties electrical tape self amalgamating tape spare plugs fuel hose joiner hose clamps fuses Separate to my tool kit, i carry:- dry rag can of "start ya bastard" spare bung spare primer bulb spare oil spare fuel filter Other bits specific to my boat/ needs All of these are ideas that you can use to put together your own kit. Probably the best thing to do is to go and sit in your boat look around at how you are normally set up - then ask youself the question "what would I do if 'this' happened"? From there, you can decide if you need to carry a particular item or tool, and whether or not you already have something on board that will suffice, before adding another tool or thing to your kit. You need to decide if you have the ability to "fix" any given problem before you carry something for it. i.e - there is no point carrying a spare flux capacitor if you dont know how to wire it in and even if you do know how to wire it in, do you know how to set up the space/ time parrameters! & can you install it & set it up in a rocking boat/ in the rain/ in the dark etc - some times its better just to be able to get to safety And dont forget that space and weight are a premium on a small craft & things like flux capacitors take up a whole lot of room! (dont know what they weigh!) I hope this helps (Oh & I dont think it'll be easy to find a spare flux capacitor!)
  11. Yarrone, I had the same issueabout 2 years ago. It looks from the photo's that you have the old style Helm. I can tell you from experience that if it is the old style, you can't get them anymore, nor the parts. - I searched high & low. (even for old stock) Best bet is to replace the whole thing with the current model.
  12. Some Good Photo's there ! looks very ugly! You will need to submit your 4th picture to the papers though - get a paid interview about your experience with the extra terestials whilst fishing off the break wall !!! Thats clearly a UFO in the centre of the sky! ....... some one will believe it anyway ! maybe it's chopper 76?
  13. nic, you may have a short in the coaxial cable - check your connections, making sure the outer layer of copper is not touching the inner copper core. Actually, I would double check all the electrical connections before you do anything else. is it also possible that you happened to have the unit on when there is no radio traffic to hear anyway ? - just a thought. - Maybe find out when the weather skeds are & turn it on then (coastal patrol will be able to tell you when that is) good luck.
  14. Belated report folks, dates back to weekend before last. Went fishing with a couple of mates - out from Berrowra before Sparrow's, with view to maybe picking up a Jewie before the sun came up. Once on the water, decided to head down to the main River & poke around the vines for some bream instead. No luck on the Bream only plenty of Catties ! Moved on from the vines & tried drifting instead. By now the sun was up, last of the run out & the breeze had sprung up making the drift slightly annoying. After about 20 minutes my rod takes a hit & I call it for a soapie Jew, as it puts up reasonable fight on light gear. After seeing the silver colour below the boat, I had believed my suspicions were confrmed, A few cranks of the reel later & I am looking at a Whiting, the size of which I have not seen since I was a kid! The whiting was 40 cm & solid as a "brick whatsaname" The only other catches for the day were a small flatty & Blue Swimmer crab - My mates by the way, restricted them selves to keeping the catfish away from my baits!
  15. Hi All, It's been a while since my last post. Have just arrived back from Castaway island in Fiji - a great place if you get the chance to to go. I was desperate for some Fijian sunsets over the ocean, but it was not to be - afternoon weather conspired against me. I had to settle for sunrises over the island instead, Dissapointing huh ! Anyways, Enjoy - I certainly did!

    Painting

Dennis, I cant help you with the type of paint, but had the same experience with blistering when using etch prime. In the end, I found that it was easier just to remove all the old paint & start from the beginning! I ended up with a better job as a result. maybe the paint manufacturer can help? I have read somewhere of people using some sort of 'Hi fill' primer - might be worth investigating. Good luck.
  17. Hi Darkhorse, I think that it really comes down to what you want. I would think that a combo would be terrific as you can mark all those secret spot 'x's, wrecks & reefs, without having to re-sound them all the time. Having been caught out in Cowan creek more than once in really heavy fog, I have no doubt that the GPS matched with the sounder would make navigation under those conditions, much easier. I say, if you can afford it, go for it! I am in a similar situation to you, I would love to have a combo setup but find it difficult to justify the expense. Perhaps we both should ask Santa for one? might have left it a bit late though. Merry Christmas
  18. Velcro ! if you can, screw some velcro strips to the floor in strategic locations & glue some to the underside of the carpet. A word of warning though, I am yet to find a suitable durable adhesive for this job. the alternative would be to sew the velcro to the underside of the carpet. good luck with whatever you work out. Merry Christmas
  19. Well, thanks for all your replies. to be clear, I had kept the crabs on ice from the time caught up to the point of cooking. I was in a bind though, & cooked them all last night. While I note the coments about 'wet cardboard' & 'consistancy of wet tissue' I froze them anyway - thought I prob. had to, to have any chance of keeping them! I will try them & let you all know if I have had any success. I'll give one a try, & if the meat is icky, I might try making a crab bisque ! Dont want to waste them ! Wish me luck Ho Ho Ho
  20. Hi folks, Caught some blue swimmers today & want to keep them for Christmas lunch. They are in the fridge at the moment & have prettymuch been on ice since caught. Question is do I cook them & freeze them straight away or cook them & refrigerate? Any one know? thanks
  21. G,day all, a brief report due to time constraints. I have been having a bit of success lately fishing for flatties. Went out early with the kids from Berrowra ramp, hit the water at about 6.30am Caught heaps of Just legal flatties (any thing under 40cm went back), 4 small school jewies & 2 smallish flounder - had a busy morning! Kids faired well with My son catching a 43 cm Flatty but outdone by his little sister with a 48 cm model that fought realy well. Had the crab traps out as will & came home with 8 blue swimmers - not bad for a mornings work. By the way does anyone know if the crabs can be frozen to last for Christmas Lunch ?? One of the highlights of the day was when cleaning our fish, another fellow came in with 3 flatties, put them on the cleaning table as we were finishing up, he went off to get his knife, I put our fish in the bucket only to look up to see a pelican jump? on the table & pinch the poor guys biggest fish !!!! Merry Christmas to all & tight lines
  22. Pel, Here are the Photo's. I did not have anyone to stand on the Guard for me though! There does not appear to be a manufacturers plate. Thanks all for the responses here's some answers to the queries raised Whilst I've owned it, the boat has never been used to carry holiday gear (quasi Box traler) Leaves do not appear broken but definately look shagged out! Moving the axle will not resolve the problem, only move it & the boat is already pretty well balanced for towing. I definately have a 50mm ball - no movement in the coupling. Thanks
  23. G'day all, I'm looking for some guidance regarding trailer maintenance. I have a 5mtr quintrex cruiseabout sitting on a trailer of unknown origin. It has started riding very hard on the road & bangs & clangs over the smallest of pot holes & road imperfections. Looking at it closely, I have noted that there is only a gap of about 4mm between the axle & centre crossmember of the trailer frame. the axle has been hitting the crossmember, evidenced by clear marks. This means that there is insufficient resilience in the leaf springs and that the suspension is no longer doing what it is supposed to. The existing Springs have 6 leaves. Question is what sort of springs do I use. ? I am sure that there would be an appropriate rating based on the weight of the boat, but dont really know where to start looking. (any one know what the likely weight is ?) Also, how does one determine what sort of bearings are the right replacement ones? Over to the collective brains trust. thanks
